Super rare afro disco boogie edits from Guynamite and Nik Mukatsuku (aka Guynamukat)! The production duo have been banging out remixes and edits for the past couple years and slip us 3 absolute scorchers that shine amongst the current trend of rare African records being repressed (see all the excellent Soundway releases and recent Lagos Disco comp). But unlike a lot of the stuff being repressed, these aren't just tracks edited for rarities sake, these joints are heaters that'll really work the dancefloor! Check the burning grooves of "Looking After Number 1(1)" Revenge Of Mark Eyo Edit, so hot! I was pretty much sold on that track alone, but the heat continues on "Sexy Sexy Lady(2)" with its smooth grown and sexy vibe, and the funky "Enjoy Your Life(3)." 3 for 3 right here, recommended.

We recon it’s time for a full Junktion EP on Outplay! You can say Wide Awake is an appropriate title after a wonderful 2015 with a string of EP’s on Sleazy Beats, Razor-n-Tape and Rose Records. This four tracker explores the sound he’s been developing over the years and even touches a newer side. The EP opens with the title track “Wide Awake” and embodies the signature Junktion sound with a summery balearic touch. “What We Are” is a faster synth laden affair coupled with his usual sample action. “Sunny Side Up” is what the title says it is, a sunny disco track driven by a groovy bassline and a funky rhythm guitar. The EP closes down with “Don’t Mess Up” for a more contemplative jazzy track with some smooth sampling and afro touches.

Title track from Kiko Navarro’s latest album, released in March 2017 on BBE, ‘Everything Happens For A Reason’ is presented here in its original 7 minute incarnation, alongside remixes from Kyodai and Myles Bigelow, plus an edit by Vince Watson.

Moved by Steve Reich’s ‘Music For 18 Musicians’, which he caught live at a concert in SIngapore, then impressed by Kerri Chandler’s ingenious re-imagining of ‘6 Pianos’ (also by Steve Reich), Kiko Navarro was inspired to utilise the piano’s percussive attack as the main rhythmic device in a House track. Calling on his regular collaborator (and piano teacher) Isis “Apache” Montero, Kiko explained his concept and the two gradually built up a compelling, syncopated and potent groove. Taking in tribal, orchestral, latin, afro and tech sounds, ‘Everything Happens For A Reason’ is a moving and poignant piece of House music, topped off with spine-tingling vocals added by Isis “Apache” Montero which call to mind the lyric-free, syllabic singing style made famous by Karl Jenkins’ ’Adiemus’ records.

German duo Kyodai have been making major waves on the global House scene for some years now with releases on Freerange, Compost, Pokerflat and Mad Mats’ high flying Local Talk label. Their remix transitions from tough percussion groove into anthemic piano house workout and back again, dispensing a carefully metered dose of dance-floor magic. Multitalented Canadian musician and DJ Myles Bigelow delivers an uplifting version, adding eastern percussion and vivid synth lines. Vince Watson’s subtle edit introduces a smooth melodic techno atmosphere, extending the arrangement out into a vast sonic expanse. An instrumental version is included in the package for the purists, as is a ‘Beatless’ mix, which makes for an intriguing DJ tool, or simply a powerful sunset soundtrack for those chilled terrace sessions.

The boys from Hageby are back on RNT Reserve with an EP packed full of lush deepness and dancefloor magic. From the cheeky bounce of Found Love, the slow burn of Hageby In Your Eyes, and the boogie-inflected Ain't The Way, this record is right for just about any mood. 

And that's saying nothing of the standout gem of the 12' - the official D2 remix of the Byron Stingily classic Get Up (Everybody), which juxtaposes the ubiquitous soaring vocal over a thunderous low end pulse, making for a monster latenite face-melter of a track!

Dropping next week on ace German label @Footjob @hans-nieswandt & @eric-d-clark's 'Protest Disco EP' is a breath of fresh air as a socially conscious release which stands out beautifully amongst all the throwaway music which appears and then disappears on virtually the same day.
