Description: I wasn't able to rock live in studio for this broadcast but did find time to put together an all vinyl deep jazzy underground mix of NYC/NJ East Coast flavored House from mostly the mid 90s era. All that dark dubby jazz tinged stuff I loved from this era and this was only scratching the surface.

Who is Kai Alcé?

There is a certain type of artist that transcends generational and artistic boundaries, that channels their experiences while simultaneously fostering an environment for others to thrive. Kai Alcé is a prime example. Born in New York, some of his earliest musical influences included his mother’s penchant for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of Jazz would be further guided by his father’s expanding audiophile home system. Moving to Detroit in 1980, the start of the decade where Techno would take formation, put him at the center of music history as the Belleville Three and their contemporaries molded house into the new sound, while simultaneously working at the now famed nightclub “The Music Institute”

Relocating to Atlanta, GA for school he took it upon himself to bring more of the authentic House and Techno flavor to his new home, playing at numerous clubs and bars in the metro area. Eventually this led to DEEP, his aptly-named, game changing decade long Saturday night residency at local club MJQ, where would bring guests such as King Britt, Steve “Silk” Hurley, Peven Everett, Kerri Chandler, Phil Asher and Joe Claussell.

It is during the 2000s that Kai really sets his stride. 2002 saw the release of his first production, ‘The Kaizer EP’, on Brett Dancer’s seminal deep house label Track Mode. After a few releases on other labels such as Moodymann’s Mahogani Music, Deep Explorer & Real Soon. A few years later he would co-found the Labor Day weekend outdoor event House In The Park with DJ Ramon Rawsoul which now has over 15,000 attendees with many traveling from around the world to partake in the revelries.

2008 would prove to be the defining year of Kai’s decade as it saw the creation of his label NDATL and the first edition of his annual Deep Detroit. NDATL stands for the cities that Kai has called home and have played a role in his musical development: New York, Detroit, ATLanta. Which is home to many of his own productions and A List producers such as Larry Heard, Mr. G, Theo Parrish & Mike Huckaby to name a few.

Never one to stay static he has recently curated the boutique Kai Alcé Eyewear line. “The Kaizer” never stops moving. A love of life, mixed with his flair for originality, willingness to experiment and devotion to the dancefloor has cemented his place as a pillar in American dance music history. Whatever comes next from Mr. Alcé, you can be assured that it will be classy, soulful, fulfilling and funky. Stay tuned because you never know what the man will have for you next!

@rhythmrobot is the alias of Chicago producer Ryan Gilhooley, specializing in the styles of Acid, Techno and Deep House. Making tracks since the early 2000s under the name "Hardware," Ryan took a break between 2009-2015 to focus on his marketing career. For therapeutic reasons, he started producing tracks again in 2015 as rhythmrobot. In 2016, Ante Recordings put out his first label release, "Drum Hop," followed by Owen Ni aka Pan!k, who put out his second EP,  "Chapdr3" on Run on Recordings. Since then, Owen and Ryan have teamed up on a number of projects. Together, they have released music on Ante Recordings, Snail Juice Records, Bang Le Dex, Run on Trax and AcidWorx. 

The highlight of rhythmrobot's music career came when Posthuman played his track "Urges" at I Love Acid in October 2020. In early 2021, rhythmrobot collaborated with Owen Ni on the "Crate Diggin'/Rung" EP. "Rung" was picked up by multiple Spotify editorial playlists which allowed their music to be heard in 138 different countries that year. To date, rhythmrobot's music has been remixed by dyLAB, Owen Ni/Pan!k, Raytek, Master Master, Yokushe, JAK, Distortion Inc., Pat Foosheen and Mark Ryal.

Aaron Paar was born in Nottingham, England and emigrated to Los Angeles in 1980. Aaron has been an active figure in the Los Angeles DJ, underground club and recording scene since the early 90's. With a family music background as well as strong underground club roots in the LA community. Aaron continues to stay at the forefront of cutting edge music cultures across many styles within the Soul spectrum.

 

Aaron fell in Love with Hip Hop and the art of DJ'ing in 1984 and never looked back. He got his start spinning during the early 90′s rave/loft scene in LA while also hosting a House Music show on KXLU Radio called Stomping Grounds. While working at Beat Non Stop records he also was able to sell his personal mix tapes to people around the world via the store. Fueled by the records and sounds of a very potent House Music sound, Aaron decided to take his own adventure into production and created his imprint Worldship Music in 1995 and in 1996 formed the Teflon Dons along with Dave Fogg and Greg "ski" Royal. producing seven 12" Singles along the way with various remixes and tracks for other labels. Early in 2019 the label has been relaunched with 3 new vinyl releases starting with a 7'' reissue of "Tomorrow People" Featuring Gregory Porter, The long awaited "LA Housin' Authority EP" and currently "The Pur Royale Project". 



Around 2002 Aaron decided to come up with an alias which ended up taking a life of its own as DJ Destroyer. The focus was on spinning sets that were based heavily in Hip Hop & Beats mixed with other genres. Aaron joined Mash Up pioneers the Inhumanz and took blending sounds and genres seamlessly in clubs and bars around the globe. 

DJ Aaron Paar was founder and chief resident of Strictly Social, one of LA's longest running and premier eclectic Soul nights. Strictly Social has brought independent artists such as Sa Ra, Lisa Shaw, Sy Smith, Zo!, Joi, and Sango to name a few while taking it to other cities such as NY, Atlanta and SF.

 

Residencies over the years such as Bounce Rock Skate, Fast Fwd, Blazing 45's, LA's JumpNFunk, Black Gold as well as nights at countless clubs and bars across the city has cemented Aaron’s solid footing in the LA DJ community expressing his unique perspective of music to a new generation of party people. Aaron has DJ'd alongside the likes of DJ Scratch, Kenny Dope, Rich Medina, J Rocc, Dam Funk, Lefto and Shinehead to name a few as well as collaborating with many in the Los Angeles underground DJ scene. 



Aaron is also a member of the highly respected DJ collective Umoja Hi-Fi Soundsystem who continue to spread the Sound of Unity throughout the LA landscape hosting and guesting at various functions.

 

Aaron is Co Founder of Ximeno Records along with Danny Holloway who have recently made an impression via their all 45/7inch label.

 

Stomping Grounds has recently been resurrected by Aaron at Dublab.com Radio every 2nd and 4th Mondays from 8-10pm.
