October 2013 - Just finished finals of my first module in med school and am feeling great. I put this mix together full of tracks that when I hear them I think, "Wow, this is 'seriously good'" and that make me close my eyes and smile, even as lame as that sounds. Some are happy and blissful while some are more melancholic and heartbreaking but for me, the result is the same. There's even a new bootleg of mine stuck in there - the first time I've ever played it. Sorry though, no vinyl in this one. 3 QUESTIONS to STIMMING:

Q: Lets talk about your exciting mix. From Ambient to Drum N Bass, from heartbreaking melodys to distorted beats: How did these different tracks and styles have an early impact on your career?

A: Well, the music I played here is pretty much the kind of music I listen and listened to in general. In a sense this mix represents my musical horizon - I just restrained to go further than Amon Tobin on the complex side of things. I took the name of the series literally and tried to sketch the path I took in meeting the bass: starting with Trip Hop, followed by Drum And Bass to finally meet the 4/4 formula. All framed by an approach that doesn't care too much about popularity but is much more about musicality and aesthetics. Even a bit of radicalism if you think of Krust’s "Warhead".

Q: Field recording has become an important part of making your own music. As you also used some recordings inside this podcast, give us a little insight please.

A: Yes, I included two in the mix here: one is just raindrops recorded from inside my car - one day I figured how beautiful rain sounds when dropping not too hard on the panorama roof. The other recording I made while I was in Mumbai - I played there but had a bit of time off the next day. So I took a walk and brought my portable recorder - the recording took place in between two streets on a traffic island and I was seriously frightened to death to leave it. I needed about ten minutes to be brave enough to again cross the street. But allow me to say: yes, I use found sounds in the broadest sense in my music but for me they are just a source just like any other.  Synth, piano, plugin, sampler, field record, my voice - it's all just a part of the painting.

Q: Your last album “Alpe Lusia” has been produced on top of the italian alps in 2016. Which future Stimming projects are on the way and where are you planning to work on them?

A: Concept-wise I will build content for a concert type of show so my next album might leave the strict 4/4 formula (again?). But in the meantime I got a family which I’m afraid I won’t be able to leave for such a long time again like for the "Alpe Lusia" album. Two months after the wodden cabin in the italian alps I also joined a cargo ship for a week to build the liveset which I still play (elektron octatrack based, no laptop at all) and afterwards I realized I fulfilled two live-dreams just on time before son#1 was about to join us.
