Next Expresso stop is on the tropical shores of  @desert-island-disco , a Selector/Producer collective based out of London and Barcelona, with a thirst for unearthing groove-laden digs from across the world. Though Disco in a name, their sound covers a broad church that moves between and beyond the likes of African Bubblegum, Brazilian Soca, European Synthpop, and UK Street Soul. 


In addition to producing original tracks and dancefloor-friendly edits, DID host the “Islander Cast” guest mix series, which brings together artists from across the globe to share the rare, exotic and undiscovered side of their record collections. Drawing from this mantra, the guys deliver us a zesty cocktail of trans-continental heat to usher in the warm shoots of spring…

The Other Radio is part of The Other creative studio and music institute from Cape Town founded by Aaron and Johan. I got chatting to Johan at their record shop, "The Other Records' and he kindly invited me to their studio. Perched upon a rooftop of a high-rise in the heart of the city with views of Table Mountain. Despite the fact they've only been operating since last September, The Other is definitely a music & cultural gem of the city. If you're in town, be sure to get in touch with them.

Dancing Dolphins 027 | Desert Island Disco

Lusophonica is one of the coolest studio's we've been to! Situated right underneath the Santa Marta Lighthouse in Cascais, about 40mins train from Lisboa. From the decks you get a view through the bustling coffeeshop, out the patio doors and between the castle like wall into the beautiful Atlantic ocean. Well worth a visit if you're ever in Lisbon! 

Having just moved to the city, there's no better way to orientate than exploring the local records shops. The majority of these two hours is comprised of records picked up across town, (notably Amor Records and BomBomBom). After 4 months between cities felt good to spin some wax again!

Desert Island Disco (@desert-island-disco) are a DJ collective born out of parties thrown at the late Lakota - Bristol, UK. United by their shared love of disco and its wonderful permutations, their musical pallet has matured over the last 10 years to include flavours across many eras and geographies. They play anything from Boogie, to Afro, Synth-pop, Zouk, italo, and everything in between.

"This mix hopes to sweep you up with flamboyant 80s-flavoured cuts, dubby disco numbers, and some smooth street soul. Littered with a couple of newly discovered Italo tracks and a few House thumpers to add that cosmic edge and energy.
