We premiere Casual Mantras, by Bordeaux-based duo Simple Exposition, the core of the hyperactive tplt collective. Part of the upcoming compilation Foule Contact vol.01 by Parisian Pompelope crew, the track is a sinuous shamanist chant of oriental nuances. The album is out on April 16th.

Premiere: Simple Exposition — Casual Mantras (Ohmmix)

NVST means nothing but trouble with the  Stop Violence Motivate Violence EP. Not asking for permission nor for forgiveness, the Swiss artist continues with her unapologetic electronica, uniting gritty textures, coarse breaks and implacable statements in a dog-eat-dog world.  Anticipating a beat that has no rival in a fist-fight, Breakos Blancos moves slowly, murky like a dark tide claiming back its piece of land. 

The EP is the last addition in the Serious Trouble label, run by Benedikt Frey and Menqui. A grainy 3-track release, including a caustic remix by Frey, that brings the political back to the center of the dancefloor and the conversation.

All the hope, the inner struggle, the repose, the sorrow - all of it is contained in the capricious disposition of the sky. It speaks to us in abstract terms each of us decipher in a personal way. This last year, more than any other, has been one of longing for better times, of staring out of the window, finding solace in the slow movement of the clouds. 

Apart from a sonic storyteller of extraordinary sensitivity, André Pahl is a usual visitor of the firmament. He took yet another stroll in the wild blue and now tells us all about it in a wide kaleidoscope of human emotions. 

This mix is a compelling testimony of those states we share with the skies: the longing melancholy of a sunrise, the embracing warmth of the twilight, the peaceful serenity of the rain, the indecipherable gloom of the fog. Lay back, look up and dive in, but be aware: feelings may arise.

Antoine and Charles, integrants of the duo, are a quintessential part of the French underground electronic music scene. Whether it is behind the forward-looking Positive Education festival or the colorful Worst Records label, they are continuously fostering the dynamism and growth of their local scene. Supportive of up-and-coming acts and ever-educating, they are pillars of a compelling movement and a specific sound harboured in the streets of Saint-Etienne.

Rick Shiver is a source of perpetual movement. If you blink, he's already gone onto his next enterprise. Shaking the sonic sphere from its underground, he rides regularly the soundwaves in Kiosk and Lyl radio, drops some hidden gems in the YouTube realm and, first and foremost, runs the NOSE JOB brilliant mix series and equally shining label. 

With his contribution to our series, he opted for a dynamic and energising approach, in contrast with other of his mixes. Because there's been enough gloom already. Let the sun in so it can bring out all of the colours hiding in the autumn.

Deviant 036 — Rick Shiver

Malcolm's all fun and breaks. Both as a DJ and as the head of the LSD-infused Global Warming Records he brings heaps of color to the game, with heavy hints of both the UK sound and the French contemporary savoir-faire. The mix he has delivered is rich in nuances and textures, evolving from soundscapes of delicate baselines into dangerous breaky territories. On repeat.

We cannot be more excited to have him over for our next event on Saturday. Big, big!

A heartbeat franctic like a drum.  An amalgam of frequencies that fill up the chest. Built-up emotion dissolved in a solemn feeling of peace. NVST joins the upcoming compilation Dancefloor Memories with a very sensitive take on her breaky, caustic sound. 

The album is the second release on the Swiss label Proxima Records. It came together in the absence of dancefloors, filling up all the empty spaces our bodies couldn't share anymore. The release is out on December 14th, with history repeating itself. But we will dance again.

We premiere NMA07 by Czech duo Ethno Service. The track slithers back and forth, building up into a not-so-far dystopia of eerie hints. Bringing up the fun in a futuristic nightmare.

NMA07 is part of the Long Term Evolution, a compilation album that inaugurates LTE, the latest label to come out of Prague's fertile creative ground. The collection features six artists from different parts of the world: DALO, Ethno Service, LDY OSC, Mayo, MO-DU and MR TC.

Premiere: Ethno Service — NMA 04 (Oblaka Remix)

The world moves so fast we can't help but forget. Once the media coverage looks the other way, any tragedy ends up dissipating within the foggy memories of all the other tragedies that paraded our screens.

Violence, hunger and misery is still a very real thing in Ukraine at the moment. In an attempt to give visibility to the issues children are undergoing due to the conflict and to raise funds to tackle them, Global Warming's Malcolm partnered with Yssue to compile a 22 track album producers, designers and studios from the modern Russian electronic, post punk and experimental scenes. 

