SoHaSo continues their summer sampler series with part 3. Again, the Utrecht based record label brings you some forgotten beauties from the past. Mostly from the Lowlands this time.

Perfect Virtue by British trio Shi Take is one of those gems. Tribal house rhythms from 30 years ago, with a bassline that makes you want to wiggle all the way to the center of the dance floor.

SoHaSo label head honcho Nuno had been playing a demo of Tools for Fools by Dutch producer Sluwe Vos for years, when he found out the energetic rhythm track never got a proper release. Well, now it has.

Flip over for some more forgotten Dutch house history. Jibaros is a project from dance veteran Eric Cycle. It has all the elements that made house music from the lowlands so good in those days: percussive beats, a decent baseline and good melodies sprinkled on top. It's a layercake of sweet stuff that just keeps on building. Very pricey on Discogs nowadays, but luckily Cycle still had the original DAT-tape lying around.

Nozem is a bit of the odd one out. It's actually a project by a young dude from the south of Holland but it sounds like he stepped into a time machine which warped him back to the 90s. The vocals (in ancient Greek!) are from Sister of Iris.

Closure track Tinkling Sensation by Delta (Alex Dijksterhuis) is more than 25 years old. With it's fast-paced rhythms this piano driven tune could well be something post-progressive from Scandinavia. But this is the real deal. Uplifting rave music from the days people were still carrying fluor sticks.

This is a recording of the set I played in that basement in October. Had such a good time playing between DouDou MD and Willow. That timeslot gave me the opportunity to really dig deep into my collection and showcase a broader range of sounds than the festival shows I played that summer. Hope you enjoy it!

Dance music powerhouse Deeptrax follows up recent dispatches from Joey Anderson and Caim, with a label debut from fellow Dutch techno stalwart Robert Vosmeijer AKA De Sluwe Vos, who offers a 5-track collection that explores the depths of both music and sound.

Crafted during the pandemic, Vosmeijer, who had been experimenting with ambient music and sound design, found himself longing for the dancefloor and its ability to disconnect you from reality whilst reconnecting you with friends. As such he began digging into his record collection, absorbing sounds and reenergising his creative output.

"These tracks were born 'really' automatically after I regained the urge to make music for the club again." 

The Patron Records boss' new Terraforming EP opens with 'Reeeese', a heavyweight ode to the legendary bass sound that underpins the track with its thick layer of treacly warmth. Solar Prince turns our focus on percussion, with its xylophone melody dancing between vaporised synths and string-laced stabs, to create a soothing and yet urgent soundtrack.

On the flip, title track Terraforming, with its wonderful analogue crackles and hisses, lets the pulsing sub steal the show again as pressurised hats snappily punch holes in the atmosphere. Jupiter's Universe exudes a roughly cut techno 2step, layered with pulsing cosmic synths and bubbling melody.

Finally the EP is rounded off by Crawford. Another track that perfectly rides the intersection of music production and sound design. It's cosmic keys and scything synths work almost at odds with the tribal roll of his drums, yet come together to create a mature and unique production.

Patron Records boss and Dutch house innovator De Sluwe Vos invites you 
to experience all the visceral thrills of his unique and fully analog live show 
on new full length, ‘Live at Lowlands’.

Over the last two years, De Sluwe Vos has been working relentlessly on creating
 a new, fully analog live show which finds him playing brand new material. Having 
performed at Lowlands multiple times over the years, he built a strong connection
 with the mastodon of Dutch festivals. As such, the last time he played, the Dutch
 prodigy brought half his studio of synths and drum machines to the stage and
proceed to lay down 60 minutes of raw house and techno that brought the 
infamous Bravo cathedral to an intense finale.
 

This album comes after 2015’s three part Kontra long player on his own label, as 
well as rugged EPs on the likes of DGTL Records, Unknown to the Unknown and
 4Lux and sets everywhere from Glastonbury to Fuse, Awakenings to Ministry of
 Sound. He is a creator of authentic, floor jacking sounds with real energy, and
 that shows in this brilliantly expressive new album.
 

‘Live at Lowlands’ takes in 14 tracks and interludes with live versions of his key
tracks as well as some improvised pieces along the way. A dystopian ambient 
synth track opens things up before rubbery basslines and Chicago jack take hold. 
The first improv is a blistering percussive workout, then it’s on to soulful and 
surging techno like ‘Sophisticated Topless Raver’ and edgy, electro tinged 
bangers like ‘Light of the (After) Party’. The excellent ‘Shadow Machine’ is a 
broken beat trip to the cosmos, ‘Snelle Trens Pokoe’ is Detroit techno class and
 things end on a future retro bit of sci-fi electro-tech that leaves you wanting more. 


This is a thrilling record that takes you on a real rollercoaster ride and marks 
another high point for De Sluwe Vos.
