A new artist on TT! 

Athlete Whippet join the Toy Tonics family! The London/ Berlin-based duo makes a sound that is based on futuristic breakbeats combined with deep jazz chord progressions and a kind of funk that sounds more like it was made in 2100 than in a year behind us. Definitely not a retro record. The “Vesta EP” is a further proof that the connection between London and Berlin, that has been build by several Toy Tonics artists (Cody Currie is the latest in the gang), is becoming a strong one. The combination of the Berlin dancefloor sound and the UK jazz fusion soul is changing the scene and creating new moods. Neo soul and house, broken beats and disco… There are a lot of things happening in that new world and Athlete Whippet could be a strong player in that sound.

Dan Shake is probably best known more recently for being the first non-Detroit native to release on Moodyman’s legendary Maohgani Music label - and that was with this debut release, ever! Having built his name across the UK and overseas with regular shows at London’s Corsica Studios Sessions, Dimensions Festival and Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide to name but a few, Dan dropped his debut release via Mahogani music in early 2014, following up with a sold-out release on Bristol based Black Acre this year. Now the respected selector teams up with Wolf Music regular Medlar and joins the Delusions Of Grandeur family (home to the likes of Session Victim, 6th Borough Project and Toby Tobias) with the funk fuelled Walk EP.

Ltd, W/Lbl is a label based out Berlin that specializes in sophisticated, Classical, Jazz and Ethnic oriented electronic music. Since 2017 they have been putting out two vinyl series - one that features re-issues from previously released tracks and another that showcases all newly released work. Today's post involves the latter and includes an original from up and coming artist Alberto De Santiago, better known as Never Dull.

Based out of Los Angeles, Never Dull has been on the scene for only about a year now but has already released work for labels such as Feedasoul, Dansu Discs, and Hopera Records. In his latest effort titled Cool Jazz Boogie, Never Dull manages to pair sultry Spanish vocals along with a groovy assortment of languid synths and gently plucked guitar strings. In that sense, the title of the song is fairly straightforward in describing the vibe it creates and will certainly play well where ever lounging and relaxation is the prerogative.

First release of 2019 for the Sloth Boogie team, "Avenues" is a sublime EP from Australian talent Loure. Utilizing live session musicians to create four tracks of Jazz influenced Deep House.
'Streets' is a smokey Jazz number effortlessly layered with sultry vocals, brushed drums andsweet sweet brass instrumentation.

On the A side, Midnight Swing is peak-time house affair with pulsating chords and infectious sampled vocals, while Bleu Ciel smooths it out with luscious synths and a familiar voice over a driving classic drum machine beat. @1codycurrie turns in a jazzy and bumpin remix of Bleu Ciel on the flip, adding his own vocals into the mix and the record winds down with the stripped-down and sultry Broken Idyll.
