A fragment of a fallen star -
ages old, yet without scars.
She shines like a diamond in the night
piercing the dark with a silver light.

Now the sterling celestial seed
blooms like a flower amid the reeds
to bring such beauty and such grace
to an ancient deserted place.

Celestial Tear

1 in 5 tells a story, and it doesn’t seem like much until you start scaling it up:
20 out of a hundred…
200 out of a thousand…
1.46 Billion out of the 7.3 Billion people living today…

They’re a minority, it’s true.
4 out of every 5 don’t doubt or despair,
don’t travel to the darkest of places,
where they don’t see a way out.

But some days
people win the lottery -
the one that no one wants to win -
and they get to be 1 in 5.

Some days I’m lucky,
and I get to be 1 in 5 too.
Some days I’m luckier,
and I get to be one of the 4 in 5.

Today I’m not the 1,
but today is the one
when I need to point out the 1
so that 4 out of 5 people

A little litany,
an eager epiphany,
a false road
that the people strode
toward ignominy.

The easy way out

My light will never fade away –
it will stand for centuries:
strong, secure, and sentinel.

My heart will never burn out –
the fire in that furnace is fierce
in the face of confrontation.

My body will never remain broken –
for all the knaves that knocked me down,
who thought they knew me on my knees,
could not see the knight in me
who will never give up.

Trine

The striking of a single note
has my memory reading rote
the story of the love we lost,
and the lesson of what it cost
to keep myself afloat.

Our song

My blood is boiling –
a sanguine song inside me
sits hungry on the horizon,
ready for the moment of release.

The pressure rises to a painful peak,
and the emotions erupt
as the storm screams in
to break upon my bed.

Oh, what rough radiance,
what fulfilling famine…
Oh sweet, merciful darkness –
where have you been my whole life?

Eventually exhausted,
we collapse in sweet surrender
to the mood, the moment, and the magic
of another’s eager arms.

The quiet sight
of a moonless night
leaves the world still
and feeling the thrill
of a vision in starlight.

Stellar

The falling snow
let’s me know
very clearly
that winter has merely
begun the show.

Holiday pageant

Christmas,
what a wonder:
we gather up our joys
to stand against the impending
darkness.

Crusades

The night is hungry,
devouring candles like candy,
and trying to snuff out the light
like the last drag on a cigarette.

People huddle up tight,
with layer upon layer of protection
against the cold left in the wake
of their dearly departed sun.

But just when things seem at their worst,
a curiosity occurs –
the shadows, sated at last,
make way for lengthening days.

And beyond the departing darkness
waits a world blooming in the light.

Solstice

Excitement ended,
the children are content
to play with their prizes,
and leave their parents in peace.

The glitz and glamour
will soon be set aside
as the rigors of the real world
demand due attention.

So savor the memories –
these times between times,
this stillness between breaths –
as long as your are able.

Fantasia

Dawn breaks
on the far side of despair,
and dreams can live long past
our pregnant bedside vigils.

Tomorrow is not a gift,
but neither is it a curse.
It is a blank sheet of paper
on which to write our story.

Our future is charted
by the characters we include,
the quests we embrace,
and what we chose to abandon.

The ink ever-flows in our hearts,
and the world waits eagerly for our decisions.
