Chancha Via Circuito's new album "Amansara" is out on Sept 23rd through Wonderwheel (US + AUS/NZ), Crammed (EU) & Charcho (Latin America).


Argentian producer Pedro Canale aka Chancha Via Circuito returns from a three-year sojourn with his long awaited third album, Amansara.  Originally coming out of Buenos Aires's famed digital cumbia scene, Chancha has notoriously broken way outside those boundaries to forge unprecedented mergers between Brazilian rhythms, Paraguayan harp, Andean mysticism and the solitude of Argentinian folklore - all processed through his own futuristic style of post-dubstep.  Chancha's sound is without question truly unique and instantly recognizable to the point he has become a key reference point for an entire crop of artists that have begun to carry his genes. 

Hailed by the Washington Post, the New York Times, Pitchfork, NPR and countless others, Chancha Via Circuito defies even the shrewdest of marketing geniuses.  On one hand, he is something of a cult artist within micro-circles of electronic music, having been invited to perform at Montreal's MUTEK as well as the Roskilde and Vive Latino Festivals. At the same time, Chancha's music has found broad appeal outside of the avant-garde, most notably his magnificent remix of José Larralde's "Quimey Neuquén" which was heavily featured in 2013 as part of the final season of the critically acclaimed television series Breaking Bad. Fans of the show undoubtedly remember Walter White burying his millions in the desert, soundtracked by the wide and gentle grooves of Chancha Via Circuito.

Amansara is a natural progressing of Chancha's special strain of electronic South America. Lead single "Coplita" features the haunting vocals of previous collaborator Miram Garcia, while "Sueno En Paraguay" merges Andean folklore sounds with bleeps and blips and pounding drums in a way that sounds completely natural and ordained. "Jardines" features the driving vocals of Lido Pimienta merging with heavy synths, percussion and bells into an unforgettable track, while both "Tarocchi" and "Guajaca" ramp things up into deep, electronic dancefloor inna rainforest territory.

We celebrate two years of Shika Shika with the release of our third compilation: Eco. 

Eco sums up what Shika Shika is about - the global reverberations of styles, genres, traditions and sounds moving around the world and fusing to create inspiring new music. We call it music without borders and on Eco we present 11 tracks that are exactly that. 

The tracks we hand-picked for Eco draw inspiration from traditional rhythms, stories and melodies and fuse them with individual inspirations, sounds from nature and electronic music. This is exemplified on Di Laif’s anthemic opener “Paso Por el Fuego” or Guazú’s incredible “Pava de Monte” featuring Wenceslada. Some artists like Jin Jerei and Oxhalá take us on a journey deep into their roots while others like Didacte and O.R. create atmospheric textural, electronic-organic soundscapes. Ibu Selva’s “Chega de Esperar” is a rework of a Brazilian agrarian reform anthem while Klik & Frik offer up a beautiful edit of Hassan Ben Jaafar, a master of Moroccan Gnawa music. 

It is hard to believe it has been two years since Shika Shika was started as a platform to showcase some of the music we truly loved from the thriving community from Sao Paulo to Seoul. Two years of connections, exchanges, ideas, new sounds and, most of all, incredible support and feedback from the people who listen & buy this music all over the world. We started Shika Shika as a way to give exposure and support to this community, sharing 70% of all the profits with the artists directly, and are inspired to continue pushing the music we love.

Dengue Dengue Dengue’s latest release is named after the traditional dance called Son de los Diablos (Spanish for Sound of the Devils), which was brought over to Felipe Salmon and Rafael Pereira’s native Peru by the Spanish conquistadors, and consisted on a procession of dancers and musicians that took to the streets wearing devil masks. By enlisting Lima’s sizeable African slave population, this tradition incorporated the rhythms and dance styles that would eventually become known as Afroperuvian, one of the main elements of modern Peruvian music and culture and one that increasingly informs the music of Dengue Dengue Dengue, as was recently portrayed on RBMA’s ‘Afro-Peruvian Beats’ documentary.

This inspiration is especially noticeable on the title track Son De Los Diablos, which incorporates traditional instruments such as the cajita, but also on Buscando, where the duo recorded with members of the Ballumbrosio family, the prominent lineage of musicians and dancers widely regarded as the the premiere ambassadors of Afroperuvian music, dance and culture. As the band explains, this song was “a big step forward”, as it was the first time the duo recorded every rhythmic element with live musicians, giving the track “the flow and cadence only live musicians can achieve”, as well as a vocal sample of one of Peru’s biggest stars Lucha Reyes. The EP continues with Flootz and Cobre, where the pair further explore the unique blend of entrancing South American and African rhythms and melodies that has become their signature sound.

Después de cerrar un ciclo con su proyecto Lulacruza, que nos dejó 5 discos alucinantes y la película Esperando el Tsunami del director Vincent Moon, el productor y multi instrumentista Luis Maurette regresa como Uji.

Mientras se prepara para el lanzamiento de Alborada, su primer LP en solitario bajo el sello argentino ZZK, Uji aceptó la invitación de Diego Gómez para participar en su proyecto Cerrero.  

Uji nos entrega una versión de Cuando canto grito en la que nos muestra el hechizo de su música con un remix que estará disponible para los melómanos desde el hoy en Bandcamp y en las demás plataformas a partir del 18 de este mes.

Con esta nueva remezcla, Cerrero sigue uniendo los puntos de la nueva ola latinoamericana a través de colaboraciones que ya suman a Nicola Cruz, Mitú, la cantante Lucía Pulido, la poeta María Paz Guerrero y la ilustradora colombiana Karolina Bebop.

Luis Maurette, argentinian producer and multi-instrumentalist presents his solo project Uji. Alborada his debut album will be released by ZZK records in June.  Cuando canto grito, Cerrero´s latest single, receives Uji´s treatment  for a version that takes us to the haunted world of Maurette's music.

Dengue Dengue Dengue anticipate the release of their upcoming new album ‘Zenit & Nadir’ with new single 'El Cavilante', a collaboration with vocalist Sara Van and Mikongo where they expand their interest in Afro-Peruvian music, which has led them to meet and record extensively with several members of the Ballumbrosio family, a renowned musical dynasty in Peru that has kept Afro-Peruvian musical traditions alive, masters of rhythms like landó, festejo and crioullo music, with traditional dances and instruments such as the iconic quijada - a rattling percussive instrument made out of a donkey’s jawbone. 

The introduction of live recordings with the Ballumbrosio brothers has given a whole new dimension to their always-expanding sound, and they feature extensively all throughout the album. As they were such an integral part of the recording process it made perfect sense that they would contribute to expand Dengue Dengue Dengue’s memorable audiovisual performance as well, and have began playing live shows together this year. The marriage between the traditional and organic percussion of the Ballumbrosios with DDD’s hypnotic electronic production has created a whole new chapter for the band. 

After debuting in 2012, they established themselves as a driving force in the thriving South American digital cumbia scene, but have since expanded their hybrid approach to music to introduce more references such as kuduro and zouk - and more recently the above mentioned Afro-Peruvian styles - which they fuse with traditional Latin American rhythms to build a sonic identity that is hypnotic and dark, while simultaneously festive and life-affirming. 

With the band being a visual project as much as a musical one, their carefully created aesthetic can be immediately noticed in the iconic masks they wear, often referencing traditional or indigenous elements while being artful and futuristic, a striking visual representation of their approach to music. Their new masks, which are being debuted on their upcoming tour, were handcrafted by Barcelona-based artists Twee Muizen.
