For those who were asking what the mysterious mix that was put on after the DJs stopped playing outside at the Life and Death party in Art Basel, here it is. A mellow trip prepared by Greg from Thugfucker and presented here as a little thank you from all of us at Life and Death. 

It's been an amazing year and we're so very appreciative of all the support we've gotten as we've adventured forwards on this incredible musical trip together. We've got lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead (and beyond!) and we look forward to continuing together on this ride wherever it takes us.

Thanks for being there with us along the way. It really does mean the world to us...

Dürerstuben - boom, back Liveset IV

Hamburg homies Jakobus Siebels and Mense Reents make up the Die Vogel duo. The duo make some of the finest deep tech and phsyc house and have released together almost exclusively on Dj Koze and Marcus Fink’s Pampa records. Their name simply translates as ’the birds’ and the super talent multi-instrumentalists put on one hell of a live show, flying between the trombone, trumpet, flute and clarinet all glued together seamlessly with percussion and techno for good measure (obviously). 

Ahead of their upcoming set at The Social festival, the pair have dug deep for this mix. Putting their heads together and providing a selection that takes you on a  journey through house, techno, psychedelic rock and beyond. Press play!

“Instead of making a classic DJ mix, we rather combined acapellas and pieces that are close to our hearts with sketches of our own music. At our first meeting we listened to some vinyl records and some sessions that we had made a while ago with Alphorns and Steel Drums. We chose about 30 pieces and digitized some of them. Using different genres in the mix wasn't an issue. Mense collected all the material and assembled it on the computer. Part of the podcast are also two songs by some other bands of ours (NRFB and JaKönigJa).
To us, the mix has a nocturnal - urban and even a somewhat cinematic mood. So put on your headphones and leave the house! There's a lot to discover. Enjoy!”

Next month we're opening a store in Cologne, which just so happens to be the hometown of our guest DJ, Marcus Worgull (@marcusworgull). It's safe to say that Worgull's work is very diverse: it ranges from the deepest house-cuts on Berlin's famous Innervisions label, to synth-heavy ambient productions as 'Vermont' (Marcus Worgull + Motor City Drum Ensemble). Oh, and let's not forget his brilliant remixes for The XX and Fink.

This guest mix features a selection of beautiful, melancholic tracks, put together in a story telling way.

Digging up rare vinyl grooves in the city of gold, DJ Okapi brings a forgotten era of South African pop music back to life...

Specifically the synth-fuelled 80s disco-funk known as bubblegum and the unique house-inspired kwaito grooves of the early 90s, connecting them to their contemporaries in other parts of Africa and its diaspora.

Label boss Aleksandir makes his Artesian Sounds debut with ARS003. As he sheds the naivety of his previous works, we're met with some of his most high-bpm, club-friendly tracks to date. ARS003 is a bold evolution of Aleksandir's sound, incorporating a range of new influences, from tinges of electro, to rolling basslines, breaks and his first foray into original vocals. On this occasion, Aleksandir threw us this 55mn mix that will take you into his world.
