From the mouth of the central blast furnace, which was wide open like a huge, blazing jaws in the darkness of the main manufactory, rows of mechanical soldiers paced rank after rank. Cast from constant-alive metal, which was created and multiplied by the king's alchemist, the soldiers were already moving in a file to the royal palace to appear before the gaze of the monarch. They were mistaken by superstitious workers for an army of demons. The alchemist, flashing red lenses under the hood of a dusty, dark cloak, telepathically led his iron children to the beginning of their service.
