Division - a mathematical operation that breaks a unit down into parts. The „Division EP“ is a shared record by Spanish duo Depaart and Atlanta native Mister Sweatband, each of whom contributed two tracks. Even though the idea might initially suggest two opposing sides, they are two parts of a union, like the numerator and denominator of a fraction. 
Mister Sweatband opens the record with „Leotard“ and „Eyes“, both of which have a strong retro-aesthetic, thick bass lines and catchy vocals. Then follow Depaart with „Take The Love Now“ and „Le Tour“, which take the record down a clubbier anabranch of the same river, with its melodic arpeggios and driving percussions.

Infamous Spanish duo Depaart (Guille Marraco & Fran Zaragoza) is back on the shelves in all digital platforms since Friday 22nd of April with the awaited second half of their splitted album Quam Crédula Minima Postero ‘QMCP Pt.2‘. Part 1 was released last Spring as an ode to dance music vs. an incipient lower energy style on music releases due to the Pandemic and the lack of dance floors. Conceptually designed to make you dance, even in the worst possible context. ‘QMCP pt.2’ comes, once again, with 4 original tracks following the same spirit of the previous half. The missing slice of bread on top of your sandwich, pretty much.

Madrid’s Depaart return to Exploited following their excellent 2021 release Julian (with its hot Bawrut remix), and they’ve come up with the goods once again. With other releases on Diynamic, Sasha’ Last Night On Earth and increasingly their own self-titled label, they are definitely ones to watch.

Blending elements of electro, techno and Italo into one colourful pot, ‘Blitergliter’ is an understated anthem of a track that builds and builds to a spectacular zenith. Beginning unassumingly with a filtered chord stab pattern, a zesty bassline soon buzzes in atop a simple but punchy drum groove. The bass melody unfolds as splashy techno cymbal rides propel the track and a cutesy 8-bit synth line meanders in the background. Bitcrushed, sustained organ chords frazzle the first breakdown as an arpeggiated melody dances below, all the while the energy building. 

Next comes a sweltering acid line, squelching and freaking incessantly as the track threatens to reach fever pitch. The rug is pulled from under us as the 303 emulation segues into a stripped-back section where the track catches its breath, leading into the main break where dainty chimes tease the main melody while the acid and organs interplay with rippling snare fills. The chimes and bassline unite joyously at the drop, capped off with a heavenly synth line, and finally another distorted acid line towards the end of the track to add another dramatic touch as the brooding bass tones swell.

Madrid duo Depaart return to Exploited Club with a trio of slick, acidic cuts with a real air of sophistication about them.
‘And You’ juxtaposes phat bottom end with twinkling acid resonance, dreamy pads and a bold ‘80s synth motif that shimmers with crystalline edges. Dashes of counter melody ring out through lush poly synths as the arrangement ebbs and flows effortlessly. Trippy touches and a dreamlike edge to this brilliantly contrasting piece of work.
‘Buzzline’ rocks an ‘80s electro breakbeat, with a fittingly sparse arrangement that has its roots in Kraftwerkian bleepage. Sonorous bass reaches the parts other low ends can’t as a wiggling 303 melody bubbles up. An 8-bit hook is pushed into the distance with a tight reverb, providing a nice contrast to the drier percussion. The different elements all interweave in perfect lockstep, evolving harmoniously in unison to create a highly atmospheric workout.
Plump analog bass pulses underpin ‘Ufo Trip’, giving warehouse vibes as trippy ringshifting and delaying sends shards of frequencies shimmering around your head. Flecks of guitar cut against the electronic tones gently, and percussion and pads are sparingly used to build a subtle tension.

With releases on labels like Diynamic & Last Night On Earth, Spanish label-turned-party-turned-production-team Depaart arrive on Exploited Ghetto for the first time with some impressive pedigree.
‘Julian’ is a typically engrossing affair from this talented duo, fusing their house leanings with a heavy nod to ‘80s synth pop. Heavily reverbered drum hits and haunting atmospheres kick the track off in tandem with a nagging synth arpeggio which slowly filters into focus. A pitch-rising synth whirr signals the intensity is about to hit, and in slams a wiggling bass pulse, matching the melody of the synth in pleasingly juicy fashion. Delicate chime notes flit across the stereo field and next a counter melody cuts through the mix, teasing us with its brief appearance. 
The dreamy breakdown comes across like a classic ‘90s ambient record, with a heavily disguised wind instrument sampled and replayed deep in the mix to add a hypnotic, indigenous feel. The track builds up unhurriedly from this moment of calm, the drum hits sounding huge when given more room to breathe. The pay-off is hugely rewarding as an octave-leaping riff slices through as the track drops. Another mini-break brings more tension, and gated synths stutter an old skool feel into the final section.

Depaart - the producers are Guille Marraco and Fran Zaragoza, but they form part of a bigger collective who throw parties in Spain and release music on their own label. 2018 saw them relaunch their production offering, and the output continues to be hugely impressive.
