Especial brings back, a return to the source, heading to the sunset, the special lands and divergent scene of Bristol and the West Country. Melding the psychedelic with electronic, crossing the lay lines of this septic isle, the presence of the mothership, the grail that is Glastonbury and the triangulation of Free party endeavours from the fields around Bath to Frome and on to Castelmorton.
Up and coming, DJ, promoter and more recently producer, Chez De Milo has steadily built a sound, mixing cosmic and rhythmic soundscapes, hypnotic trance rituals and psychedelic world grooves across a limited number of EPs and remixes for the growing list of labels, garnering DJ and clubbing admiration.
Stepping up a level, Et Al showcases the best of this pulsating sound, growing in confidence and stature to deliver 4 tracks of equal strength. Title track Et Al starts with a trippy, driving bomb. Swirling, building, the tight repetitive Roland 808, Nord 3pm and Arp oscillations intertwin to create a dance floor beat boy dream.

La Rama is back on wax with two original compositions from local producer/DJ Rig Thrall. We first linked up with the Rakya crew member at the shop and soon after released his music on a limited run 10” named ‘Exit 19’ via our La Rama Dubs sub label. We kept in touch, and when an assortment of unreleased material caught our ears, we quickly jumped on the opportunity to get working on this 4th record on our label.

‘Broken Guru’ drones and grooves you through the cavernous depths, out in to the open, where the clouds part and a voice reaffirms that you are on the right path. From here we dive back into the depths, with the full confidence that this is the right path.

Thanks to two Roman legends, we have variations on the theme of ‘Broken Guru’. Marco Passarani delivers the masterful hyper dance floor club dub with his many years of experience clearly on display… play it out and you will see that this is some kind of sorcery. In speaking of magic, we are honoured to have the one and only Lory D serve us up a bass heavy re-interpretation, recorded in one pass through his live rig and edited to perfection.

‘Acidly Dose’ is the second original from Rig Thrall, an acid infused beat of the highest order with all the necessary elements to give the room a communal high.

The Future Is Paradise (Tech Support Remix)

Rome-based producer A-Tweed lands on Ransom Note sub-label Human Endeavour with a four-track EP of hypnotic, leftfield chuggers.

Well known for his cocktail of crawling, lysergic beats and low slung acid mutations, the Italian producer follows outings for labels like TRESOR, Multi Culti and Hard Fist, with the wonky, tripped-out rhythms of ‘Riot Disco Punk’. 

Shunning conventional dancefloor tropes, A-Tweed brings his signature punk attitude to this self-proclaimed “personal musical riot”, launching with ‘Kabuki Spin’, a steady beat awash with reverberating synths and whispered vocals that take us out of reality. 

The off kilter wonk of the title track follows with a smattering of bleeps, bloops, crunches and vocal stabs, setting the scene for the intoxicating, skewed rhythms of ‘Akira Danse!’ and psychedelic tribal beats of ‘Dusty Rumble Fish’; each track serving as a reminder that it's always more fun to colour outside of the lines.

Spectral Bounce returns with a groovy and moody set of tracks by Uruguayan tastemaker Molen. 'Future is Gone' explores dark yet glistening corners of minimal tech house, blending distorted basslines, resonant synth leads, and muffled vocals to create a cinematic aesthetic.

For their 21st release, Not An Animal Records welcomes the Northeast-of-England's Tom Rankin, aka Frequencies Of Love to the fold for his first-ever release. A half-step away from their usual low-slung sound, the EP is a bright and sepia-tinted affair bringing prime-time energy to the label. It is rooted squarely on the dancefloor and steeped with glimmering synthesizers and lashings of keys. Despite this stylistic departure, the ever-present driving grooves make it feel right at home.

The EP begins with ‘Tucan’, delicately shifting and changing synthesizer arps flow throughout, weaving a delightful tapestry of past and present. The record glides smoothly into round two with ‘Bpsyde’ pulling no punches; it has a distinct atmosphere of the old-school about it. A one-two of percussive breaks on the one hand and progressive bass on the other with LFO Arps, keys and nineties vocal chops completing the combo.

‘Pegasus’ is a shimmering whirlpool off the Adriatic coast. An antiphonal of choral chanting and female spoken word endlessly circle the groove, occasionally combining in a viscous duetto of wacky, Italo-flavoured deliciousness. For the remix, groove deconstruction connoisseur Fantastic Man gives ‘Pegasus’ the Midas treatment. Riding a throbbing and reprogrammed bassline, key elements from the original mix cameo throughout the track, rounded off by piano chord progressions to complete the pensive sound that constitutes the glue throughout the EP.
