Last Year at Marienbad are thrilled to welcome into the fold French producer extraordinaire DJ Psychiatre, who weaves yet another compelling house laden yarn through four groovers of the highest order.

DJ Psychiatre is the main alias of Sylvain Creton, who over the past few years has curated a compelling audial universe that continues to grow organically and intuitively with each release. His take on House has won many admirers, with praise set aside for his dexterous approach and multi-faceted style. Whether it be acid tinged rollers through to softly spoken rhythmic atmospheres, via disco tinged numbers which never fail to get the party going, Creton has allowed @djpsychiatre to be a truly expressive medium. 

‘Those DJs’ begins with the steppin’ drum pattern to get things going. Psychiatre once again allows the steam to build up before launching into the core melodic sequence, which consists of a subtle bass line paired with sweeping, angelic chords. The resulting mix hints at the soundscape opener, but makes a distinct focus on the rhythmic pattern and how it holds everything together. Acid lines once again play a big part of the onward progression, and its a wormhole to get engrossed deep within. 

EPs always have the potential to leave a lasting mark on listeners, despite their relatively short length. DJ Psychiatre has made a habit of releasing records that speak volumes, often well beyond their physical bounds, and this new EP of his is no exception. Blending heart with the beguiling, the two sides of the record demonstrate his deft and wide reaching touch, filled to the brim with motifs that make this music distinctly his own. Last Year at Marienbad couldn’t be more excited to share this music with you, from a true maestro of the genre…

acid echoes. »tick« by bristol-based fella thrilogy screws down the force and untwines the
groove with a more mellow, bass-driven foundation and intricate percussive patterns to a subtle

renowned duo decent rides instantly slaps your face and unfolds its raw energy with a stomping

We are again blessed with the sights and sounds of John Beltran’s and Shane Donnelly’s Sol Set project, with the music found within set to soundtrack many a sunset meander and moonlight ponder for years to come….

Sol Set is a musical project with roots lasting back over 20 years, a space in which a number of supremely talented musicians have flocked to, with Beltran acting as the conduit for the collective’s output. Based in Detroit, Sol Set has its sights set all over, drawing influence from a number of eras, scenes and styles, with a particular affection for Brazilian funk and soul - with twists and turns thrown in along the way for good measure. The result is a body of work that expresses joy from all facets, providing sublime atmospheres and tones for listeners to loose themselves within, a captivating and absorbing sound that is carried by the highest levels of musicianship. Following the collective’s debut on ‘Earth Volume 4’ back in 2000, a long hiatus eventually bought ‘Ola de Novo’ to the fore in 2022, with a highly successful remix record following shortly after, with both records highlighting the fantastic musical chemistry and depth of ambition found within that have come to define the collective. Their universe is one of such captivating scale, an audial delicacy that can be enjoyed time and time again.
