"Hamburg's mastering maestro and edit extraordinaire returns to Kojak Giant Sounds, following up his 2013 Roy Ayres edit with this swinging two tracker of groove based delights. On the A-side "Carrie On" bursts out the blocks with tough additional drums and a replayed buzzing synth bassline before settling into a swinging jazz influenced groove complete with rasping sax, off kilter piano chords and warm vibraphone licks. Perfect for the warm up, cool down or simply to switch things up a little, this cut perfectly marries the club friendly bottom end thump with sophisticated melodies. On the B-side, the title track plunges us into the psychedelic swirl of an ancient tribal ritual. Ever changing polyrhythms bump, thump and rattle and the additional synth bass throbs through the subs, feeding the dancefloor frenzy while raucous brass and group vocal chants put you slap bang in the middle of the action. It really feels like we (aka Mad Mats & Tooli) been around way longer than 5 ½ years with Local Talk but its really true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun! From what started as a somewhat simple and almost primitive urge to create a small house imprint has now grown into a much bigger affair. We really tried hard to keep the label from getting stuck in any genre (remember 90s house?) and to always keep the Local Talk relevant, curious, diverse and with a healthy dose of underground mentality. 

From our very first release with Bassfort’s excellent “Moon Shadow” in the summer of 2011 we had a crystal clear vision of what Local Talk should represent…house music in any way, shape or form! Over the years we released soulful, disco, jack, afro, vocal, deep, jazz, tech, latin, old school, acid, UK, Berlin, New Jersey, Detroit and of course Chicago inspired house music. If it made us bump…we put it out!

This brings us up to today and about +80 releases later. We thought about how we best could sum up these first 5 ½ years and immediately the image of Blaze classic album “25 Years Later” popped up. Besides the fact that its an amazing album cover it also a good representation when different musical genres fuse together. Its not strictly a house album but just as well a r&b, reggae and soul album. This fusion and variation of house sounds is something that we’ve tried to capture on our “5 ½ Years Later” compilation, split into two parts.

On part 1 you’ll find a dark bass-line driven house jam from Art Of Tones (check the mad sax!), a proper deep journey jam from NYCs DJ Spinna, a Blaze homage with that classic New Jersey sound from Sean McCabe, a bumpy world/jazz inspired cut straight outta Brescia from wonder kid Corrado Bucci.

Its not often you stumble upon a 9 piece soul band, who were so close to signing a deal with mca's new subsidiary Source records. But group politics and other factors got in the way, and the band shelved what music they had recorded. No reels surfaced but fortunately a member had kept some of those 1978 recordings.  BETWEEN THE TWO seemed to fuse great  soul compositions without the durge  of the disco era circa 1978. . With well thought out lyrics, backed by keys, trumpets and a driving bassline we really are pleased to add the group to the Super Disco Edit roster

Today Is the Day (Linkwood Chop)

Meet Me On The Corner is taken from the album ‘Orange Whip’ which was BBC 6 Music’s Album of The Day on its release. A pounding beat beefed up by bass, guitar and brass, propels forward while ‘Ríoghnach Connolly’ (pronounced Rainer) sings lyrics that could be straight out of the playground, but suggest something a little deeper.

Here is a remix from the legends of funky house music, ‘Crazy P’ with both vocal and dub versions. Turning Honeyfeet’s latest opus into a straight up soulful disco monster by ‘Hot Toddy’ and ‘Ron Basejam’, with Rioghnach’s rasping vocals playfully meandering over crisp beats and trademark live bass.

The Pendletons return with a remix of the final single from their long awaited debut LP "2 Steps Away" . "Keep It Working" is a foot stomping disco bomb of a track with melodic keys, horns slap bass and guest vocals from UK Soul Queen Gizelle Smith.
"Keep It Working was written with a feeling of late 70's early 80's disco gospel vibe.  After lyrics were written I enlisted British songstress Gizelle Smith (Jalapeño Records) to join me on vocals to give it the disco diva touch.  It's our attempt to create a tune that Larry Levan would be proud to spin at the Loft!! " - Eric Boss (The Pendletons)
The track received further disco enhancement from NYC disco don Jacques Renault, resulting in almost 6min of scintillanting and garage-esque goodness.
