Never 2 Much

Just One Touch has been a long time coming but it emerges as a classic ode to house past and present. Porto based producer Social Disco Club was sat on the track for two years before Miss Bee added her dusky vocals. Frayed and taught with emotion, her voice works in harmony with the gritty analogue sounds that drive the track.

Where the original demands attention, the instrumental version shows a more subtle route to the floor. Tucked away on the b2, the absence of the full vocal allows the weighty drums and Detroit influences to come to the fore. With space to breathe the elements of the track begin to shine; restrained pads become expansive and the gurgling bass line rises to the fore.

On remix duty are Parisian duo The Mekanism and Melbourne’s man of the moment Francis Inferno Orchestra. The French pair weigh in with an upfront interpretation, working in some modern bounce to the feel good 90s vibe of the original.

Where The Mekanism straighten out Just One Touch to create a smooth, effective DJ tool, Francis Inferno shakes things up, adding an element of chaos with his Piano Jam remix. Unhinged keys frequently break through spacey atmospherics, falling away to place emphasis on drums that beat assertively between house and techno.

Under The Shade confidently cover all the bases here, with a standout original and reworkings from a pair of fast-rising young production outfits able to deconstruct the influences poured into their sources.

It’s been little over a year that we had a Deetron release on Music Man (his Depth Frame collab with Ripperton), but that doesn’t mean our fav Swiss was being lazy – at all. He became a proud dad, started his own club night in Bern, released big tracks on Rejected, Green and Circus Company and did remixes for Gerd, Romanthony, Joey Negro, Kraak &amp; Smaak, Vakula and Ben Westbeech just to name a few. Now we’re proud to be able to present to you ‘Crave’, the first single of Deetron’s forthcoming album on Music Man, featuring Hercules &amp; Love Affair. On remix duties are Jamie Jones (Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations) and Ripperton. Furthermore in the package you’ll find an instrumental version, and the ‘cRAVE Dub’, a full on techno rework of the original.

“(I Hate The Sound Of) Guitars”, Xinobi’s new single is, above all, an under-covered uplifting song. Mike Gamwell, better known as Knightlife, is a mysterious beat-maker hailing from Melbourne, Australia where the back-alleys and laneways have seasoned his inimitable sound. 

With career beginnings in the midst of the disco revival, Knightlife cut his teeth as a remixer claiming an impressive collection of scalps early on including Midnight Juggernauts, Bag Raiders and The Swiss. In 2007, he caught the attention of dance music luminaries Cut Copy who subsequently signed him to their cult Cutters Records imprint. 

A series of four EP's was to follow, all of which drew critical praise among the blogging elite and in the case of 2011's 'Serve You Right' taste-making Australian radio station triple j: 
 
"Australia's disco swordsman, has jumped back on the horse (zing) and is back doing what he does best... making disco gems from the future!"

In 2012, Knightlife returns crafting songs that cater to the chaos of the club and the laziness of the lounge room, producing music that's intelligent but never takes itself too seriously. Drawing on influences from ELO to Giorgio Moroder and The Human League, he presents himself as a knight in shining armour for a unifying dance-pop resurgence.
 
'Without Love' is the first sample of Knightlife's debut LP (due 2013) featuring vocals from his equally mysterious, serial collaborator known simply as ‘AP’. Synthier and more eclectic than you may remember him, this is classic Knightlife with a fresh lemony twist.

Feed Me & Crystal Fighters - Love Is All I Got

Miss Bee's been having an amazing year, working with some of the best producers around. We're proud to have her newest release coming in the next few weeks. A while back she dropped off this song looking for some production collaboration. Lou jumped at the chance to bring some sunny Caribbean vibes. We think the combo is perfect and we hope you do to.  Also include on the release is an alternate take from Lou, going in a darker more electro-pop direction, a disco burner from label staple JKriv, a smooth analog groove from Eddie Mars, and a beautiful excursion from Mexican new-comer Bronx. We'd love to have your feedback. Enjoy.

To accompany this release we also have a very limited edition of 20 prints by Generatto, the artists who created the album art.  It's is a four color silkscreen printed on 12x12" heavy stock paper. With two upcoming singles on the label before his ‘Sounds like Alola compilation’ in 2013, alongside Mr C and Omid 16B who are up next , it’s fair to say the Alola camp are quite taken with Amine’s sound. First getting in touch with the label in 2009, label boss Omid 16B describes his direct and enthusiastic approach as “all about the music” adding “he kept sending me stuff which kept getting better and better . His music was very much on my tip, bridging the gap between the older methods and the new whilst getting his message out there."

‘Yeah’ is a funked-up deep track with a distinct smokey edge to it, perfect for both setting the vibe early in the night or one that will slot into any rolling journey. Making use of spliced up vocals and combining them with a sonic fusion of string instruments and jazz infused melodies, Amine brings it all together with his skilled production.

Omid's edit provides a driven DJ tool, ready to be dropped at just the right moment ...in and out !
