The elusive Hackney basement dweller Alpha Delta colloquially known as Alpha D drops his debut single “The Moat” as the very first 12” output on the mysterious new hybrid Berlin++Sydney based label Delphic Iris Records. The headline single inspired by a faithful rave session in Croatia where Alpha D was simultaneously emotionally touched, scarred and sonically pummelled by kick drums at a wild and stormy Dimensions Festival.

This dark techno beast was the aggressive, distorted acid offspring of that faithful night raving between the mud and tears of the crowd at the formidable Moat stage at Punta Christo. His OG Mix is classic 132bpm heavy pounding acid techno at its moodiest.

In the Remix department we have support from the entire Delphic Iris Records crew on this one. A fitting introduction to the labels sound. 

Sydney based Drox of Analog Cabin fame has a low end electro bass bin rattler for us that delves into melancholic and psychedelic 303 territory, deep, minimal and functional a perfect mid set groover in our opinion.

Critical Automator takes us on a deep and elegant techno journey transcending both murky seas and lush hazy skies in his dub mix. Definitely dialled back from the OG mix but there is no shortage of kick drum energy in this one.

16 Faces cooks up complex drum work and funk driven baselines in a hybrid 146 bpm number that’s just a touch rave, grime and idm in his 5am mix. The off beat stabs and euphoric strings are plentiful, more than enough to get your through any wobbly kneed sunrise.

Well, ok. Not strictly a debut. Our Mexico maestro, Paulor, did feature on the third instalment of our Familiar Faces series back in 2020, and now he’s back, as one half of our new cosmic couple. As resident DJ of the legendary Futuro Primitivo he has soundtracked the nights for so many and showcased his own music on Life And Death, DGTL, Kompakt and more.

Partner-in-shine, Kalexis. A supreme selector. Deadly behind the decks and an artist who finally cut her production teeth with 2021’s ’Neptune Rising’, now readies her latest work… Right here on Riotvan.
The pair ease us in with the beatless opener ‘Going Through The Void’, before hitting us square in the chest with the growling stomp of ‘Energy’. On the flip they entice with the electrified folk feels of ‘Lashes’, before the rotor-blade drone of ‘Magnetic’ closes the EP.

ăThe Flying Guillotine 2Ň is the bloody sequel to SerenaceŐs first appearance on Shaw Cuts in 2019, continuing the head-lopping violence with a group of freedom fighters lead by the heroic Ma Teng battling against the evil despot Emperor Yung and his reign of terror. 
Teng has developed a protective device, similar to a spiky metal umbrella, that allows him to defend against the deadly flying guillotine attacks of the violent regime. ăCurrentŇ, its bombastic drum patterns, razor-sharp synth waves and vicious vibe strengthens the rebels to resist the brutal assaults. 

But the Emperor immediately reacts, creating a double flying guillotine to counter Ma TengŐs iron umbrella and the rebel union is left defenseless again. ăAiming From A DistanceŇ, a vivid breakbeat cut combining rolling percussion, arpeggiated synth chords and sirens from hell, raises the rebels' hopes to give them another answer. 
Secret insurgent Na Lan infiltrates the EmperorŐs inner circle by gaining his trust with a group of female warriors whom he allows to train with the flying guillotine palace guards. However, Na Lan only wants to steal the plans of the improved weapon and deliver it to the rebel squad, in order to devise another counteracting force. With the crisp bassline and the energy-filled breaks of ăTest 21Ň, the rebels can gain an insight into the elaborated guillotine and find a possible way to defeat it.

FarronŐs profound techno version of ăCurrentŇ brings in the necessary tension for the final showdown. The improved double flying guillotine VS a new secret defensive system. Will the rebels be able to team up and defeat the tyrant once and for all? No matter what happens, the saga continues.

Expect The Unexpected...

Italian legend Walter Del Vecchio aka Quiroga pays tribute to the acid house era on Hell Yeah with a new package that comes with two originals, an ambient mix and a remix from cult hero DMX Krew.

Quiroga released his last sublime album Passages on this label and it came as the latest entry into a discography filled with beauty and detail. He is a talented musician from Naples who has his own left-of-centre take on the Mediterranean sounds of the city, as he shows "once again" here with a house-leaning outing.

Quiroga has teamed up with cult musician Dario Bassolino and called upon Whodamanny's mixing skills for these new tracks.

First is 'Once Again', a punchy and chunky house cut with skewed bass spraying about the mix. Its rough analogue edges are lit up by searing acid lines that never quit and will turn any party into a cauldron of intensity.

The Ambient Version is a full-flavour downtempo workout that keeps the wild acid lines, adds in some FX, old-school piano chords and a yelping female vocal next to a blissful breakdown.

'Once Again' (DMX Krew Remix) is then a bumping acid-electro monster with fat drums and the manic 303 offset by serene chord work to make for a perfectly emotional dance floor delight.

'Freak The Funk' is a second original cut and not at rides of crisp snares and snapping drums breaks with a warm bassline and smeared cosmic chords up top. It's a classy peak-time house cut with magical pixelated synth melodies.

Alongside superb artwork from PlanetLuke, this is another essential package from Hell Yeah.

In the ethereal realm of the void there existed The Delphic Iris, a being of otherworldly power and boundless knowledge. The Iris was said to possess the ability to see into the future and hear unique and strange sounds from times and dimensions beyond our grasp. 

Legend has it that with a specific alignment of space and time, and with the mastering of secret ritual practices, The Delphic Iris can be conjured by mortal musicians to ignite and inspire their souls.

History's stark warnings tells us that summoning The Delphic Iris is fraught with danger and risks the possible collapse of our universe, for the Iris is an unstable and powerful being. However, The Delphic Iris' visions are often too tempting to resist much like a Siren's song.  

In recent years, electronic musicians Drox and 16 Faces came across the existence of the Delphic Iris through secret texts found in "the Book of Tidder" and were able to command its power for short periods of time, and so “Delphic Iris Records” was born.

Fortune has been kind to Drox and 16 Faces so far, despite the obvious risks of summoning the entity. We do not know why this is exactly, as the ceremonies are still to this day shrouded in mystery. What we do know is that we too are lucky, because now we can hear a small glimpse of what The Delphic Iris sees.

  It is up for debate as to whether The Delphic Iris’s intentions are good or evil, so listen with caution and may these sounds consume you, for the future of music looks promising, at least for now ….