They partnered with War Child, an initiative that works intensively in Ukraine and at the borders with Moldova and Romania. All the funds raised will be invested in:

- Supporting refugees in accommodation centers
- Providing life-saving emergency support and vital protection to vulnerable refugee children.
- Working with anti-trafficking organizations to prevent refugees from falling into the hands of traffickers.
- Contribute to cash assistance to meet the basic needs of families fleeing the conflict
- Ensure safeguarding of highly vulnerable children such as those with disabilities.
- and much more.

Slaloming between stations since early 2022, @tra_verse is an Amsterdam–based radio series and a music platform led by @lolobatten. Now expanding into a label, traverse presents its debut compilation: traversée.

We are thrilled to premiere one of the VA's tracks by @phobhorecords’ honcho @matteocoffetti, a deconstructed digi–jumble landscape full of bubbling basslines, dizzy polymeters and twisted vocal chops.

The first release from Markham Road comes in the form of a VA spined by frequent collaborators of its sister platform Infame Radio (@infameradio).

The nine tracks vary along a scale of percussive rhythms both relating to established and experimental ideas. As a trial in itself, this project took shape through exponential conversations between all those creatively involved.

"After releasing my album this year, I’ve been exploring experimental sounds using modular and vocals. When Dani approached me to be a part of this release alongside other incredible artists, I was eager to contribute an energetic club track. I’ve had the bassline and vocal idea in my mind for some time now and I set out to bring it to life using my arsenal of grooveboxes, modular synths, analog effects and a mixer. It took me few sessions to fine-tune the balances and dynamics, as I was determined to create a track that could be pitched, allowing people to choose their desired tempo." — Warzou

Errortica’s sets feel like the touch of silk. They’re a skillful and smooth navigation, a dive into an eclectic but delicate selection of vintage gems with a contemporary, sensual and dynamic treatment, never leaving behind the beat. Guitar solos. Acidic twirls. Electro reminiscences. Break with prior conceptions.

Errortica’s relationship with music is a deep, longstanding one - and it shows. Collecting music since an early age, her love for it kept growing and stemming in all directions. Based in Saint-Petersburg, she combines DJing around Russia and Europe with working on her first live show and a few upcoming releases. On the side, she’s also hosting the Melomantica radioshow, in which she explores alongside her favorite artists the intricate connection with the sonic fields.

NVST has a streetwise savoir-faire that infiltrates her sets, infusing them with the energy of a dark dancefloor of sweaty walls. She’s a DJ that doesn’t fear to put the crowd in ‘uncomfortable’ positions, defying what they think they know. Her style thrives on the clash of genres and textures, that come altogether as a raw, acidic unity that demands a frenetic dance ritual.

Coming from the Swiss illegal party scene, the values that move NVST approach to DJing remains distant to conventionalities and commercial approaches. In 2017 she joined the non-hierarchic, non-profit women-only collective Statement to become part of the Female:Pressure network a year later. Her world was turned upside down after meeting fellow artist Warzou, who would become a source of inspiration to dive into a more alternative sound and to discover different mediums, as the radio, with his Transistor show on the underground LYL radio. When he launched the label and show Big Science, NVST would join him, co-running the label and sharing the LYL residency. After a fruitful period in Berlin, where she started producing alongside Callmesnoop DJ - with upcoming releases to keep an eye on -, she’s now back in Switzerland ready to shake its core, and recently collaborating with the alternative club  le Zoo / Usine.

Deviant 013 — NVST

2019 has been good to us. We want to slowly say goodbye with something special.

Sonic wizards Mr TC and Lo Kindre have prepared a slow-burning, mystical exploration of the fringes of music by the means of a compelling selection. After collaborating for a long time and with a joint release in Heap’s Neubau, this year their last common project, the label Phase Group Records, saw the light with their murky analog EP, that’s now a must in every bag of records.

They are back to their sorcery once again. Give in to their black magic.

Deviant 016 — MR TC & Lo Kindre

Bats communicate with their environment mostly by using their biological sonar, by emitting high-pitched sounds through their mouth or nose. Low Bat is not exempt of such a natural rule, for his communication with the outer world is also eminently sonic. Words are substituted by a mosaic of sounds that can speak about human emotions with nothing but a few words. 

