Terroir is the set of all environmental factors that affect a crop's phenotype, unique environment contexts and farming practices, when the crop is grown in a specific habitat. Collectively, these factors are said to have a character; terroir refers to this character. 
Applying the concept of terroir to music was the inspiration behind the 1er Cru record label. The unique historical and social context an individual artist finds themselves in, along with their production methods create the distinctive "sound" and "feel" of Detroit Soul vs. Philly, Memphis and so on...thus Enjoy Detroit was born!
