This album is an expression of DelaDap’s deep-felt thankfulness to their fantastic audience in Vive Latino! Festival in Mexico, whose amazing support for this concert made the trip into the definitive highlight of the band’s nine-year history. Which makes Made in Mexico even more enjoyable elsewhere… although a Mexico tour with this album in your luggage is certainly not a bad idea!

Going back to the creative roots of the Made in Mexico album, DelaDap, founded 2004 in Vienna, along with mastermind Stani Vana, who also functions as the producer, DJ, and occasional vocalist of the band, have always welcomed artistic challenges with open arms. However, when two musicians recently cancelled practically moments before the departure date for a concert at the Vive Latino! Festival in Mexico City causing the line-up to unexpectedly crumble, even Vana had to take a deep breath. And then – as always – he picked himself up and got right back to work…

He created totally new versions of the ten best and most-loved DelaDap tracks, composing an amazing set of their old and new hits, including Straight Ahead/Samo Pravo, Crazy Swing, and Don’t Turn Around. Add to this the new single I Do, an early premonition of the upcoming studio album “Love & Do”, and you have a delicious cherry on the cake of the fine musical medley aptly titled All the Best of the Old Stuff.

When singer Tania Saedi showed up on the scene, absorbing the songs in record time, it became clear that the continually changing creative puzzle that is DelaDap was once again complete. The rest is history.

DelaDap’s concert in Mexico (which was Saedi’s first ever performance with the band!) was an absolute triumph. Audience and band were totally on the same wavelength, playfully celebrating life, music, and dance.

Overwhelmed by this stellar experience, it quickly became clear that something more had to happen with these fantastic new song versions, even more so because Tania Saedi was now a permanent member of the band. The Made in Mexico album took form, a collection of familiar DelaDap tracks dressed in new acoustic garb and with the new voice of the band. It may be true that these numbers were originally produced for Mexico, but their final shape took form in Mexico along with the band that played them – truly made in Mexico!

“Cream Soda”, the last single of their new 12-single album of “Future Swingers” DELADAP will be released on August 27th in time for a hot music fall - and with co-author Wolfgang Lohr DELADAP mastermind Stani Vana has probably secured the currently best swing producer of Europe, who has already been responsible for numerous successful remixes of DELADAP hits (such as "Music Has The Power", "Make Swing Great Again", etc.). 

Melinda Stoika's vocals, alternating between fragility and power girl, gives this song a unique touch. DELADAP's history is one of constant change, progression and the exciting search for their own unique version of pop. “I take one step forward and one step back/dance like crazy and I'm right on track/I'm a rocket on a mission, got no simple plan/just one big vision, people clap your hands,” they sing in “Merry Go Round.” Just like all pop music—indeed, all art—DELADAP want to bring people together on equal footing, get them to connect with each other and not necessarily tear down the artificial walls that separate us on various levels, but instead dance all over them. "how can gypsy music and modern club-sounds 
go together without losing their essence?" 
Stani Vana, Vienna based producer, dj and musician answered this question with !Dela Dap ´s first album “Cigani Rusza + Angelo“, released in 2004. To get there he undertook a two year 
plus musical journey ac companied by lots of actual travelling to capture the magic of his childhood. 
Vana was then deeply touched by the wor ld and music of three Roma families that lived in the neighborhood.
A rich music full of melancholy, pain, beauty and s ensuality. Music that very likely always has been present during 
Vana´s own musical trip, that found him heavily involved i n the electronical sounds and beats that provided 
the soundtrack for a club-scene that imagined the dancefloor as some sort of urban utopia, where daily life 
and the distance between people were transcended. The desire to bring these wo 
rlds together laid the roots for the “Urban Gypsy Sound“, that !Dela Dap defined. The traditional Roma music and it´s i 
nstruments meet beats and electronic sounds, styles of music finally blended without losing their own identity and dig nity. 
Melinda Stoika added her fresh and unconventional phrasing of the lyrics, all sung in Romanese, reflecting her life´s 
 experience as a Romni living in the urban centers of Budapest and Vienna. Tibor Barkoczy (piano, arrangements) kicked o 
pen the door to jazz and Pista brought in his Cimbal and viennese charms. The journey had reached it´s end! “Angelo“, “A 
maro Shavo“ or the masterly exercise in downtempo, “Me Kamav Tu“ got popular in the european club scene, starting in 
 Hungary. Gypsy music was touched by remix- and club-culture for the first time which is a perfect reason to include t 
he remixes of “Amaro Shavo“ by N.O.H.A. and “Angelo“ by Karuan in this new edition of “Cigani Rusza + Angelo“.  The tre 
asure that this music and Roma culture in general are began finding a new audience through !Dela Dap´s visionary and ori 
ginal sound.

