A Full Moon can be both a blessing and a challenge!
Exactly as the creation of this set was for me…

After a long time being away from the process of curating and recording a musical storytelling, plus the challenge to include an original recorded song (which I did not have and I had to create), makes this set extra special to my heart.

Listening and feeling deeply about the intention and wish of my friend Buket Polat to create an inward journey to support a ceremonial act to follow her newest creation of a Full Moon Ritual Kit, as well as my own intuition and taste of what I would like to hear while performing such a ritual, I came up with music that resembles the different elemental stages of the ritual and it is intentionally crafted to connect the listener with his/her deeper and unseen side.

Placing the heart space, at last, I have exclusively recorded a love song, which communicates a real and personal experience of a love story that did take place… once on a moon!

My wishes and intention are with every listener, for this musical journey to serve you well so that you might also feel and listen to the deeper sides of yourself and bring them to light.

After 20 years of dreaming, I finally decided to take my yoga teacher training, and I did it with my partner Naomi Jason, and one of my favorite teachers, Shiva Rea.  

We trained for 3 weeks at Blue Spirit in Nosara, Costa Rica.

I've been making music for Shiva for almost 20 years, and this was by far the most intimate and rewarding journey of collaboration. 

Enjoy the vibes!  You can hear Shiva teaching in the background, so this is for practice, probably not best for use in class.  I hope to translate these into studio releases this spring :)

One of the things that I love about playing for Asheville Movement Collective's Sunday Dance is the invitation to set an intention or theme to one's dj set. I drew inspiration from the first I'Ching hexagram.

The creative power of dance is available to us now. Let any frantic activity of the mind dissolve into the dance with open receptivity. 

Explore dance, movement, breath, stillness and wonder. Explore your “yes.” Explore your “no.” Explore your light. Explore your shadow. Open your heart. All is forgiven with love and compassion.

Let us gather again, on this sacred dance floor. 

What this mix has to offer is a journey, a time and space to move and be moved. To let old patterns that no longer serve you to pass over and on, with ease and grace. To make more room for the expansion of your gifts and dreams. 

To balance your wild spirit and woke mind.

Derek Beres is a multi-faceted author, speaker, and podcaster based in Portland, Oregon. He has served in senior editorial positions at a number of tech companies and has years of experience in health, science, and music writing. He regularly speaks on science and media literacy. Derek is the co-host of the Conspirituality podcast.

Alongside David ‘Duke Mushroom’ Schommer, Derek is one-half of EarthRise SoundSystem, which has released three albums and four EPs. Derek has produced records for Six Degrees Records and Vieux Farka Toure. He toured internationally with GlobeSonic and was a regular guest at the legendary Turntables on the Hudson parties and resident DJ of Kollektiv with Karsh Kale. He has performed alongside Jamiroquai, Ojos De Brujo, Sidestepper, Brazilian Girls, Yerba Buena, Antibalas, Cheb i Sabbah, and more. He served as music supervisor for the breakthrough documentary, DMT: The Spirit Molecule, and is the co-host of the podcast, Conspirituality.
