In the last few years, we’ve seen French DJ and producer Laroye delivering the goods time after time on respected labels such as Atjazz Recordings, Compost, Makin Moves and Foliage. His most recent LP just released on Local Talk has been getting big support picking up plays on Radio 1, 6Music, Worldwide FM as well as spins from Natasha Diggs, Gilles Peterson, Craig Charles, Louie Vega, and Honey Dijon. Freerange is proud to welcome him back for the follow up to 2020’s release Be The Change, presenting you with a killer 4 track EP entitled ‘First Sight’.
 
Leading the charge, Laroye is joined by influential Detroit artist, DJ, producer, and vocalist Javonntte who has written and recorded a brilliant vocal for the title track. Laroye’s fat beats, jazzy chords and soulful touch make the perfect production for Javonntte’s vocals. Up next, we have the ‘Percussive Dub’ mix of ‘Uku Dance’ in which Laroye strips things back to the bare bones making for a serious percussion tool work out to spice up your sets. On ‘Uku Dance’ a bass-heavy groove is punctuated with vocal chops and deep Rhodes part which adds a moody, late-night touch. Just the kind of soulful, dubby, afro track that will get the house dancers throwing down like their lives depended on it! Closing out the release you’ll find an instrumental version of ‘First Sight’.

Athlete Whippet returns to Toy Tonics with his 3rd EP ‚U Never Listen’ on the German powerhouse dance label. Having studied music at Goldsmiths in London, Robin Braum aka Athlete Whippet is known for exploring the more playful side of house music and those genres around it, rich in instrumentation and variation. More performative than ever, ‘U Never Listen’ comes full of vocals, performed instruments, lively arpeggios, no samples, but racked with hooks. Having played and sung in bands all of his teenage years, Robin is picking up singing again on this record on title track ‘U Never Listen’ and ‘Maybe’. ‘Release Me’ features beautiful, multilayered vocals by Allysha Joy, known for her solo work on labels like Gondwana and First Word but also for being the voice of Australian cult outfit 30/70. It’s not the first time the two collaborate after Athlete Whippet’s remix of 30/70’s ‘Tempted’ on Rhythm Section reached millions of plays across the world. The EP is also a product of Robin’s deep friendship with Athlete Whippet founding member Avi Barath who co-wrote many of the songs.

Part of the core Toy Tonics crew alongside Barbara Boeing, Cody Currie, Kapote, Sam Ruffillo and Gee Lane (whose debut EP just dropped and was co-written and co-produced by Robin), Athlete Whippet has been touring across Europe this year and a full Australia tour is lined up around the EP. ‘U Never Listen’ comes fresh off the heels of his collab EP ‘Into You’ with Amy Dabbs on Aus Music. Generally taking a communal approach to music, Robin has been hosting intimate nights with DJs from far across the electronic music ecosystem since 2019. Guest sets from the likes of Seb Wildblood, Jitwam, Rebecca Vasmant, Fouk, Amy Dabbs, Hidden Spheres, Will Saul and some of the scene's brightest new talents have made for some unmissable parties in London's and Berlin's cosiest venues. In line with this ethos, he also co-ran artist collective and record label Squareglass - a proudly established home for new artists coming out of South London.

Athlete Whippet's work has seen regular support on radio stations worldwide incl. BBC Radio 1 and 6 by the likes of The Blessed Madonna, Sarah Story, Jamz Supernova and Danny Howard. His last Toy Tonics EP 'Nogueira' saw him on the cover of Spotify's Fresh Finds.

We don't know who Your Ex is (lol) but what we do know is that they go beautifully deep here across a pair of jazz-tinged and seductive deep house delights. First up is 'Lima' which opens with swirling pads and steamy sax motifs that drift up top and mean love is in the air as the lush chords melt the soul.

Tiago A.F. (also known as Mount Jam and soon to release works under the Nine Two alias) debuts in production duties via O Sótão Records with the upcoming 2 Years EP, set to be released in November 10, 2023.

Originally from Porto but based Lisbon, Tiago is a super promising producer that over the last 8 years has built an impressive collection of music yet to be unveiled. Everytime we sat with him we were amazed by the quantity and quality of the files he showed us and we couldn't miss the chance of curating his debut release that includes four tracks created between 2020 and 2022.

Hence the title of the EP. 2 Years. Because being an independent producer while working at the same time is not easy as you probably know. Especially if music is an escape for you - something light, to have fun, to let the mind free and feel grounded at the same time. And these four tracks are incredibly respectful of that spirit, of that feeling you get when you're grooving. Good news is that he intends to open up his vaults and release more tracks in various other genres, such as Dub Techno and Deep House, so this could very much be the beginning of something really cool from this talented guy.

Delving into his House, Disco and Deep House roots, 2 Years EP is also sonically connected to Tiago's proud inclinations for Jazz, Blues, Gospel or RnB. The
elements flow into a sonic trademark that is original and, we believe, soon-to-be recognisable. Mesmerizing vocal samples, percussion sections and chord progressions are all compacted into a mix of electronic and precise choices of instrumentation, providing a groovy, good-feeling and bouncy pace. Embracing club music origins, this record is spiritually connected to Jazz hats, Counter-bass chords and the soulful sentimental instincts of Gospel music.

After his demo tracks have gathered the attention of some moguls in the Portuguese club scene, resulting in the nomination by the renowned DJ Vibe as the rookie of the year in the country's electronic music panorama in 2021, this is a truly solid debut from this guy that just really loves and understands music at his core. We hope that this is not the last and that it doesn't take two years to release the next one. 2 Years EP will be available on Bandcamp from November 10. Welcome Tiago A.F.

Turbojazz's label Last Forever Records welcomes another Italian talent in its roaster of excellent producers: BRINE - Hails from Bologna but raised as a DJ between London and Miami via San Francisco and Japan, Marco is among the most interesting figures on the scene between deep house and broken beat.

This is demonstrated by this EP too, after releases for labels such as Flat White (UK) and Close To Truth (US) to name a few, where he broadly covers the spectrum ranging from the funky and wonky house of the EP track "The Way I Do It" to nu disco with "Got Groove" and then moving on to more broken and deep atmospheres with "Push Up On Me" done together with the mysterious AL7! and ending with the visionary song "Chill [DAAAM!] featuring Los Angeles very own's mc VRGO.
