"When conceptual art really kicked off in the mid twentieth century, many of its protagonists were so determined to purge art of its decorative frilliness, they turned more and more towards words, or rather, lack thereof. The likes of Duchamp, Dalí, Breton, Reinhardt, each uncensored by the rational mind, made moves towards the absurd and the sublime, with varying degrees of success and failure alike.

In this piece, what one finds is the artist attempting to convey a number of things, and asking a number of questions of us as the listener; what do we seek in such art? In which ways are to be intellectually, spiritually and sexually fulfilled by its visceral and confrontational abandonment of conventions? Is it incongruous juxtaposition? Does it lead us as the audience to question ourselves as living breathing beings, our hopes and truths, and our benign tastes so often dictating our choice and free will?

The piece is a natural extension of surrealism, dadaism and indulgence, themselves often strange bedfellows. Elaborate and provocative in its execution, displaying a signature of insatiable curiosity, and leaving no stone unturned, it portrays the artist as a provocateur of postmodernism, mysticism, and decadence. It transgresses the elusive world of the subconscious more imaginatively than previous offerings. It's also a piece which stitches together the scraps of art and culture, politics and poetry, and science and exotica that could often be found in the Southport of the late-noughties and beyond. An extremely clever conceit; there could be any manner of things concealed within this record, but we as the listener will never know because as as soon as one opens the record, the art is destroyed, the value is lost, so we will never, ever find out.

One's most overriding sensation is that the piece feels like a shit-filled hand grenade which the artist has flung into our collective psyche. It is quite simply, a joke, and a very poor joke."

‘Keepsake’ introduces listeners to the record with an energetic blend of grungy, ethereal elements, showcasing Henry’s artistic flair. The track seamlessly intertwines dreamlike atmospheres with raw textures, contrasting these layers with intense drum-driven drama, tying it all together to offer a preview of the musical landscape set to define the entirety of the record.

The enigmatic soundscape of ‘Cafe Boogaloo’ carefully warps an unmistakable garage arrangement into an eclectic and hypnotic journey. As the track progresses it embraces the unconventional, introducing a disjointed groove that gradually sinks you further and further into it, defying categorisation and serving as a testament to the creative possibilities within electronic music.

‘Get The Hell Out’ is a formidable force of relentless rhythms that disregard all agreements. The integration of intense drum work with melancholic undertones opposes listeners as it bulldozes along, emerging not only as a force that invites exploration, but also as one that commands your attention - capturing the essence of its title.

In its final notes, ‘Cafe Stalker’ prioritises sound design over club functionality in order to instill a feeling of unease and suspense, crafting an atmosphere of palpable tension and lurking dread. The deliberate pace of the track trudges along, deftly building tension until it inevitably brings the record to a grinding halt.

The digital bonus offers a deconstructed version of ‘Get The Hell Out’ through a 2-step rendition, reminiscent of the iconic days of Big Apple Records and its influence. This interpretation remains faithful to the original composition’s substance and rhythm, merging the nostalgia of early rave culture with Henry’s modern-day touch.

5th Generation Angel is a sonic experience oscillating between existing in the mind and in the body. This EP was crafted during an era where I surrendering to myself. I previously have struggled with existing solely in my head. During the period these songs were created, I regularly tried to suspend the mind to sink into movement and pleasure habitually. Many of these pieces are capsules of of either side of this polarity or combine moments of both, extreme feeling and thinking. I created this oeuvre, in pursuit of transformation specifically in regards to healing my relationship with myself. I found wholeness in my soul through creating vs. the inclination towards perfectionism. During the stage of production I reflected on the beauty, pain and my ability to heal past the limitations I have bestowed on myself. This record is the ascension into a realm of actualization and application.  

Sonically, 5th Generation Angel holds the theme of duality, juxtaposing density and illumination, chaos and grounding, and the pain-pleasure principle. Maude conveys these polarities throughout the record with heavy bass lines, shimmering bell accompaniment, otherworldly textures, whispered vocals and apexed synth leads. Each song carries you to the next with moment of intensity and/or release. 5th Generation Angel is metaphysical, cinematic, and warehouse worthy all at once.

Bait's 4th split EP is a crispy duo of tracks: while Andrae's 'Lasca' is a cold and elegant interpretation of technoïd- dubstep, breathing minimal darkness whilst catching a racing pace after the second drop, Chewlie's 'Denial' leans more towards 'original' dubstep, almost flirting with deconstructed club with it's wonky and sort of warm character. 

Chewlie, a breakthrough artist from Switzerland adept at sculpting tense, sharply defined atmospheres with eerie amounts of space and dreadful amounts of bass. A deep dive exploring nervous hallways of dislocated rhythm with a UK soundsystem attitude and a subtle but striking approach to sound design.  Understated moodiness is the key here, resulting in powerful heads-down immersion heaters with stand-out moments to make the floor fall in line amidst meditative, patient pauses in between. In the field of leftfield dubwise club music, Chewlie’s voice strikes out with purpose and poise, another natural misfit in the many-sided bassweight landscape.

Chewlie - Denial

DjBadshape met Sinistarr at the 2023 Movement Festival, where he was playing on the Detroit stage, and it was then that she became fascinated by Torpor, originally released on his Everything On Time EP in 2019. Her 170 bpm remix adds a new dimension to the original, replacing the melancholy synths with an autonomic drum and bass vision.

KTSNS releases music with the intent of providing broad and radical DJ tools.

The first release series focuses on tempo, exploring how different sensations of time can be created with the same BPM. All the tracks in each release have the same BPM, as indicated in the title. We’re proud to present 140 EP by Dayzero for our fourth release.

Dayzero is full of ideas, flexible, and has surprised us many times with the speed at which he flows from input to output. Starting with “Daruma E.P.” from Livity Sound, it was clear that he had begun to push the originality that he had maintained in the authentic dubstep sound since the beginning of his career to a further phase. Since then, we have been communicating frequently, spending many nights together, and he quickly turned each of them into tracks and presented them to us again and again. Finally, this EP was born in response to our request to see a new side of Dayzero.

He pours a new unified beat pattern into the BPM that he is most familiar with, and re-deconstructs the techniques of sound design, bass line, dubwise, etc. that he developed during his experience producing dubstep/bass music, which is the starting point of his career, and reconstructs them into four amazing DJ tools that will shake your brain and body.

“Perc” features uniquely spatially processed percussion that attacks you from all directions, while “Synth” features a looped synth sound that continues to change throughout the tune, inviting you to the instinctive pleasure of dance music. “Texture” highlights Dayzero's sound design by assigning unusual texture sounds to a simple composition. And “Bass” approaches bass line formation with a different impression from other songs by adding variation through bass layering.
