Juanito State & Monsieur Philippe connect for their debut on Obscura - the Frutos Brutos EP. The Colombian connection bears fruit yet again, providing a rich, mass-moving, and distinct sound that has caught the ears of global dancers. Powerful synthetic sounds enter the fold, as analog tones meet punchy drum patterns across this 6-track project, showcasing a club-driven sound from the compatriots.

The project’s two singles - Indie Town & Biche - lead the line on Frutos Brutos, providing twisted recognizable vocal chops on top of soaring synth work. Chonta Dura welcomes percussive latin rhythms over crisp broken beats, while Her In Hell is built upon minimal tones built for the afterhours sessions.I Mix Your Love feels like an instant classic, as gritty analog-drenched hooks ebb & flow on top of timeless vocal work. Closing the show in memorable fashion, Pineal Scratch pummels the soul, diving into the dark crevices of dancefloor appeal.

Frutos Brutos releases on all digital platforms April 29th, with presale available April 20th.

The Gens Ep starts with the title track, a deep and intense wobbly affair, with its sleazy bass and gritty vibe merging in to a mystical and playful tinkly toned driver. the breakdown comes in to its own as its trippy yet euphoric vibes meet, culminating in a mind melting cauldron of goodness.

Missed Signals is next, and its a brooding peak time mysterious and dark edged melodious affair, that packs a real punch. Intense and dramatic, this workout drives along before dropping to the emotional and vocal laced breakdown, bringing a haunting vibe before slamming back with a wonkiness!

Rounding things off nicely with 'Integrity', this sophisticated dance floor electronica, is a spacious yet piercing melodic soundscape. Big and bold.

Next up for Desert Hearts Black comes a transatlantic meeting of minds in the form of ‘Fade’ by heavy hitters John Monkman & Rinzen. 

As two artists with solo careers already in high gear, John and Rinzen have been in each other's orbits for a number of years via remixes and mutual collaborators. This marks their first track together - and what a debut it is! 

John is signed to a number of great imprints including Kompakt, Ellum and Last Night On Earth, and with a Beatport #1 and the endorsement of the scene’s elite behind him, he debuted his new live show at none other than Coachella Festival in 2018 wowing the critics in the process. 

Rinzen is a product of the burgeoning LA dance scene. Breaking out in 2017, he’s quickly established himself with releases on labels like Bedrock, Oddity and Factory93. Widely described as having an otherworldly sound, his unique soundtrack has delighted fans around the world at shows as diverse as Printworks (London), Stereo (Montreal) and beyond. 

Aimed squarely at the peak time, ‘Fade’ launches into life from the first beat. Techy percussion and synth washes marry with the killer drums for instant impact. Melodies up the ante - creating a sense of dancefloor euphoria from the first drop. Growing throughout the track, the tension is finally lifted with rich vocals delivered by Monkman, leading to an emphatic finale. An anthemic journey that will delight clubland all through 2023.

John Monkman, Rinzen - Fade

Desert Hearts Black label boss Marbs returns to the imprint with his latest release ‘Trip & Roll’, a driving and deep new cut paired with stellar remixes by Detroit legend DJ Minx and fellow West Coast producer SHADED. The 3-track EP arrives just in time to serve up heavy baselines on festival dancefloors this year. 

As a Founder of the Desert Hearts brand known for its flagship annual festival for over 10 years running, world-renowned parties, and two record labels, Marbs has proven to be a longstanding pillar of the American dance music scene. His productions weave intricate percussive patterns with hypnotizing and emotional psychedelia.

‘Trip & Roll’ is wonky and weird in the best ways. Aimed at the heads-down-and-groove late floors, it breathes its own off-kilter charm from the very first bar. Sparse percussion and clever drum placement open the track before pads energize into the break. A film-like vocal completes the trip and sends you into an otherworldly state. 

Dj Minx’s remix showcases her unique style with a stripped-back dubby angle, layering the original track’s motifs with her techno-focused touch. Finally, celebrated techno artist SHADED adds his signature feel on the EP - a more melodic flavour that will suit that pre-peak moment before the dancefloor loses its mind.

Marbs - Trip & Roll (SHADED Remix)

Ardalan joins Desert Hearts Black with three acid-tinged dancefloor destroyers, assisted by the very talented Kill Frenzy. 

Born in Tehran, Iran, Ardalan Noghre-Kar possesses a unique and fresh perspective on music. His mixes, remixes, and dubs are known for their sass, energy and wickedly wry samples, but his original tracks are where his efforts shine. Signed to Dirtybird, and Pets Recordings to name a few, Ardalan has been a staple in this industry for quite some time.

“In such a fast-paced, ever-evolving world, I wanted to highlight how important it is to drown out the noise sometimes and return to humanity.” Ardalan says, “This EP dives into the realm of a fictional dystopian and apocalyptic world that could very well become our reality if we don't take action.”

First up, ‘Ruby & The Fish’ opens his account with wavy robotic percussions and a huge low end. The EBM inspired warehouse drums and wild builds transform the light and dark sections equally with energy and transcendental dread. Next, fellow Dirtybird Kill Frenzy collaborates on ‘Paravision’ a moody acid raver full of dark intent for those late hour heads down stompathons we all love. Icy sonics and spiky percussions juxtapose the squelchy acid with aplomb. Finally, ‘The Maniac’ rounds out the EP. Written to express the struggles ‘to be human in a society that is overtaken by AI and technology’, the dark warehouse drums and acid nuance is subtly transcended by warm pads and heartening vocals. Like a Vengelis soundtrack for modern times, it’s utterly spell-binding. 

I was really inspired by the sound and music of movie scores from the 80s. Especially Vengelis from Blade Runner. Using a modern gear like the Deckard’s Dream (Inspired by the Yamaha CS80 synthesizer), I was really able to add cinamatic sequences and melody’s to give it a bit of soul and emotion; human.” - Ardalan
