To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Defected Records presents a series of extra special collaborative releases Together, integrating talent from the label’s storied past and the stars of its future. One of the OG Defected House Masters, Dennis Ferrer’s relationship with the iconic London label is checkpointed by a vast number of innovative originals, guiding house through many eras from soul and gospel to Afro and techno. Now renowned as one of the instantly recognisable anthems of modern house and the Defected catalogue, ‘Hey Hey’ receives two Afro house remixes from Jack Back and Da Capo & Kitty Amor. One of electronic music’s most recognisable artists, David Guetta created the Jack Back alias to return to his house roots, releasing the chart-topping Defected hit ‘(It Happens) Sometimes’ in 2018. His remix of Dennis Ferrer’s classic has been widely teased in his sets, including a DJ Mag livestream which resulted in a tidal wave of fan support; now the French titan presents the hotly anticipated ‘Hey Hey’, complete with pitched percussion steering us towards moments of tension and smooth, deep release. Up next on the package, South African producer Da Capo joins forces with a pioneer of the burgeoning UK Afro house scene, Mahaba Music label boss Kitty Amor. Together the pair create an unmissable take on the classic, presenting a brooding ‘Hey Hey’ that unfurls slowly to reveal growling, electronic rhythms that slice through the sound system with tenacity.

As part of the series, a certified house classic from the Defected catalogue, Fish Go Deep’s 2005 anthem ‘The Cure & The Cause’ receives two remixes from Idris Elba and Atmos Blaq. After his 2020 Defected debut in collaboration with Inner City, ‘No More Looking Back’, British icon, DJ and actor Idris Elba’s relationship with the label continues to grow since headlining their highly anticipated The Warehouse Project show and Defected’s Miami Music Week showcase in 2023. Now the global A-lister steps up to remix a Defected classic nearly two decades after its original release, Fish Go Deep’s ‘The Cure & The Cause’ features percussive subtleties and instrumental flourishes that seem to ebb and flow around Tracey K’s soulful vocals; Elba takes these celebrated elements and adds a significant Afro electronic flair, with powerful drums and expansive synths building tension to create a defining club cut for the ages. Purobeach is a global chain of beach clubs with a number of beautiful seaside locations worldwide. The story originally began in Palma de Mallorca, from where the brand began to expand it's operations, now in 2016 they maintain locations in Dubai, Portugal as well as a number of clubs throughout Spain. The Puro group also curates it's own record label, Puro Music, producing a series of trusted Mix CD compilations available for hard-copy purchase at the venues as well as being for sale in digital form online, allowing patrons to take home the sounds of the DJs and artists who perform at Purobeach events. The summer CD mix series has become a long-awaited arrival each year, capturing the essential vibe of the season's best deep and soulful house music. The most recent series "Purobeach : The Global Adventure" is now in it's second season, and this year's mixes are surely the most exciting yet, showing the label's unmatched for quality deep music selections throughout the 2 continuous mix CDs and the added bonus USB stick. 

The first CD was mixed and compiled by Puro sound manager Sebas Ramis, a multi-talented DJ/producer who has worked in radio, festival production, and currently produces the Tutsi Girl Play House and Luv Machines projects, in addition to DJing regularly in the Palma Puro locations. Throughout the one hour mix, the Mallorca native captures the essence of 2016's best soulful house sounds, from the afro-house vibes of Manoo and N'Dinga Gaba, to the modern deep sounds of Life On Planets and MAQman, it's a beautiful session that takes us on a heartfelt Balearic journey into the sun-soaked feeling of Purobeach 2016. The 12 tracks are filled with the memorable vocals you'll be sure to hear echoing off the crystal clear waters all year long, bringing the listener to a moment of pure relaxation.

