A long-standing figure within Paris and Berlin’s nightlife scenes, Talman Records boss Okain continues to impress as a DJ, producer and label head at the heart of Europe’s house landscape. Whether releasing material via labels such as Infuse, Pleasure Zone, Eastenderz or Constant Sound, or on home turf alongside the likes of Silverlinings, DJOKO, Leo Pol and Per Hammar, the Frenchman’s blend of tough house merging old and new runs deep throughout his DJ sets and productions. Kicking off 2022 in style, mid-January welcomes a label debut on LOCUS as he drops four crisp efforts across his ‘Daddy’s Groove’ EP. Opening cut ‘Mightnight Feed’ welcomes a slinking track guided by aquatic synths, sweeping electronics and bumping bass, while ‘Tavie One Tooth’ hones in on rich M1 stabs to showcase a bubbling and resonant house affair. On the B-side, ‘Brother Jack’ journeys down a lighter path, combining airy pads with jazzy interludes and subtle yet squelching low-ends, before rounding things out via the slick, classy tones of closing production ‘Green Mousse’.

PREMIERE: Ryan Resso, Stef Davidse - Airplane Mode

Dutch imprint Housenation extend their catalogue this Autumn with the second outing on the label. Following suit of 001, the second serving will be a VA including local heroes and flourishing family talents Django, Izak Jules, Luuk Ploeg and the Da Graca Brothers. “Amsterdam Groove” comes in hot as the versatile four tracker addresses explosive dance floor action from start to finish, touching on various strains of the house spectrum. 

First up is Django, firing up the release with “Turn My Shit Up”. The track is constructed upon glitchy drum patterns and a killer elastic groove as the track continues to evolve, steering your set into fifth gear. Izak Jules sets the tone with “Comeback”, crisp drums breathing life into the wobbling body of the track. Ready to ignite the flight of the after party is Luuk Ploeg’s “That Sh*t”, an irresistible winding bass line cruises throughout, as trippy vocal stabs flash in and out. Closing the EP with pure class and emotion are Da Graca Brothers, a touch of dance floor romance for the small hours of the night with their deep encounter “Uups”.

Going full steam ahead into what is set to be another bright year is flourishing Dutch talent, Julian Anthony. His infectious energy as a DJ and producer is spreading like wildfire so it is no surprise that he finds himself sharing his first ever full EP to kick off 2024 on acclaimed Berlin label, X-Kalay. Four enormous cuts spread across the vinyl EP as Anthony teases his animated sound, moving between progressive house textures, with tinges of electro. This is “Full Moon Fever”. 

First up is the title track. A chugging low end encounter with a twisted spring in its step, laced with dreamy pads and synths before being launched back into the action. “Open Minded” is led by glitchy garage house drums, but crammed with depth and emotion, teased by the ethereal textures and shimmering elements. 

On the B side is “Stormy Tuesday”, again you are met with crisp and punchy drum patterns conversing in harmony with a killer elastic bassline. Accelerating the dance floor to new heights, with tripped out vocal samples flashing in and out. Not letting up at all is the final track on the EP “Virtual Reality”, spaced out funk oozing a serious vibe from the get go, cruising to outer space in fifth gear thanks to some dynamite drums. 

Heavyweight sounds from an artist who continues on fine form, perky dance floor action with a specific transcending attitude. Stepping up to the mark with his debut full EP.
