Full Moon Festival Red Planet Silent Disco - Deux Yeux

DJ'ing is fun but it can be hard work. I may remember some of my best sets, but i'll never forget the ones where i had to struggle to win people over. Some of those real moments can be tough for beginner DJ's, when you get that "nobody's dancing" or that "can you play something more like this". Those moments shape you as a performer! 

The truth is nobody gives you harsh feedback when you practice in your bedroom. You can only learn so much before you have to learn to fly and fail on your own in the real world. Sometimes we have those sets where every song is a make it or break it moment just to keep people around on the dance floor. I'm grateful for the exposure to these environments to grow as a person and develop a certain musical awareness to succeed in challenging situations (even outside of music). 

This mix is dedicated to all the DJ's who perform in front of difficult crowds that can change drastically from week to week. I was given the chance to fail in front of many audiences, and i'm a better person because of it. Thank you to those who put their faith in me to play good music!

Music can cling to us like memories or reoccurring dreams, sometimes the sounds that calmed and nourished our souls at one point can possess an entirely different potential as the context of your life grows and develops. Music that makes us feel good always stands out in our mind as we delve into older tracks from previous years that may have fallen into the background. 

Personally, revisiting these melodies over time helps me gauge my own growth as well as the swaying of my interests and influences over the years. Nostalgia is the driving force of this new series of music, blending sounds of the familiar favorite with the intriguing unknown.

Louis IV & Deux Yeux - All The Homies @ Gem & Jam: Opal Stage

Damn this mix caught me off guard! A friend shared this with me recently, this is the first DJ mix I recorded spinning house music only. Before this, my life was consumed by harder styles of music, happy hardcore, drum n bass, hardcore and trance. This time capsule of a live mix brings me right back to dancing with my friends at places my parents definitely wouldn't have approved of. Early Deadmau5 was the catalyst for me jumping into the world of house music, which is very obviously represented here.

Such vivid memories fading into the background now, but everything in life has it's time and purpose. I thank everyone who brought me into this crazy world of electronic dance music taught me to leave my insecurities at the door and just let loose and have fun.

Live From Arizona - Fantastic Voyage

Inspired by the sounds of Funk, Soul, Disco, House and Hip Hop, I am a student of the evolution of sample based music.

I've had the opportunity to play direct support for AZ based crews such as June Jam, Walter, Record Bar Radio, BFF, Relentless Beats, IDGAFNK, Synesthesia  and open up for great talent like DJ Craze, Chromeo, Louis Futon, Blockhead, Doc Martin, Mija, Lazy Syrup Orchestra, Liquid Stranger, Anna Lunoe, Touch Sensitive, Funk Hunters, Russ Liquid, Late Night Radio, R3LL, Phutureprimitive, Cazztek, Option4, Astronomar, Dash Berlin, and Kill Paris.

I grew up in a house where my dad’s band would practice a couple of times a week. They played covers of Santana and Collective Soul at full volume while waited for my chance to mess around with his drum kit or the Yamaha keyboard to play around with the “DJ” sound effects. In high school, I learned to play bass, but around my 16th birthday, I got exposed to my first underground dance party. I remember lining up outside of The Icehouse in Downtown Phoenix under the yellow streetlights and praying my parents had bought my excuse for sneaking away that night. Once inside, I was blown away by the vibrancy and diversity of the music and people celebrating. I immediately gravitated to a stage with local hardcore DJ’s Starr & Sixxx as they hyped the party into a frenzy, and at that moment, I wanted to learn to DJ so I could share positive experiences like that with people.

I built a following as a rave DJ in the valley while still in high school, which eventually lead to throwing events with some of my closest friends. A few of which attracted thousands of young kids like us looking for a new place to dance in the predominately rap music dominated years of 2008. After 6 years of gigs, the “rave” culture started to wear me thin and I started to reassess my personal goals with music. At the time, I was working at Whole Foods, that’s when I met 3 friends that would change the trajectory of my life for good. We joked about being the “Whole Foods DJ’s” and decided we needed to throw shows together.

Eventually, the crew grew into an organic music sharing platform known as “Brunch Collect” We invite all types of upcoming producers and musicians to share their art online and in real venues. When the community we built began rapidly growing beyond state lines, I knew we were onto something good. Out of all my accomplishments as a solo DJ, I have never been happier with the direction of my life than I am right now. Nothing beats the feeling of helping others develop and growing as a team, instead of us focusing on our own success separately.
