Joe Koshin makes his debut on Buried Records with his new EP ‘Inside’. Originally from Yorkshire, Joe Koshin’s introduction to dance music was forged in the North-east’s lively dance scene. This is where the sounds of Dubstep and Drum & Bass first piqued his interest in Electronic music. Currently based in London, he has developed his style in the renowned dance culture of the capital. As his style developed, flavours of Breakbeat, Electro and Garage began to feature more prominently in his musical output. Rinse FM, Balamii, Planetaria Soundsystem, Childsplay and 199 have all supported Koshin’s recent releases.

With all three tracks from the album being made during the pandemic, eerie tones can be heard throughout the EP reflecting the struggles we have all faced recently. Joe said ‘I got myself into a pretty deep creative rut, and my output was at a real low'. With this lack of motivation, he struggled to make time for music and even considered throwing in the towel.

‘Inside’ was the first track that shifted his musical outlook and brought back the creative spark missing over those difficult months. The opening track brings together floaty vocals, raw Breakbeat and unapologetic bass that injects energy into the EP from the get-go. ‘There’s Nothing’ pays homage to the Brazilian music Joe discovered during the lockdown. Clever sampling fuses this cultural influence with his fierce sound seamlessly and is the hidden gem within this release. The final track ‘Storm Dub’ was initially crafted to a minimal old school 2-step sound but with time evolved into what Joe describes as a ‘Garage-meets-Ghetto’ hybrid.

After temporarily adjusting to life indoors, ‘Inside’ offers a glimpse to the light at the end of the tunnel, when club doors reopen and movement can be seen on dance floors once more.

MIX004 is full blown, balls to the wall modern deep and moody dubstep at its very finest. 50/50 his tunes and dubs from the best of the new breed 140 producers. Absolutely essential listening. Jeremy Howard, aka Sinistarr (@sinistarr), is truly one of the most interesting and exciting names to hit the underground dance music world this past decade. He has become known as an innovative and consistent producer and a skilled and adventurous DJ, and his sound is an authentic extension of his soul and the pure talent that Jeremy possesses, deftly exploring the soul of yesteryear with a modern context.

Sinistarr's mix is a heavy retrospect of the "Autonomic" sound, a style of Drum & Bass that took over the scene inside and out over a decade ago. Helmed by DBridge & Instra:mental , this sound connected the dots between golden-era Drum & Bass, R&B, 80s and 90s soundscapes, Detroit Techno and Electro - an era which led to strength to strength vinyl releases and a heavily-lauded mix series.
