Hauswerks - Visions

Nick Curly offers up the two-track 'Come Right Back' EP via his and Marc Scholl's Cécille Records at the end of March. Mannheim, Germany's Nick Curly has been at the forefront of the underground House scene for two decades now, initially making his mark with his and Gorge's 8bit imprint which is notably known for shaping the distinctive sound of Mannheim's House Music output. Curly has since gone on to release on the likes of Knee Deep In Sound, Truesoul, Defected, Cocoon and of course Cécille where he makes a welcome return here with this new material. Title cut 'Come Right Back' leads and sees Nick lay down his signature swinging drum groove intertwined with a filtered disco loop, bumpy bass line and choppy stab sequences to create a dance floor focused six and a half minute workout. 'Arkum' then shifts into deeper and darked realms, merging organic percussion and gritty bass stabs with tension building strings and spoken word vocals chops to once again create a loop driven, subtly unfurling peak time tool.

All four tracks on the EP are chock full with sonic resonance, monstrous bass-lines, shaking hats, warped melodies, tripped out FX and infectious vocal hooks, all already causing some serious damage on dance-floors. Jey Kurmis is a Leeds based producer who has been DJing all over the UK for almost a decade and producing for around seven years. From his first release on Phobic Records to this artist defining EP for Hot Creations last year, Jey has been honing his craft with support from some of the biggest names in the game including Heidi, Jamie Jones, Richy Ahmed and wAFF.

A firm favourite in the Hot Creations camp, Jey Kurmis is back on board the label following his recent ‘Kari EP’ with another killer release in the form of the ‘Not Too Flabbeh’ EP. The release features two-standout originals, with a heavy duty re-edit of a third original from label boss Jamie Jones.

'Not too Flabbeh' features Belgium producers Nukov & Yelmet, creating a bona fide ‘hit!’ complete with tongue in cheek, catchy vocals, rolling bass, and infectious groove, it’s a winner! Jamie Jones steps up again, this time to do a reedit of 'Farno, a four to the floor edgy killer. Last up is ‘Monkle’ with its tripped vocals and old school stabs!

Having honed his production skills for seven years, Jey Kurmis is really starting to see the fruits of his labour. His career has steadily been on the rise from his first release on Phobic Records to his artist defining EP for Hot Creations last year, and particularly since he joined the NGE Agency. 2016 has been yet another great year for UK artist Jey Kurmis with releases and remixes on the likes of Hot Creations, Moon Harbour, Leftroom and Viva and now closes out the year with a release for Kaluki Musik. Amongst a steady stream of releases via some of contemporary house music’s most revered imprints, this year also saw Kurmis play DC10 for Paradise and shows during Sonar Barcelona, Amsterdam Dance Event and many more showcasing Jey’s current prominence.
Across the ‘Banx’ EP Jey Kurmis delivers his typically frenzied house style and the title-cut takes the lead with an amalgamation of processed vocal lines, a snaking bass groove, sporadic snare rolls and tension building pad sequences. ‘Margot’ follows and employs stripped-back percussion alongside short bass licks, choppy vocal layers and resonant synth whirrs to create a heady hypnotic workout.
The third and final original from Kurmis comes next, entitled ‘Peachey’ and retaining a similarly robust, sparse rhythmic drive while soft synth stabs and vocal murmurs ebb and flow throughout the groove. Recent beatport chart toppers and residents of the Kaluki events Solardo then close out the package, turning in a more direct dance-floor focused interpretation, extracting snippets from the original number and layering them alongside their own raw rhythmic style.
