"Fireside Tales" is a tavern theme. I've used instruments from the Renaissance age to try to give this piece an authentic atmosphere. This is not a "rowdy" tavern theme. For this, I imagined sitting at a large wooden table with a cup of ale in hand as travelers from afar shared their stories of distant lands and the creatures that inhabit them.

This doesn't have a whole lot going on in it as far as background rhythms. For this track, I was aiming for something that felt dreamlike (hence the nightmare in the title), so I padded it with some deep soundscape elements that are there just to add depth and a little motion to make us feel as though we're drifting away. 

I wanted this piece to be all about the music box and vocal work. I wanted it to make us feel like we were stuck in a nightmare, floating away in some unknown reality and there wasn't a thing we could do about it.

Dark Chimes and Vocals "Predator or Prey?" Royalty Free Horror Theme

I call this piece "The Promise Land" because there is a deep journey in here. It tells of traveling, hardships, sacrifice and discovery. But the underlying theme is hope for the future. Not just literally, but also metaphorically, I hope everyone's "journey" is filled with hope and they are able to find their own Promise Land.

With "Beautiful Torment", I envisioned a man trapped. Not by anything physical. Trapped by his own darkness. He is unable to completely cope with his reality, so he stays locked away from the world, a prisoner to his inner demons and twisted mind. Living this way, his torment becomes like a companion to him. The thing that drives him mad, the very thing he hates becomes a comfort, for without it, he'd be more lost than he is. This piece has to do with the complexity of the human mind and how sometimes we crave the things that torment us.

I don't know that the duduk is a "traditional" Elven instrument, but the way this piece turned out was quite peaceful and nostalgic to me. It calls of a paradise and time lost over many, many generations. That is something the fantasy race of elves has been as a personal metaphor to me. And it just felt like it could be playing in an ancient forest village somewhere. So that's my "elven music" defense and I'm sticking to it!
