After the first two Earthly Tapes & a handful of EPs, Earthly Measures drops its first full-length album with Mente Organica’s El Espacio - a beautifully crafted album with glorious textures, steady grooves, calming vibes & a dancefloor filler or two.

Born in Bogotá, Colombia – producer & multi-instrumentalist Mente Organica has slowly been making a name for himself within the folktronica/Latin scene. Following multiple album and EP releases over the past few years, El Espacio marks his first release on wax and the music stands out from anything he has done before. These 8 tracks surprise & reward the listener as individual harmonies at first, and finally, as a whole and immersive symphony.

From “Pablo Bebe’, a track he wrote which is inspired & dedicated to his best friend – to ‘Close the Door’, written in the depths of quarantine, reflecting isolation, loneliness & introspection, & ‘Yoga’ - a song written with his father that can be easily heard filling the dancefloor as well as easy bedroom sessions, this album truly does feel like his most personal work yet. ‘Eagle’- an utterly unique track born in Pucon, Chile, after meeting opera singer Katy Prado - blends sensibilities of 60s psychedelic rock vocals with Mente’s signature electronica. ‘Dame Un Segundo’ is the lobby track of the album, with Balearic vibes: chilled, jazzy & floaty. Title track ‘El Espacio’ pays homage to Mente’s influences growing up - think Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation & Air - giving us that Trip Hop vibe. ‘Huanini’ is a real groover - a low-key dance track that evokes that “start of the night” feeling of excitement, with heavy experimentation of granular synths. Finally, rounding the album off with melodies of hope, delight and positivity, ‘Partida’ reminds us that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

ZZK Records Presents Uji’s TIMEBEING 

A prehistoric tribe dances around the fire. Young revelers lose themselves on a packed dancefloor. Explorers fly a rocket toward another galaxy.

In the TIMEBEING universe, these things are all connected. From the earliest days of humanity, people have strived to expand their reality beyond the limitations of the here and now—and have used technology to make it happen. Their methods and machines may have changed across the centuries, but the drive remains constant, vibrating through history and occupying a space where time loses all meaning. “The art of making music is the art of manipulating time,” says Uji. “I have had experiences where time shifts dramatically; sometimes it slows down to a halt, while moments seemingly become infinite. This is where the magic happens. This is when the fabric of what we call reality begins to show its seams.”

An Argentintian electronic producer and ethnomusicologist, Uji has been navigating those seams for more than two decades, initially as one half of the pioneering duo Lulacruza, but more recently with his own solo work. TIMEBEING continues that lineage, but also elevates it, taking shape as a interdisciplinary multimedia journey that includes a new album, an accompanying short film, an immersive live show and the birth of a new decentralized community of like-minded artists, creators, seekers, and dreamers.

Mesmerizing and deeply psychedelic, the TIMEBEING LP certainly reflects the rich sound palette of Latin America—and its intersection with various strains of electronic music—but Uji taps into traditions—both musical and spiritual—that can’t be hemmed in by borders and boundaries. Transcendence is the goal, and the album moves through fantastical spaces that may or may not exist: a metallic jungle, a Balkan spaceship, a cloud that morphs into a tumultuous whirlpool. All the while, Uji criss-crosses history, consulting elders and futurists alike as he throws open the doors of perception and pens a new mythology about what it means to be human.

Some of that mythology takes shape in the TIMEBEING film. Written by Uji himself, the eight-part opus has been brought to life by Jazmin Calcarami, who makes her directorial debut following years of working as an experimental make-up artist with the likes of Björk and Cirque de Soleil. On stage, the transportive TIMEBEING live show is set to premiere at the Artlab Cultural Center in Buenos Aires, where it will be debuted as a part of a weekly residency this spring. More than just a concert, it’s a dazzling theatrical experience, complete with dancers, costume changes, arresting visuals and even an on-stage “ship” (shaped like a mollusk) where Uji himself will perform.

Finding connection in the infinite, TIMEBEING exists without limits or restrictions, its virtual offerings just as important as the physical ones. Those offerings—which will include an exclusive NFT series—won’t come from Uji alone, either. He envisions the TIMEBEING community as a decentralized collective in the true sense of the word, its members united in the creation of new myths and stories that expand the possibilities of human consciousness and existence.

“What we see on the surface, is only that—the surface,” says Uji. “There is so much more. Music is the bridge and the possibilities are limitless.”

TIMEBEING will be released on vinyl and all digital platforms on October 21st 2022

We are more than happy to present the first full EP by @harmon33 . The sound enthusiast is well known from other projects and has been active for quite some time. "Ghosting" and "Grounded" are a little older but nonetheless timeless beauties. Remixes were contributed by the lovebirds @Faberbeatz , @Blindsmyth and @Luced feat. @aleezalynn.

Witchtape #53 | Guest Wizz : Isaque Solaris

(Story continued from Witchtape #52)

The little witch sensed she was nearing her destination.  Deep, very deep in the African rain forest.  She had been flying over these endless, pristine woods for over an hour and she couldn’t believe that such a big forest could exist on this planet.  It was way bigger than all the forests of her home country in Western Europe combined.
At one point, the girl sensed she had reached her destination and gently touched down in a small clearing.  After hitting the ground, she quickly became overwhelmed by the energy of the forest, which entered her body through her feet and which resonated strongly throughout her whole body.  Even the earth started to shake.  To her amazement, she saw little trees shooting up from the ground while flowers started to bloom.  The mystic connection between witch and forest released a force she had never experienced before… this forest had clearly been waiting for a witch.  The girl was really impressed by this warm welcome, but at the same time she made it clear that she was already the caretaker of a little forest in Europe and that witches always stay dedicated to just one single forest… for life.  Yet the little witch felt this immense love coming from this vast forest, while a few plants were creeping up her legs.
Then her heart skipped a beat when she saw a giant entering the clearing… she immediately knew it was her lover, her soon-to-be husband.  Surprisingly, he was not alone as he was accompanied by a little girl, who was obviously a tiny little witch and a cousin of the wizard.
After their first kiss in 4 months’ time (the 5ft 5” petite witch being pushed upwards by some helpful creepers so that she came at eye level with 6ft 10” giant wizard), he introduced the 2 witches to each other.  They were amazed at their differences and couldn’t stop looking each other in the eyes.  The black eyes of the tiny witch were beyond mesmerizing, completely contrasting with the bright green eyes of her European sister witch.  It appeared that the child was 9 years old, which happened to be exactly the same age as when the witch settled down in her forest in Europe.  Meanwhile, the nearby animals observed the little black girl, and they realized that finally a witch had arrived to take care of the forest.  Some gorillas approached the child and adopted her instantly in the group.
For an instance, the white witch had a vision of the future and she saw that the 9 year old girl was destined to live for over a thousand years and would eventually become very successful to make this immense forest thrive like never before… although she also sensed this would be a frustrating and difficult task for the next 50 years.  Meanwhile, more and more curious animals approached to get a glimpse of the new witch, but the gorilla family did their best to shield the little girl from all this excitement and to provide a safe nest for her, while the tiny witch started to play with some baby gorillas, visibly already feeling at ease in the forest which would become her home for the next 1000 years…