Oyster-lover, sports shorts model, Low Bat is one of a kind, and of the kind that gives it all for all he does. He runs the Night Travel On A Blanket radio show in LYL, a sensitive series of musical narrations by the hand of diverse artists. One third of the unparalleled Jean-Luc project, his eye - and an ear - for talent is something that has marked his work co-curating the programme of Arkaoda Berlin. It is a trademark too of his soon to-be-released compilation in Ear Clip Series, the Endlich Normale Menschen Vol.1, that gathers a wide range of musical moods and voices from all around.

Deviant 024 — Low Bat

The dancefloor got cold these last months and while we wait for normality to make a full return we dwell on memories to keep going. Our last pre-Corona party, a sweaty February night in Ankali, seems distant, but we have gone back in time with this fragment of the recording of the amazing mix Mark Knekelhuis gifted us with. 

We witnessed Mark's unparalleled energy at the decks for the first time in a forest in Lithuania, and his visit to Prague immediately became a must-happen. Head honcho of the homonym Knekelhuis, his approach to mixing is the same as his label's sonic architecture: he oscillates between opposite musical poles revealing them as complementary. By combining roughness with sensibility, he opens a window to an understanding of music that doesn't discriminate, reaching a very personal final product that jumps back and forth any tempo and texture. All goes in.

We will be back soon. Have a little taste, sweeten the bitter wait.

A midnight cruise in slow motion with the summer breeze fiddling with your hair. This and many other images are built throughout Beda's mix, rich in colors and textures. Long-time selector based in Leipzig, he gives a specific treatment to each, a curation per units with a no-mixing approach. Only to be consumed with closed eyes.

Gamma Intel is a name that in the last couple of years has garnered a place of its own in the electronic music scene, and for a reason. Hailing from the fertile scene of the city of Rotterdam, his output gives an ironic look into a post-industrial dark future. All smiles with zero naivety. His production, on labels such as brokntoys, Pinkman or Mechatronica, has become a go-to for setting a dancefloor ablaze, in an ever-evolving process of sonic self-discovery.

His mix could be easily titled 2020, for it conceals the strangeness of the current times and a strong willingness to navigate them as they come. Disruptive patterns, uneasy emotions. Breaks pulling and pushing through. Autumn melancholia in what seems 2049. When the dystopian becomes present, hope acquires a fainted cue. But hey, after the pain comes the fun. Gotta keep it up.

Deviant 027 — Gamma Intel

What a mess of a year. Each one of us has strolled through loneliness in a strikingly new way, isolated and immobile. The dancefloors haven’t been this cold in decades. They're now the host of nothing but memories: you can still hear the muffled echoes from the frenzy they use to witness. Still, our raving past is not as far as it feels and our celebratory future is not as distant as it may seem. 

We want to put an end to the year with one of those echoes that we were lucky enough to register: a bit more than a year ago Lena Willikens joined us at Ankali and gave color to one of the last nights of December. The electric feeling of those hours is bound to make this cold time a little warmer, a little easier to handle. 

The winter will pass. We will dance again.

Dancefloor Archives 002 — Lena Willikens

In a globalised world, revisiting our history can be owed to diverse reasons: longing for a better time, looking for answers to our present and future and, importantly, the understanding of our identity. 

Prague-based Punctum Tapes has connected past and present through Liptov, a compilation in which contemporary Czech and Slovak artists reinterpret traditional songs from the geographical area of Liptov. Working upon an oral tradition that was recorded in 1982, the compilation maps the current electronic and club music scene in the area, both established and new talent.

Exhausted Modern’s take on ’Piesne ťažkých chvíľ’, which can translate as ‘Songs for the hard times’, transforms the mournful chant into a hopeful one. The artist has reworked the song’s core by altering its title (S dobrým koncem / With a good ending), but also by inscribing an uplifting call for better moods while we await better times.

Philipp Otterbach's sound is a fluid stream of open endings, of beginnings too shy to take a definitive shape. His remix of Exhausted Modern's 'Pineal Gland' is ethereal and evasive: a nuanced concatenation of thoughts that haven't been thought to the end, of dreams that don't dare revealing themselves.

Philipp's is just one of the remixes in Endless Illusion's last release, a collective reinterpretation of Exhausted Modern's 'Year Of The Rat' that includes NVST, Poperttelli, Ayaz and Annechoic.
