NEW YORK, NEW YORK JANUARY 7, 2014 – Denzil Porter rolls up his sleeves and looks “The Other Side” square in the eye on his newest track featuring WreckHouse comrade Swerve Mitch. “The Other Side” is produced by Lavish out of Brooklyn, whose previous work includes “Super Cool” for Troy Ave and production work for Bodega Bamz.

“The Other Side” evokes the gritty battle arena that transcends from the early roots of hip hop. It draws in listeners, as Denzil Porter and Swerve Mitch spectate, head-bobbing, waiting for the next move.

“Alright now I don’t give a damn what the other side say, the other side, the other side, that’s where the other side stay. And tell the other side that the other side said, if they fuck with my side, then the other side dead”

Bar by bar, Denzil menacingly edges the other side on, standing firmly and amused while providing story snapshots of his awareness of how the other side functions. Swerve Mitch steps up and complements the track with his own unique flow, putting another spin to the concept of the “other side”.

Rapper Denzil Porter releases his newest hit, "Haymaker", the third single off his newest project.  The track features Bronx rapper Connie Diamond and was produced by Yung Fatz.

"Haymaker", literally meaning a powerful punch thrown to knock out an opponent, is a song Denzil and Connie used to show off their metaphorical skills when making punchline records.  By throwing punchlines back to back while creating an undeniable flow of word play at the same time, "Haymaker" shows off the lyrical side of both artists.

"Once Connie and I heard the beat," Denzil says, "We started writing.  It was automatic, we knew what we had to do, create a song, bar for bar like a boxing match". "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" was inspired by Robert Stevenson's 1886 novel, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde". Just like the story, the song is a collaboration, introducing the both sides of Denzil Porter. With the mask on, Denzil represents Dr. Jekyll; conservative and mysterious. When Denzil removes his mask, he channels Mr. Hyde; unleashing the beast he really is.

The video, avant-garde in its creativity, was produced with very few props and only one camera. The simplicity of the video was to not distract viewers from the complex lyrics and jam-packed punch lines; a true feast to the ears. Through "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", Denzil Porter sends the message that no matter who you are now or who you become in the future, you must never let anyone hold back who you truly are, no matter how many personalities that may include.

Is being an asshole a natural thing?

BRONX, NEW YORK SEPTEMBER 27, 2011 -- Rapper Denzil Porter releases his newest single "Kanye West" off his upcoming project Home Made Music. "Kanye West", produced by Mark XLnce, was inspired by the stereotypical New York City resident. New Yorkers: hardworking, tough and outspoken are often viewed to those outside of the city as just plain assholes. Denzil explains, "I feel like it's just in our blood to do what we do and say what we say when we want to. Although we look at it as how we live, outsiders look at is as rude and obnoxious".

After adding some witty lyrics inspired by real life events, Denzil Porter knew he needed a chorus that the crowd could chant when performed live like "Haymaker", but a lot more comical like the song's storyline. When asked why not just name the song "Asshole", Denzil responds, "The title was selected because I wanted to use the most famous asshole that accepts his role as an asshole as much as the rest of us do. No diss intended".

Since the song was debuted in Canada when Denzil Porter opened up for Kendrick Lamar, the demand for a video and the song's release were high. The video, directed by Ulysses Adams and Fiona Amara stars Wreckhouse members being assholes in different ways. This ranges from stealing candy from a little girl to beating up a homeless man. The visuals were easily laid out in the song.

Though the word "asshole" has such a negative connotation, the song is meant to be funny and embraced by New Yorkers and assholes all over. Laughing, Denzil Porter concludes, "I'm pretty flattered when people call me an asshole nowadays".
