Multi instrumentalist and deep house master producer Lars Bartkuhn returns to Alex Bradleys Utopia Records, a label whose ambition is to find harmony and balance through sound, design and experience. Fusing organic sounds with electronic soundscapes Bartkuhn’s 10-minute pathway to the African plains does exactly that, An ode to the ’Massai’ takes the listener and dancer on a journey of real depth and positive spirit. With it’s musicality (Bartkuhn on bass, drums, guitar, vocals, piano and synthesizer) complex arrangement and phrasing, ‘Massai' is a timeless and personal statement from Bartkuhn as he seeks the essence of what dance music in 2017 could be, a movement away from relative beats and to a more advance and spiritual sound that has been a mainstay in his compositions.
 
Garnering support from the likes of Hunee, MCDE, Ron Trent, Jeremy Underground Paris, Volcov, Bicep and a host of taste makers, Bartkuhn's back on the European music scene after years away in Brazil working on Jazz compositions which only saw the light of day in Japan. Having already lit up Berlin's Panorama Bar for Tamo Sumo and Lakuti with his inspiring live show (that features him on Guitar, vocals, synthesizer and drums) Bartkuhn is set to tour Europe in 2017 with his music more relevant on dance-floors than ever.

Bana’s compositions display layer after layer of colourful enigmatic veils, hinting at an inner core of darkness whilst remaining playful and intuitive. Her ideas expand over the length of this LP, and beyond that, further into our minds and bodies with the reverberations of her sounds.

A small group of people are sailing near coast on a wooden, creaking boat, its wheelhouse lit by a flickering lantern that provides a spot of warm colored light. Trying to make it ashore and indoors before the storm arrives.

Rudiments of A Spiritual Life (Ambient)

Transcendental Movements Vol. 1 marks the beginning of a new full-length ambient series, curated by IDO founder Valentino Mora. 

Since the age of 14, Mora has been searching for alternative tools to relieve anxiety. In 2016, he discovered the music of Marow and Olaf Tonstein and found that through listening to this particular music he was able to access a new state of meditation. This began the journey of researching the technique he calls ‘active mediation’.  

When he discovered that a lot of Marow and Olaf Tonstein’s music from 2009 had never been released on vinyl, he knew he needed to release it one day. In their work, Mora identified a feeling pertinent to the concept of the label, one that exemplified the connection between minimal/ambient/glitch and IDO’s ambient house sound.

From there he reached out to other artists that he felt could relate to this idea, and asked them to contribute a track in response to the concept.  The resulting compilation varies in tempo and technique, illustrating each artist’s idiosyncrasies, yet as a whole it forms a cohesive and potent statement.

Active meditation differs from regular stationary meditation through the focusing of one’s attention on sound whilst in motion — the form this motion takes is personal. The goal of active meditation is to transcend one’s awareness of motion — in fact, the awareness of being in a body — and to become absorbed entirely in the sound. Mora found that this process has the potential to ease anxiety as all conscious thought is alleviated through concentrated focus on music. 

For the cover artwork, Mora selected a painting from visual artist Raphael Lecoquierre, in which the movement, airiness and minimalism elicits a profound sense of calm. Mora also invited writer and artist, Lou Drago, to interpret the concept in words. Their text, Suspending Reality, features on the inside of the gatefold cover.

Ultimae proudly presents "Hereafter", a collection of past and present works by Mihalis Aikaterinis aka MIKTEK to which the Greek composer desired to give a second breath and offer a new dive into his deep musical world. All tracks were carefully chosen, revisited, reedited, recorded live, remastered and assembled with two unreleased ones to create a smooth melancholic journey.

Washed out blissful pads and slow idm rhythms are to be expected as the foundation of this release. From the warm ambient vibe of Dawsonia to the dubbed out landscapes of Omniprescence and the glitchy rhythms of Atmosphere of Neglect, Mihalis cruises through multiple electronic territories while keeping a coherent sound along the way. 

Sometimes reassuring, sometimes dark, but always captivating, these pieces feel like a never ending ascent to the lights above.
During the troubled times we're experimenting, "Hereafter" resonates with a touching singularity. While the title might evoke dismal images, what we hear is an invitation to look farther than anything else, farther than our present times, to journey to clearer skies and quieter waters.

Koresma & edapollo introduce the first song ‘Paint the Sky’ from their upcoming two track EP. The song came about in early 2020 when the world was starting to experience the first Covid - 19 lockdowns. Ironically, the collab couldn’t have come around at a better time since the producers were under quarantine in Los Angeles (Koresma) and Melbourne, Australia (edapollo). As the year progressed, both producers also found themselves in close proximity to some detrimental fires that wreaked havoc for several months.

Naturally all this external influence came as a strong motivator to create some positive music that reflects on the past events as well as how our actions can impact the future of our environment. To push this further, both producers will be splitting the Bandcamp revenue for the first month of sales between two charities supporting fire relief in Australia and California. The charities are:

The first single “Paint the Sky” showcases both producers' abilities to make groovy downtempo electronica, with lush layers of synths, guitars and vocal chops creating an atmosphere to easily lose yourself in. Proceeds from the first week of Bandcamp sales will be donated to fire relief charities in Australia and California.
