🥟 The full story of my first gig, and WOW… what a mess I'll never forget 😂

It all started when a DJ friend told me my SoundCloud mixes were actually getting good, like "You should play in front of people now"…
I was proud of my last recorded mix, so I did the most logical thing ever:
I signed up for an open deck slot at a rave… the very next weekend 😅

● D-3

Got my slot: 4pm to 5pm. I was thrilled.
Crafted a 1-hour set. Picked my fave tracks.
Practiced transitions. Beatmatched like a maniac on my baby DDJ-FLX4 🥵
Ran the set more than 10 times. Locked in. Felt ready.
Well… almost.

● D-2

Had a sketchy USB and thought "What if it fails on D-Day?"
So I panic-bought a fancy one: $50 USD gone 💸

● D-1

They said the gear would be CDJ-900NXS.
I Googled it and studied it like it was my final exam:
"That button is this button… okay, nailed it" ✅

Plot twist: CDJ-900NXS doesn't have Hot Cues (thanked my Anthony2 for that tip 😘).
And guess who built his entire set around Hot Cues? 🫠
So I spent hours converting everything to Memory Cues like some over-caffeinated data monkey. Me & Rekordbox = trauma bonded 💔

● D-DAY – aka pure chaos

Did I sleep? Nope
Did I panic? Absolutely

At 4am, I remembered: all my tracks were YouTube rips 😬
So I bought them all (RIP wallet) on Beatport at high quality and rebuilt all the cues AGAIN.

● 3PM

Barely slept, in a taxi now, USB in hand, heart racing, brain buffering…
Ping. Message: "Your slot is cancelled. The venue's not ready" 💀x2

Nope. I go anyway. I beg them in person:
"It's my first gig please I trained so hard blabla…"

They finally say: "You'll play at 10pm... B2B with DJ Kofi Beam"
Me: Great, I don't know how to B2B and my cues are useless now… 💀x3
So ask them to play solo: "Fine, 30 min only"
Iconic 😅

● 4PM

I rush home. Make a new 30-min set.
Buy more tracks (seriously 💸), re-cue, re-practice.
Run it NONSTOP until 8pm, train train train.
Let's. Freaking. Go.

● 9PM

Back at the rave. I ask DJ Kofi Beam for a quick tour. All good.
Then he hits me with: "Where are your headphones?"
Me: 😶

I didn't know I needed to bring them… Such a noob 🫠
Thankfully we found some!

● 9:30PM

Plug in the USB… and BOOM: exFAT format not supported on CDJ-900NXS 🙃
Me: Panic.EXE

Someone hands me a laptop. I transfer everything to a FAT32 USB.
🙏 Memory Cues, don't die on me now please!

● 10PM

Still transferring… Kofi Beam plays instead. Afro House masterclass 🔥
Then: BLACKOUT ⚡ Electrical system dies!
Tech crew rushes in. Fixes it…

10 minutes later: ANOTHER BLACKOUT!
At this point I’m like: "Universe? You tryna tell me something?"

● 11PM

Power’s back. Kofi Beam looks at me: "Your turn, are you ready?"

My mouth: "Yes"
My soul: 😱
My brain: ❌
My hands: 💦

I load the first track… and… blank. Full brain crash!
He does the first transition for me 😅

● 11:10PM

It's finally happening. I'm now live. In front of people.
Playing on gear I only know on Google Image, with someone else's headphones, someone else's USB… All good!

It's pitch dark. I literally use my phone flashlight to find the buttons 😵‍💫
The headphones basically spit in my ears, couldn’t hear a thing…
No dual waveform = no visual beatmatching. Baby DJ 🍼 has to do it all by ear!
My transitions? Let's just say… blessed by chaos 💀

After only 3 tracks, the organizer taps my shoulder: "2 more tracks and you’re done"
Cool cool cool. I just wanna cry, hug my friends, and dissolve into the night…

Set ends. I do exactly that.
My friends hugged me and said they were proud of me!
And honestly? That's all that mattered 🥰

Born in 1984, started DJing in the age of 16 with inexpensive second hand turntables and first releases of DJ CD Players with no spinning wheel - just knobs for pitching plus/minus.(who else remembers?)
In 2003 & 2004 I was happy to release two Double CDs with the Name of ‚Progressive Interpretation‘ on Supra Recordings who had an engangement with Armada back in the days. My biggest gigs back in the days have been on Nature One Festival in Germany and Love Parade in Berlin (Wagon).
After that period in a still very young Age I decided to step back to focus on Job opportunities in the forwarding industry and 
became a proud father. 
But my heart was still stuck into Music all the time and DJing never really left me. I recorded my favourites tunes in several Mixed all the years who are still reachable in my SoundCloud Library.
All i’ve ever wanted is what I am doing right now doing on Ibiza Stardust Radio: playing Music for the people and trying to drive with you on my ride through a story of sound.
