Rush Hour announces their second artist compilation Patchwork, curated by one of the label’s most loved family members, Sassy J. The Swiss DJ is the very embodiment of passion and long-standing dedication to the craft of the DJing, but also to the community surrounding the music that she lives and breathes. For the past fourteen years Sassy J has run the Patchwork night in her native Bern and in London, with guests ranging from Theo Parrish and Little Dragon to Floating Points and MF Doom invited to share their respective musical visions. Her collaborative approach stands out in a DJ world that is too often weighted in favour of promoting the individual. This compilation grows out that unique sensitivity, foregrounding a theory of curation that centres on long-term bonds, articulated through Sassy J’s personal relationships with the contributing artists.

Patchwork speaks to the grass roots values that Sassy J espouses, showcasing music by many of the artists that have joined her throughout the years in clubs, on the radio, and at home. It is an expression of Sassy J’s individual musical path that casts its gaze firmly in the future: Patchwork is made up almost entirely of new and unreleased songs that are exclusive to this collection. Patchwork captures a sound that has continued to evolve in its restless search for new musical directions. Across thirteen tracks we find forward thinking electronic music rubbing elbows with cosmic jazz and deep percussion workouts from Brazil and beyond.

There are irresistible calls to the dancefloor: 2000 Black’s UK boogie and the syncopated rhythms of WaH-chU-kU nod to the West London sound, whilst the early rave of Nu Era and Aardvarck’s sub-rattling techno channel the grittier edges of the club experience. We find machine music imbued with humanity in Larry Heard’s deep house classic “Survivor” and in Ron Trent’s WARM project, whose gentle breeze points to a different side of the legendary producer. Patchwork also opens a more immersive listening space in which the radical indie soul of Georgia Anne Muldrow, the ambient spiritual jazz of bandleader Carlos Niño & Friends, and the lament for the Amazon rainforest by Azymuth’s drummer Ivan Conti can channel the overall spirit of group interplay and solidarity. Patchwork also includes Sassy J’s collaboration with veteran producer Alex Attias, marking her own place in a universe that is held together by her singular thread.

Patchwork is compiled by Sassy J and features ten exclusive tracks. It will be released on 2xLP, CD and digital formats on december 9th, on Rush Hour Records.

An unreleased remix I did from 2018 of Waajeed's "Power In Numbers" track that was off his very dope "From The Dirt" LP. 

I asked the homie Will "Reelsoul" Rodriquez to lay some nice jazzy keys and bass over my drums which had the skeleton and backbone of Waajeed's original track underneath. 

I wanted to share this unheard track and offer as a free download as originally intended.

Basel's Alma Negra return to their eponymous label for the first time since summer 2019's Alma Negra Remixed EP, with a dancefloor-focused collection of three brand new club-ready productions.

The driving and Tsavo opens the EP with dynamic layered percussion and a classic house hook. Title track Manta is a journey into deeper waters, floating and drifting into late hours selections, while the closer Sega Dub find the native Sega rhythm of Mauritius meets modular dub techno.

We love putting together bits and pieces from all over the world and give new and established artists a plattform. „Enjoy our cuppa“ Vol. 2 is a delicious blend for sure - two new artists, two Quintessentials buddies, four great tracks! Starting off with our man from Helsinki, Saine, and his „love music“ - the title says it all! A track that can be played anywhere anytime. Moving on to another good old friend, Andy Ash. Andy has been around for many years, releasing on labels like Delusions of Grandeur and Stilove4music. „Bread“ has a rough yet smooth bleepy edge and a nice old school flair. The flipside presents two new faces, Jank and Decent Rides. Japanese artist Jank is like one of these hidden gems! He alredy released on City Fly, Boogie Cafe and Mysterious Works and we are delighted to present that suuuuuuper deeeeep track „All be free“! quintessentials 72: andy ash - bread

We’re excited to present a recording of Joe Boy's opening set at regional NYE event Meningie Mirage III - a party held across New Years in the open fields of the Coorong.

The two-day mirage included DJ’s, live bands, workshops and many beaming faces from both South Australia and afar. The doof sought to celebrate not only the entry into a new year, but also the voices, stories, talents and ideas people brought to the table. The year 2020 proved especially difficult for participating in community and art-orientated spaces, and even just losing yourself in a dance. Under the guise of local and interstate musical offerings - burrowing out across the hot blue skies of the South Australian rural landscape - the mirage provided a necessary avail.

Aaron Paar has been a prominent figure in the Los Angeles DJ, underground club, and recording scene since the early '90s. He remains at the cutting edge of diverse music cultures within the Soul spectrum. In 1995, he established his label, Worldship Music, and the following year, he formed the Teflon Dons with Dave Fogg and Greg "Ski" Royal, producing seven 12" singles along with various remixes and tracks for other labels.  Since the relaunch of Worldship Music in 2019 Aaron has released another 10 releases on the imprint. 
Throughout the years, Paar has held numerous residencies in LA, including Bounce Rock Skate, Fast Fwd, Blazing 45's, JumpNFunk, Black Gold, HOUSE ON WAX, and Free Yourself. His presence at countless clubs and bars has solidified his status in the LA DJ community, allowing him to share his unique musical perspective with a new generation of partygoers.
In recent years, Aaron has toured across the U.S., performing at venues like Dante’s Hi-Fi in Miami, Smartbar in Chicago for QUEEN!, the Charivari festival, and Motor City Wine in Detroit. He’s also played at various spots in Brooklyn, NY, including Public Records, Black Flamingo, C'mon Everybody, and the Bowery for Mobile Mondays in the Lower East Side.
He hosts the prominent Stomping Grounds Radio on LA's Dublab Radio, airing every 2nd and 4th Monday from 8 to 10 PM.
