Deniro, real name Reynier, has been working his way onto the collective radar of late with a raft of releases under Tape Records and more recently Nina Kraviz’s трип. You’ll find traces of him everywhere from your favourite DJ’s set to the name ‘Dekmantel’ (he came up with it). His praxis takes dubby and high-tempo form, something analogous to 90s Detroit, conjuring up a flurry of cascading kicks and phantom beeps now second nature. Here, Reynier weaves together only his own hallmark tracks and as yet unreleased works for Bassiani Podcast 113, a spellbinding two-hour mix by one of Holland’s finest acts.

Imagine growing up near Berlin, getting into dance music, going to Berghain for the first time and getting your mind blown by techno. Then, ten years later, you become a resident DJ at the fabled club. Not many people—any people?—can claim this story, but for Fadi Mohem, what would be so many DJs' dreams became a reality. After getting his 2017 debut 12-inch Reckless in the hands of all the right people in Berlin, Mohem established a bold, bouncy techno sound with releases on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler, Ben Klock's Klockworks and FJAAK's SPANDAU20, pretty much the cream of the crop of modern techno.

Now, this year, he's becoming one of Berghain's newest residents, alongside other exciting names like Sedef Adasï and Naty Seres (and Lakuti upstairs at Panorama Bar). As heard on his recent collaborative with Ben Klock, Mohem has modern techno down to a science, thanks to a combination of reverence for the old-school and clever rhythmic touches, like the irresistible snare pattern on "Prefix." His RA Podcast sounds like what you might expect from a new generation of Berghain resident: aerodynamic, heavy and, honestly a little midtempo compared to a lot of other young techno DJs. It's the sound the club has made world-famous, with cuts from Reeko, Heiko Laux and Truncate, plus some special moments from aya, DJ Deeon and Petar Dundov. It takes a certain kind of DJ to get to this hallowed place, and Fadi Mohem deserves it.

Perhaps best-loved for his dynamic take on techno in both his productions and his DJ sets — having been involved and around music for nearly 30 years, @DVS1 is an expert in his field, a true veteran of the scene whose roots extend beyond DJing into grassroots raves and event promotion in his native Minneapolis. 

These days, he continues to push his own limits, getting involved in and starting up projects that fuel his love of music, but also his love of the community he was raised in and helped build. His most recent venture, Aslice, is a software-based platform which proposes a fairer music ecoysystem for DJs and promoters is in its early days, but its concept is bringing up questions for both me and Zak. 

For episode 47, we're exploring the value of art, the definition of success, his own personal perceptions of his worth as an artist.

@boris is kind of a charismatic, multifunctional weapon in the Berlin club life. His musical roots reach back to the mid 80s, when he lived in New York for four years.

After the old OstGut/Panorama Bar closed in 2003, Boris played in almost every club in Berlin, but when the follow up club Berghain opened its doors in 2004, he became to be resident there.

Since rolling his musical sleeves up in 2006, the name Voiski has exponentially grown in renown; his endless quest for new sounds manifested across a number of releases and self-started labels like Silicate and Super 95. Add to that a cosmically ordained taste for collaboration that has seen him join forces with names as diverse as Vril, Antigone and Svengalisghost and you have one of the most prolific and exciting names to have come out of France in the last decade. There’s a touch of classic loop techno, noughties electro and a newfound affection for Persian mysticism in his work, eagerly cross-bred to make his inimitable ‘post-trance’ sound. You’ll get a stem-winding taste of it here: Bassiani Podcast 151 is brazen four-to-the-floor techno spliced with shimmering synths, Voiski at his very prime.

Talismann (@talismannrecords) is the techno alias of the Dutch house artist Makam. Under this name he makes dark, dubby, wormhole techno that is designed for dance floor meditation, and he exclusively serves it up on his own self titled label. The man behind the music stays in the shadows, and while his output is often heavy and doom laden, it is also alluring mysterious and atmospheric in a way that is never too oppressive.

Today we're treated to a special mix filled with up-to-now unreleased tracks from Talismann's forthcoming, multi-part album 'Percussion'. Part 1 lands today on Bandcamp, however, with more to follow later in summer. Hearing all this material together in a mix, as the artist indeed, is a special treat which makes for a perfectly sequenced trip through empty industrial spaces, thronging warehouses and alien planets. It is hugely rhythmic, compelling techno, but is finished with a subtle sense of sound design that makes it as cerebral as it is physical.
