The inimitable Seth Troxler is next up on his own influential label with something of a milestone release: His ‘Finally Physical EP’ is a precursor to a compilation album, ‘This Is Then’, due in May this year.

“I am about to embark on a new musical phase of my career and I wanted to make a retrospective of what's already happened whilst pointing to what's next. I'm so proud of the seminal tracks I’ve released to date, but I am very much looking forward to the new musical projects that will spawn act two in this play we call life.” due in May this year.

‘This Is Then’ will be a typically unique celebration of Seth’s 10 years as a major force in the Europe underground scene. It will draw a line in the sand on the first part of the Michigan born artist’s recording career before he embarks on the next chapter. This preceding EP features four productions that were never properly released and they serve as a taster to the forthcoming compilation, with two originals and two remixes, one of which comes under Seth’s lesser used alias, Thrill Cosby.

This is a deeply personal project for Seth and comes at an exciting juncture in his musical journey, as he says himself “I am about to embark on a new musical phase of my career and I wanted to make a retrospective of what's already happened whilst pointing to what's next. I'm so proud of the seminal tracks I’ve released to date, but I am very much looking forward to the new musical projects that will spawn act two in this play we call life."

Up first is the brilliant ‘Blackclap’, which was used by Audion on his fabric mix in 2006. It’s a twisted techno bumper with hiccuping synths and skewed pads bleeding out from a tightly programmed drum line. Warm chord smears bring a sense of soul to the druggy groove and ensure this one will work as well in an intimate club as it would on a larger stage. The deliciously dark ‘Aggression’ is a freaky late-night cut with minimal drums and alien lifeforms scurrying all over. It’s trippy and otherworldy, with a rubbery groove carrying you deeper down the rabbit hole through a wonderfully weird spectrum of sound.

On the flip is a Thrill Cosby remix of Heartthrob’s ‘Signs’ which Seth included on his Boogybytes mix from 2010. A pressure cooker of white noise, whispers, synth drones and tension building sequences it eventually breaks into a supple and slippery groove that makes you want to pop your body. Last but not least is the skeletal techno funk of Stefan Tretau’s ‘Chittagong’ (Seth Troxler Jack Moves Remix). It’s synthetic and abstract, with watery droplets and coarse claps wrapping round the restless drum line.

Inventive and original throughout, these four blistering tracks prove Seth Troxler has always had his own unique studio sound and serve as a great teaser for the upcoming compilation.

"Everything was better in the old days" has always been questionable. Music-wise we have seen major developments across the genres from the eighties until today. One track that defnitely ruled the clubs in the early years was Transform's "Transformation". Justifably considered an absolute cult hit, it seemed reasonable to see if a contemporary remix of such a classic could turn today's dancefoors upside down just as well as original did in the past. And hear for yourselves, it can! 
The original with its raw, puristic and light-footed vibe, spiced up with a hypnotic acid line and topped off with its famous vocal snippet that burned itself into the minds of millions of ravers in the glorious 90s, can certainly be labeled "timeless". Consequently the choice of remixer could hardly been more suitable with a guy who is responsible for a number of timeless classics such as "Hale Bopp" and "Electric Friends" himself. We are talking about "Der Dritte Raum" of course. 
Andreas Krueger aka "Der Dritte Raum" takes "Transformation" into the 21st century in the tried and tested way that we've always known and respected this gentleman for: hypnotic, driving and incredibly sophisticated. This remix honors the original and promises to become a hit itself. We are excited for this overdue comeback. Welcome to the future.

Legends of the scene Marmion return with remixes of ‚Schöneberg‘ - one of their most famous tracks originally released in 1994. The track has been reworked by many artists over the years, but this release pulls together two versions from equally iconic German rave royalty - 2raumwohnung and Der Dritte Raum. 

2raumwohnung, the Berliner electro-pop duo who formed in 2000, add their own distinctive swing to ‚Schöneberg‘ - adding layers of melody and deepening the groove of the track. Retaining the original’s verve, the remix builds and builds until total immersion in the groove is the only possibility.  

Andreas Krüger (aka Der Dritte Raum) has also been producing and releasing tracks since the early 90s, and his reinterpretation of Marmion’s hit is highly respectful. The track is a result of the years of honing skills behind the mixing desk - a beautifully constructed ode to one of the anthems of rave culture.

Fresh names to Visionquest, but certainly not new to the game; More Than Material is the promising new project between two bonafide French selector statesmen who collectively boast decades of dancefloor and studio science: Jedsa Soundorom and Gauthier DM. Launching their new alias earlier this year on Zingiber Audio, their signature has been tangible from the off; deep weighted grooves, warm dynamics and total immersion.

'Intimate' says it all; realising its title's close connotations with a dubby, physical groove and a rollcall of soul rolling elements, it's the sound of a crowd locking in en- mass. Low ceiling, heads down, lights low. 'Godsa' follows with similar moody momentum and another hypnotic weave. This time over much more of a stately techno noir soundscape as its persistent jack is laced with subtle acid details. Next, we hit 'Doctor High', an ageless deep house groove peppered with nuances of uplift, trippiness and a drum arrangement that taps deep into the foundations. Once again, the track relives its title's implications.

Finally, we sign out with a precision revision from Fuse resident Archie Hamilton who refixes the pace and density of 'Doctor High' with more of a driving peaktime aesthetic that remains fully respectful of the original's weight and clarity. More Than Material by nature, spirit and name.
