Medulla Oblongata is a discreet yet emerging Dj who blossoms in his musical biotope between ambient and a mental and hypnotic techno. His techno sets are an invitation to an immersive journey where dancers can forget themselves. We could see him working lately with the Château Perché Festival and their secret and uncompromising side projects and mixing at KALT Club (Strasbourg, Fr) where he can express himself without boundaries.

With other weirdos he also co-founded the collective TRÊVE gathering artists from different horizons around ambient and visual arts in order to propose dreamlike and contemplative events. His ambient sets become hybridized with tape samples, droning machine loops and synthesizers.

Chart topping dance music sensation Duke Dumont presents a new offering from his imprint and artist collective with ‘The Mara EP’ coming courtesy of fellow London-based producer and DJ, Kiwi. 

A sterling three-tracker, ‘The Mara’ can be heard alongside an edit from the label boss Duke Dumont himself and b-side addition ‘Gerenuk’.  

'Hearing the demo of ‘The Mara’, it made me regress to the time I spent in the rainforest, chilling with the Chieftains and drinking ayahuasca,” explains the Duke. 

“The obscure sounds of exotic bird mating calls which I heard are replicated in the synth chirps and tonal aspects of this track. Ultimately though, I signed the song because of the unique character Kiwi has created sonically. Character within electronic music is usually hard to find, but Kiwi has achieved this effortlessly.”

There is definitely something mysterious about Hiss:1292, and unlike a number of other techno projects, it is not the identity of the two producers at stake here.
It has never been concealed : the guys behind the curtains are Opuswerk and Francois X. The latter is found at postal codes between 1200 and 1209 in Switzerland, the second in 92... right near Paris. Hence 1292.
Nobody's hiding here...

Nobody ? Well, not quite. For this new project at least hides something, or some mysterious spirits that may have chosen to haunt these vinyl grooves. Four of them to be correct ; namely Augun, Damballah, Eshu and Simbi ; four Veves of the Dahomey and Yoruba Vodoo traditions, four complex and intense spirits that have seized Hiss:1292's music to make it their own.

It is often the intuition of similarities between voodoo and techno that pushes some producers to chose their tracks names with Vodun keywords. Indeed, intense experiences one can endure in some effective techno installment can sometimes approach the mental images we have of Voodoo trance and seizures.
Here, the process has been different. The voodoo theme was unintended at first, but it seemed like a spell had been cast on the record, and the artists were bound to name their music after the spirits that dwell within.If you are curious enough to read a little about Augun, Damballah, Eshu, and Simbi while you listen to the EP, you'll probably get an eerie feeling, the machine feel of techno will start to peel off, and you'll get the strange impression you're listening to something else.
And don't you worry. The way it has been arranged, those spells should all be very benign...

The vinyl comes with an inner sleeve, where the sequel of the Hiss:1292 conceptual comic strip by Matthieu Cannavo has been printed.
The vévés' glyphs have also been represented by the creation of typographic characters, and the skull-makeup-suggestive artwork is accidental wall paint from the future DEMENT3D studios...

HISS:1292 - VéVé EP [DM3D010] Snippets

In Aeternam Vale is an electronics fanatic who has experimented continually with the analogical synths and old rhythm boxes in his collection. To this day his music remains incredibly powerful, cold and caustic and takes cues from punk rock nihilism and aggression. He was in a band back in the eighties but also was inspired by Kraftwerk and conjured up his own inhuman musical universe with haunting singing front and centre. His nightmarish atmospheres also come with a sense of satire and humour and though confrontational in nature, are hugely rewarding. His visceral relationship with music has played out with releases on Minimal Wave and went on to take in trance-techno, ambient and even house in recent decades. Opening up is ‘La Plage’, with vulnerable vocals lost in a mix of jittery drums and hits that are innocent yet powerful. It’s a brilliantly unusual sound that is both danceable yet emotional. The stiff and coarse ‘Bathroom’ has deadpan vocals and flat footed drums. The edginess of the voice is offset by a more playful melody and the whole thing prowls at a slow and predatory pace. From there, ‘Rattlesnake’ rides rough on a corrugated bassline as metallic hits light up the groove like a strobe. Mangled vocals add a layer of grime and eeriness while the drums work you into a slow motion dance that will send clubs wild. Last of all, ‘The Missionary’ is the most industrial and brutalist of the lot, with gauzy textures, drilling bass and dystopian moods all finished with a voice that is refracted around the mix. This is utterly thrilling and fresh sounding electronic music that is truly timeless.
