"Soul Oasis" Double EP Mix Journey

It was an delight to throw down at the first of many (fingers crossed) Nectar Festival on their Friday Night. 

Here were have the next in my "Stick to Your Guns' series. It has been a while since I posted, but I found this set to fit the STYG perfectly. 

STYG is all about roots for me. Its how it started and its how it will continue on. So where are my roots as AppleCat? What aspects have stayed with me despite interchanging styles? What gives me that unique tingle when I hear it?

Multi cultural sounds, deep fairytale bass, erotic undertones, Classical/Cinematic beauty, rebellion, nostalgia, - and of course that motherfucking cosmic carnal dubstep. My intention is to create and share a mystical and primal underworld  journey through dance - then, to have us all come out the other side moved in some way. Myself Included. As such every so often, I craft a "Stick to your Guns" to remind myself -and anchor me- where I know my creative alignments are strongest.

Introducing Ouroboros: An Ecstatic Bass Journey

Ecstatic Dance is both a practice and a community that has had a profound impact on my life; these dances are containers where music becomes medicine, movement becomes prayer, and strangers become family.

After attending my first Ecstatic Dance in Venice Beach back in 2020, I knew I had discovered something special. Since then, it’s been a dream of mine to DJ at Ecstatic Dance events around the world and contribute to these powerful, intentional spaces.

There’s nothing quite like the energy of a dance floor where everyone is fully present, open-hearted, and moving with purpose. As a DJ, producer & artist, I’m honoured to shape that experience by telling a story through sound and guiding a collective journey.

Ouroboros is an ecstatic dance style mix that is the result of years of experimentation, growth, and devotion to the craft. A 90-minute sonic offering of bass, medicine, & alchemy.

At Kalani, the birthplace of the modern ecstatic dance movement that has rippled out across the world, we opened with an invocation that was an ode to sound.  I offered live vocals & layered textures. Adele brought soul-stirring violin melodies. Creative Frequencies enveloped the space with crystal bowls & gongs.  From this live, improvised blessing, the journey opened into an ecstatic wave before returning to stillness in a spacious closing sound healing by Creative Frequencies, handpan by Laura & subtle vocal tones by Kirt.

There is nothing quite like playing on a Sunday Morning for a dance church experience with my dance fam at Asheville Movement Collective. Especially when it is at the beautiful Warren Wilson College Pavilion!

Thank you for all the dedicated dancers who came and got down, and to all you digital listeners out there!

This set was inspired first by a poem I wrote (will share below!), and evolved into being guided by sacred sounds from around the world. It is my hopes it takes you to that sacred space within, where love is found <3

Each day a bit more held
A bit more solid
A bit more subtle
A little brighter & lighter
Each day, returning 
Surrender feels safer, softer now

From the sunshine soaked hills of Newbury Park, California where this release was carefully crafted comes a label favourite, Aso. After making some stunning contributions to our Essentials series over the past years, as well as the highly acclaimed eight track 'Two / Seven' EP, he is back with another beautiful addition to the Chillhop Catalogue. 

With the kind of relaxing, melancholic vibe you would hope to expect, 'Home' is a Fender Rhodes driven ride complimented by beautiful guitar melodies and laid back percussion. On stage, the electric arsenal at your back makes you feel invincible. In the studio, machines fashion the armor that protects your most fragile creations, intricately woven layers of reverb and delays.
