With its first release of the new year, Life and Death is proud to introduce the newest members of its formidable and tight knit family, Woo York. Hailing from the Ukraine, this hard working duo has been successfully making the transition from local heroes to major international players through their crafting of strong, emotive techno accompanied by a live show notable for its improvisational streak, allowing the guys to stay true to the spirit of the songs while still adapting them to whatever setting they find themselves presented with.
!For their debut appearance on Life and Death, they show an impressive range as they move from one mood to the next while always retaining their cohesive sound. From the beautiful opening salvo of The Valley Of Songs to the forward march of Odyssey to the unrelenting battle cry of Black Soul and then back to the triumphant finale of Distance, Woo York cover all the bases here, taking the listener on a trip that feels complete from start to finish.
!It’s an impressive beginning for their debut on Life and Death and we can surely expect much more from this forward thinking pair in the years to come..

A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration.

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint.

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

As the dust finally begins to settle after the release of Pan-Pot's massive album 'The Other', it's time to unleash a collection of heavy hitting reworks from the best and brightest stars of todays techno elite. Through careful consideration and an acute attention to detail, we couldn't be more elated to confirm ten artists we know and love to contribute their unique vision to Second State's first ever remix package.

Kicking things off with a heavily twisted alteration of 'Attention' is Nicole Moudaber and it's a tangled, dark trek through dense acoustic layers of audible madness. Next up is the Hamburg duo

Extrawelt with their twist on 'Optimistic Grey' and they deliver a beautiful blend of emotion and groove they are synonymous for.

Following suit is another passionately romantic number from man of the hour, Stephan Bodzin, and his take feels like floating through a sea of clouds, resulting in a timeless classic to be a focal point in any set for years to come.

Next in line is Ray Kajioka's take on '808 Nirvana' and it's a cosmic ride, ripe with swirling atmospherics laid over big churning drums and rolling cymbals.

Following up on the second 12“ of this LP is a man who needs no introduction: Carl Cox. And in true Coxy fashion he turns 'Riot' into just that: a big room, tension building monster!

Broken Engine' is the next track to get worked over and Wigbert delivers a stunning mix of shimmering tones and growling bass resulting in a lush venture through a cosmic backdrop of flickering stars in deep space.

Joseph Capriati ensues with his vision of 'Fugitives' and he brilliantly keeps the vibe of the original yet adds his trademark big room flair to take it to another level of driving euphoria.

Enlisting the talents of Alan Fitzpatrick to remix one of the slower listening tracks on the album turned out to be magic. With his signature percussion, Fitzpatrick takes the parts and creates a dive deep into sultry smooth waters of seduction.

The first of our last two remixes, which are digital exclusives, come from Paul Ritch and he delivers a grinding rendition of 'Riot', expertly crafted for the more euphoric peak time occasions.

Last and certainly not least is a man on the rise, Kevin Knapp with his twist on his own collaboration with Pan-Pot: 'Get In'. An expertly crafted tech house jam exploding with energy and attitude perfect for any moment, day or night, indoors or out.

No matter the time or place, there is something here for everyone and we are truly fulfilled and honored to present this package of cutting edge artists to celebrate this landmark moment. We know you will enjoy!

<p>It&#8217;s time for Sasha Carassi&#8217;s &#8220;Echoes&#8221; from a few months ago to receive remix treatment, and Skober&#8217;s interpretation is up first and focuses on the melodic elements of the Original but cleverly adds moody synths which add to the overall epicness of the affair, especially in the grandiose breakdown. Layton Giordani is up next with his trademarked shadowy sound and impeccable arrangement, offering yet another angle of attack. Last but not least are Loco &amp; Jam dubbing things out with bursts of references to the original in key moments, while maintaining a rocksteady vibe sprinkled with discordant stabs.</p>

Partial PR: The 47th release on microcastle welcomes Third Son to the label for his debut EP. As one of electronic music's most creative talents Joseph Thomas Price aka Third Son has carved out a unique sound all his own. The UK artist has shaped his sonic palette with a variety of influence's and compositional studies which began at a young age. The underground has fallen in love with Joseph's contemporary vision, which resonates through his tough beats, rugged grooves, modern melodies and heavy percussion. It's a sound that's led him to releases on Einmusika, Noir, Sincopat, Selador, Stil Vor Talent and Suara. Now making his long awaited microcastle debut Third Son presents his much anticipated 'Climb to the Sun' EP alongside remixes from Darlyn Vlys. 

The release begins with its title and showcase piece 'Climb to the Sun' which also features Haptic. The Australian vocalist and UK artist have collaborated on several occasions in the past. The studio synergy between the two is quite strong and 'Climb to the Sun' would have to be considered their most sought after creation to date. Anchored by a tough, triplet style groove the piece builds a dark, mystical presence early. It proves to be the perfect foundation for Haptic's vocals which fill the air with warm, nostalgic and utterly charming motifs. A cavernous break continues the dramatic yet deeply emotional storyboard before a wave of metallic melodies lifts the piece to an exhilarating conclusion. There's a compelling story locked inside this one, which has already resonated with Guy J and Guy Mantzur who featured the track on their recent b2b tour and beyond. In the words of Third Son "Climb to the Sun began as an instrumental, originally created as a closing track. The final section was powerful enough to work in a club, but I felt there was something missing to take it to the next level. Haptic’s inspired vocal work solved this."
