Desert Dwellers consists of Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe; together they are one of the most pioneering and prolific downtempo artists hailing from the United States, having released over a dozen full length albums, several DD remixed albums, as well as countless singles, EPs and remixes for labels like Black Swan, Twisted, Six Degrees, Iboga and their own label Desert Trax, to name a few. I got on my bike today and made a spontaneous mix honoring of Albert Hofmann's  magnificent moment in history, 80 years ago.
This global psychedelicatessen of elevating, knotty, percolating, pulsing and squidgy bassliness is woven with a smorgasbord of flavor. Low-end basscapades, traditional horn lines and global soundplay all meet up with  the skank and stutter of dub reggae vibes for a mesmerizing entanglement with psychedelic sound design. What an unforgettable night at the Mishawaka celebrating 25 years of us making music together! 🌟 This venue holds a special place in our hearts—there’s nothing like playing outdoors, next to the river, under the stars. We were blessed with beautiful souls and fans who came out to make this anniversary show truly magical. Huge gratitude to Bloomurian and the folktronica duo Siren & Seer for opening the night with such mesmerizing vibes. We were thrilled to dive deep into an extended 2-hour set for everyone! Here’s to more memories and music together. 🎶✨

So, here's my set from the Chillout Gardens at #Boomfestival 2016. So exciting to play there for the first time, a beautiful and crazy experience..!  This was a 12:00 - 14:00 set in the crazy sunshine (shaded..) for some context.. :) Also, in the interests of openness, this is a backup of my set, as I couldn't record the actual set, due to technical issues (and even had to rely on this backup at times). Still, it all come out OK and we shared a magical 2 hours....!! I hope you can find some of that magic here... X

Desert Dwellers is a pioneering electronic music project that bridges the ancient and the future, fusing deep bass, world instrumentation, and psychedelic textures into immersive sonic journeys. Founded in 1999 by Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, the project grew out of the legendary Moontribe gatherings in the deserts of Southern California and Santa Fe, New Mexicos desert rave scene. 

Blending influences from many genres, Desert Dwellers has released dozens of albums and remixes, toured across five continents, and collaborated with an eclectic array of artists from around the world. Their music has graced stages at Symbiosis, Ozora, Lightning in a Bottle, Boom, Envision, Shambhala, and Burning Man, resonating with audiences through both meditative journeys and powerful dancefloor experiences.

In 2026, Desert Dwellers will enter its most significant evolution yet. Co-founder Amani Friend will be stepping away from touring to focus on studio production and other creative pursuits, while a new collaborator joined the project, acclaimed producer and mixing/mastering engineer Sarkis Mikael. While continuing to honor the project’s signature sound and ethos “Music Beyond Borders,” Desert Dwellers is now expanding into bold new sonic territories. Sarkis, with releases on respected labels like Sol Selectas, Saisons, and Hoomidaas, brings a fresh creative spark and deep musical integrity.
