A Little While Longer: a longing for a brief moment in time. A thought back to days past and time spent with loved ones or friends. What we do with the brief moment we have in this life. What we decide is important enough to spend it on.

It’s been more than four years since Lenzman’s last project on The North Quarter. During his absence the label has hardly struggled, continuing to demonstrate its relevance with a roster of diverse and exciting international artists. This has set the stage for his welcome and long awaited return home with ‘A Little While Longer’.

Written over a space of three months, it tackles the emotions and challenges of a total change of rhythm and routine, frustrated confinement and overcoming a void in inspiration. In the end it was once again his close family that inspired his creativity and process.

This body of work was brought together by the use of old recordings and found sound, sampling bespoke piano pieces and through collaboration, as well as forever finding his inner thoughts and feelings as his primary guide. This brief moment in time might feel more like an interlude, but it's an extended one that shows off Lenzman's signature brand of Hip Hop influenced Drum & Bass music.

"'Distances' is my most personal release to date. It was inspired by a time several years ago when my wife had to move to another city for work, and we were separated for the first time in our relationship. The tracks chart the emotions I felt at the initial separation, the feelings of fondness growing in her absence, the apprehension towards the end of her time away and finally the feeling of being reunited." Those are the words Hex has to say about this 4-track EP and throughout this project, it's clear to hear the passion and care that has gone into every piece.

'Distances' kicks off the project, with a melancholy piano hook dancing around a playful bassline, resulting in a fresh, organic slice of liquid. This is followed by 'Absence (Fonder)' which lets guitar hooks played by Hex himself take centre stage amongst a two-step beat and a bouncy bassline. 'Apprehension' is up next, in which a hypnotising piano hook carries the track forward for a piece which conveys how less can often be more. The EP is rounded up by 'Her Touch', an autonomic, atmospheric piece which brings together the sound palettes throughout the EP and wraps it up to make a beautifully cohesive body of work.

"I've tried hard to put something of myself into these compositions and make them sound unique in small ways. Some of the sounds across the EP have been recorded personally, including guitar, spoken word, foley sound and thumb piano, and most of the remaining melodies have been played rather than sampled. I'm proud of these pieces of music and I hope they speak to listeners in the same way they speak to me." - Hex.