I Know What You Want

Hot on the heels of Deladap`s well recieved maxi-single „Gipsy Kicks“ comes „I Know What You Want“, the  eagerly awaited fourth album by this Viennese sound-lab (and impressive live-force!) envisioned and put on the tracks by Dj and Producer Stani Vana back in 2004. 

Deladap was never – and will never be! – one of those acts that once establishes a successful musical formula and then runs with it, in the process endlessly repeating themselves. From the beginning of their quest to mix Roma music and contemporary club- and electronic sounds their music always and steadily evolved. Along the way Deladap were always broadening their artistic grip on both – traditional elements from a wide range of backgrounds as well as on the freshest exploits of urban-music and dance-culture. 

With Deladap there is always fresh-eared musical curiosity and constant exchange. Between the frenzy and the heated dance-fests of their live-work, where they celebrate the moment with their audience (ignoring any given notions or definitions of „liveband vs dj-set“ …) and the long hours in the studio, where in extensive sessions top-notch recording technology is used to get closer to the soul of the Deladap sound. Where inspired performances coming from a wide pool of gifted musicians drifting trough or working in the city of vienna might shine a light on yet another exciting musical path waiting for Vana & Co to explore ...

This spirit and approach led to „I Know What You Want“ with its 13 tracks, easily the most fully realised work by Deladap so far. Incorporating the three tracks from „Gipsy Kicks“ this album has travelled even further, the musical logic (and magic!) that informs these songs comes in yet again more irrestistible forms. One key element being the astonishing and sensual vocal performances by Melinda Stoika, her singing and lyrics rich with the self-confidence and complex sensibilies of a woman with Roma background living and ejoying her life as a modern day world-citizen in the heart of ever-changing europe.

One of the strongest songs here might be called „Crazy Swing“ – and yes, it swings like crazy! – but what Deladap deliver with this album is essentially pop-music in their very own musical dialect that effortlessly – when listening or dancing to it! – transcends the definitions of „worldmusic“, „dance-track“ or „pop-song“ without missing a beat a or a vocal-line to sing along to. 

„I Know What You Want“ is a bold statement to make, but, hey!, Deladap might just know what you – or „we“ for that matter – want. An exciting soundtrack to dance to, an almost „immoral“ activity in these days and ages, as it very likely won´t get you any material reward, just that vague, joyful feeling of simply being alive. Songs that catch your ear as they let you know it´s perfectly okay to „waste“ your time, to take and ride their sound-ways and –waves as you dig deep into your own emotions, let them for once rule your every step or „mis-step“, without ever fearing the consequences or the lack of material gain such „crazy“ behaviour will bring. A wonderful and liberating sound drowning out the every-day-hum and making most of our daily routines and worries seem as unreal as they actually are.

„I Know What You Want“ is that kind of album and it has plenty of such songs.

This new version of the song comes in a slightly faster pace (helped by the excitement of the past week …) and only takes 2 minutes and 57 seconds to highlight all the qualities of !Dela Dap´s music. It´s catchy, it makes you wanna dance and every syllable of Melinda Stoika´s vocals is full of that special !Dela Dap-magic that immediately connects with the listener. „And when your mind is losing control / don´t worry ´bout just use your soul / jump on the ride / jump on the ride“.