The second disc is mixed by two of the Purobeach Marbella resident DJs, Marcos Cruz and Kike Aguilar. It's a Pool Side session that succeeds in capturing the emotion of the sun setting, combining deep electronic rhythms with funky grooves and dancey house beats. Originally hailing from Sevilla, Cruz regularly tours as a DJ throughout Europe in addition to working as a record label A&R, and it's no wonder why his collaborative mix with weekly resident Kike Aguilar is so fluid and mature in it's selections, which also include a couple of of Cruz's own tracks. In contrast to the first disc's airy and laid back feeling, the second mix takes a more serious tone, warming up the listener to a night of enjoyment, with excellent tracks like the Benjamin Fröhlich remix of Panthera Krause's "If" and the Dub-o-matic version of Aki Bergen's "Fever featuring Carmen Sherry."

Perhaps the most exciting element of the Purobeach : The Global Advnture is the exclusive bonus USB stick, which includes a new 5 track mini-album from the new Tutsi Girl Play House band, produced by Sebas Ramis, which is not yet available for purchase anywhere else. The group also features German Keyboardist Sebastian Motz and superstar Ruandan songstress Tesiree Priti, with the trio having made their first appearance together in Puro Hotel's Habitacion 12 event this spring. Now that they've recorded their first release which will be available on Puro Music this summer, the lucky fans of the Puro music culture will be treated to this special add on, with the hit song Body & Soul as well as 4 other songs such as Faith, and Cupid's Arrow, all packed into the mobile listening format of a USB drive.

Ahead of the release of Honey Dijon’s upcoming remix album ‘Xtra’, Rampa, Derrick Carter and Harry Romero step up to remix records from Honey’s debut full-length work ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’. First up Rampa revisits Honey & Tim K’s ‘Thunda’, the darkly rolling jewel in the crown of Honey’s debut full-length work ‘The Best Of Both Worlds’. The Keinemusik head goes deep, drawing out the hypnotic frequencies of the Honey & Tim collab. Catching a profound after-dark vibe, John Mendelsohn’s vocal takes on a dreamy, barely-there, quality accenting the lushness of Rampa’s production. Right place, right time. It's an old cliché, but it's one that's been the definition of Dennis Ferrer's musical career. Just as the dance music world was heading into the world of afro-centric house, Ferrer was there. And then, when it began to embrace the mix of tech and soul, Ferrer was there again, leading the way with his impeccable productions. As Ferrer goes, it seems, so does electronic music. And, as someone who's never content to do the same thing twice, it's clear that he'll be staying on top for years to come.

Ferrer burst back into the consciousness of most dance music heads with the release of "Sandcastles," (Ibadan) his collaboration with Jerome Sydenham in 2003. But, to his credit, Ferrer didn't simply repeat the formula afterwards. He has continued to push a variety of genres all at once. It's clear that Ferrer isn't content to rest on his laurels: he's too busy dreaming up new ways to shock and delight audiences.

In the mid-90’s, Ferrer was crafting techno records as Morph and then had success in the Afro and gospel house scenes with releases via his Sfere label, an imprint he began alongside Kerri Chandler. But it's this past work that gives his new productions such resonance: unlike many of this house peers, Ferrer's techno experience has given him an edge that you can hear in his recent work.

Ferrer has brought his ‘anything goes’ approach to his label, Objektivity.  Celebrating its 8th anniversary in 2014, the imprint has thus far focused itself on vocals, featuring often unlikely turns from indie heroes like Ane Brun and Télépopmusik. Low slung and deep, Objektivity is a cutting-edge label in touch with its time, putting a uniquely American spin on the deep house revival that is currently making waves in Europe. Objektivity is a living, breathing thing - one that's set to drop bombs on the dance floor for years to come.

While Ferrer closes out 2013 with “Mind Ur Step” (Defected), “Mind Ur Dub” (Objektivity) and a remix of Coyu - “Salvation” (Noir Music), the best is yet to come. With a deep knowledge of the past and a constant push for the future, Ferrer remains one of the true greats of house music - a leader and innovator whose enjoying the buzz around him but keeping on pushing the limits.
