Dan Shake is probably best known more recently for being the first non-Detroit native to release on Moodyman’s legendary Maohgani Music label - and that was with this debut release, ever! Having built his name across the UK and overseas with regular shows at London’s Corsica Studios Sessions, Dimensions Festival and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide to name but a few, Dan dropped his debut release via Mahogani music in early 2014, following up with a sold-out release on Bristol based Black Acre this year. Now the respected selector teams up with Wolf Music regular Medlar and joins the Delusions Of Grandeur family (home to the likes of Session Victim, 6th Borough Project and Toby Tobias) with the funk fuelled Walk EP.

Shoreline is a groovy dance-track inspired by jazz and funk. Quite satisfied with the flow and feel. It features one of my favourite sounds, the rhodes piano, accompanied with a funky bass line and some field recordings from a nearby beach. Hope you like it!

It goes without saying we’re big fans of Berlin-based label Toy Tonics and it’s probably of little surprise that we’re quite keen on their star duo COEO (soundcloud) as well. With a resume of an act double their age, Florian Vietz and Andreas Höpfl have been responsible for more than their fair share of underground hits. Native Riddim, Back In The Day, and Mydonna (the alternate cut of course) have them coming in with strong contenders for any top ten list for 2015, 2016, and 2017. While their latest effort, Flesh World may not make as immediate a statement as some of their previous work, you’ll surely be finding all three tracks from the EP in DJ sets around the globe. We have the pleasure of introducing the first track on the EP, a slow burning disco cut that sneaks out of Toy Tonics’ vaults just before the Summer season comes to an end.

Clocking in at a chunky 117 beats per minute, the oddly named Flesh World sucks you in with a hypnotic progression and a cheekily added layer of white noise that combine to create an immediate feel good mood. As the song continues, drums build as we’re treated with more and more of the original sample until all the elements come together for the song’s climax just past the 2 minute mark. Things will ebb and flow once more before the song is finished, perhaps leaving us wondering how we just listened to essentially the same loop for over 6 minutes. That just goes to show you the brilliant reputation that COEO have earned themselves as masters of sample selection and arrangement is definitely warranted. It’s no wonder they’ve found a home on Toy Tonics and are regularly touted as some of the labels brightest stars.

With Lukas Lehmann, a new face joins the footjob-squad. Out of his estimated 7.436 unfinished projects, he managed to complete three tracks, bag a remix and bundle it all up to what will hit the stores as 'This Is Why' EP. The A-Side kicks off with the discoish banger 'Q&H' and a beautiful synth-heavy remix by Lorenz Rhode - not only famous for his releases on Compost Records or Exploited but also for taking Detroit-Swindle-Liveshows to another level with his godlike keys-skills. The deeper side of Lukas' sound is represented on the B-Side. Starting with edgy piano chords, 'Solid/Fragile (Coexistence)' introduces an enchanting arpeggio midway through the track. With its distinctive strings, 'Nothing But A Heartache' makes for a semi-sentimental yet still hips-moving finisher.

Ltd, W/Lbl is a label based out Berlin that specializes in sophisticated, Classical, Jazz and Ethnic oriented electronic music. Since 2017 they have been putting out two vinyl series - one that features re-issues from previously released tracks and another that showcases all newly released work. Today's post involves the latter and includes an original from up and coming artist Alberto De Santiago, better known as Never Dull.

Based out of Los Angeles, Never Dull has been on the scene for only about a year now but has already released work for labels such as Feedasoul, Dansu Discs, and Hopera Records. In his latest effort titled Cool Jazz Boogie, Never Dull manages to pair sultry Spanish vocals along with a groovy assortment of languid synths and gently plucked guitar strings. In that sense, the title of the song is fairly straightforward in describing the vibe it creates and will certainly play well where ever lounging and relaxation is the prerogative.
