'Deph Threats' is the debut solo album from Hampton, Virginia native Dephlow. Linking up with Portland, ME producer Phoniks to create a raw 14-track, 55 minute soundtrack focusing on inequality, social injustice and self-reflection. A year removed from collaborating with hip-hop duo Awon & Phoniks to produce "Dephacation", 2014's upbeat onslaught of bars and metaphors, Dephlow has now stepped back to a darker place and put his ability as a songwriter on full display across tracks like Hard Times, Time Is The Teacher, Lost Girls and WWPD. Dephlow spits his stories over a soulful palette of Phoniks productions and enlists the help of F. Draper, Anti-Lilly, Awon, Envy Hunter, Tiff The Gift, Nehemiah Bell, and My Main Man Keion across the LP's 14 cuts. The result is a project that delivers powerful messages and soul-stirring personal stories over Phoniks signature gritty, soulful beats to create a debut album that will stand among the most powerful in recent hip-hop history.

Henry Canyon's album "Canyonland" was originally released on bandcamp something like a year ago without any distribution behind it and we felt it was painfully unnoticed. So all in all a perfect contender for a Jakarta Dubplate. It was entirely produced by French producer Keor Meteor.

Canyonland is a conceptual album that revolves around Henry Canyons' journey to Los Angeles, his struggle to adjust to a new life there, his coming to terms and attempts to keep a solid connection with his identity as a "half-French, Jewish Brooklynite" that has been transplanted into a place that is wildly different from what he was used to. It also outlines his efforts to solidify his personal and professional spheres, his romantic ups and downs and his perspective on Los Angeles life in general. Musically-speaking, this album is a much smoother ride than the topic itself betrays. Henry's baritone voice glides effortlessly over a beautiful, West-Coast boom-bap backdrop (produced by Keor Meteor), riding the tempo with technically proficient flow and great lyrics. Zoe Rose, a very talented, jazzy and soulful singer/songrwiter, makes several appearances throughout, lending her silky-smooth voice to many of the choruses. Freddy Jay provides some funky vinyl cuts on others. Open Mike Eagle also makes an appearance, lending a great guest-verse. Overall, Canyonland is a great album for both casual listeners who want something they can easily throw on in the car for a relaxing listen or more hardcore listeners who like to dig into the lyrics and think about what a rapper is conveying.

The last we heard of First Serve it was 3am in a Parisian suburb at an out of control house party with ‘The Goon Time Mixtape’ blasting into the night.  That was just a taste of things to come from De La Soul’s Plug 1 &amp; Plug 2 present ‘First Serve’; a dynamic hip-hop group, an album, a concept, the soundtrack to a movie that has yet to be made and a fable for our times.  

‘First Serve’ is many things, but at its heart it is the story of two young boys from Queens, New York with big dreams and larger rhymes. Two friends, Deen Whitter (aka Plug 2 / Dave) and Jacob ‘Pop Life’ Barrow (aka Plug 1/ Pos), friends from seventh grade, are by their own admission, “different, but the differences seem to complement everything we do.” Their name ‘First Serve’ comes from their motto, “First come, First Serve, get what you deserve.” 

We get a first glimpse into their world in the form of the track "Pushin' Aside, Pushin' Along".  Due to hit the streets in April 2012, the ‘First Serve’ album, made with acclaimed French production team 2 &amp; 4 (aka Chokolate &amp; Khalid),  tells the story of two dreamers in a basement struggling to start their musical career, the battles they face, through to the point that they eventually release their debut single, ‘make it big’ and their hard work and persistence finally pays off. As we know that is rarely where the story ends and the story of ‘First Serve’ is no different. Taking place in an animated world that could have been imagined by Hawley Pratt on Magic Mushrooms, the high spirited and often hilarious journey is pure old school hip-hop; skits, disco, beats, funk, quips, burns and hustlin’ all included.

Pencils Not Pistols is the brand new E.P. from UK duo Imperial and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. This unlikely duo linked up in late 2012 after Imperial (now affectionately known as Big Dave because of his mighty 6’4’’ frame) sent K.I.N.E.T.I.K. (who has yet to be blessed with ANOTHER alias) a polite email requesting to collaborate. After being impressed with the spelling, grammar and attached beat in the email, K.I.N.E.T.I.K. jumped at the chance to work on some music with this courteous chap. What initially began as a track for Imperial’s yet to be released solo album, slowly morphed into a collaborative project, which once again utilizes the tried and tested formula of one producer and one emcee. Following copious amounts of parma ham and pavlova, the two discovered that they not only share a similar outlook on music but on life itself. This mutual foresight enabled them to craft seven interlinked songs that all touch on different subjects in an honest yet humorous manner. Most importantly, the project reinforces the divine duality of the human experience, even in the midst of the laughs and giggles contained throughout.

The sample-based production on Pencils Not Pistols united both Imperial and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. in their love for that strong tradition in Hip Hop. The duo pay homage with their artwork; as it is a parody of Biz Markie’s album, I Need A Haircut. As you might know, that was the album that changed music sampling law forever. Gilbert O’Sullivan… we see you. Sigh.

Future plans include a limited edition album of Pencils Not Pistols on vinyl with official merchandise. All funding will be generated by fan support.

In closing, if Bill & Ted canceled a few excellent adventures and decided to make a Hip Hop project; then it would probably sound like this... Put your pencils in the air.
