Dirt Revolver returns with a cosmic new collaboration alongside vocalist Lily Flower, delivering an immersive two-track journey that balances raw underground energy with celestial emotion.

The title track “Under the Stars” stretches out across seven minutes of hypnotic rhythm, shimmering synth textures, and Lily’s ethereal vocals — a track built for late-night horizons and endless skies. On the flip side, “Own This Moment” sharpens the focus: a driving, club-ready cut that pulses with urgency and forward momentum, urging listeners to lose themselves in the now.

The Tantrum Desire brand is most associated with the kind of epic  productions that have seen drum and bass become a mainstay of the mainstream. True heads, though, will know that there’s always been an undercurrent of genre-twisting experimentalism present, which came to the fore on last year’s huge album Diversified. So, which corners are explored on this EP?

Nationwide Rocker opens in a dark and techy landscape. Reverberating stabs underpinned by the insistent buzz of low end strikes suggest we’re building into a display of neurofunk technique. And then we’re dropped into something that isn’t quite categorisable. It’s hard, dancefloor music, built from a stripped-back rhythm sequence and a succession of expertly-twisted basses. This is the collision of raw, visceral energy with that trademark Tantrum Desire slick production science.

Then Airhead takes us somewhere different. With a funky techstep call and response pattern, this is an instant dancefloor bubbler. And there’s an eighties electro sensibility woven into the stabs and synth-effects which makes this feel like it could be a 2016 rework of a forgotten crate-dug classic. It’s minimal and focussed but, as you’d expect from Tantrum Desire, it refuses to let the temperature drop, with precision-crafted builds to keep attention gripped on the bass-and-mid interplay right to the finish.

You won’t be prepared for what Think About You has to offer. A bleeps-and-pads hands-in-the-air hardcore intro drops into some triplet-time rave workout material. We’re treated to mid-range grind resolving into luxuriant sweeping tones over a skippy 6/8 time-signature. But ravers and MCs better not get too comfortable, as a “Switch it up” sample signals a slam into 4/4 time. Then the breakdown cools things off ready to go back in with the madness once again.If you didn’t know about Tantrum Desire’s versatility then you should have been paying closer attention. Don’t worry, though, because this EP is a perfect representation of the serpentine rule-bending contained within the sound. It’s all dancefloor music, but beyond that, anything’s possible

Undeniably one of the most exciting new acts to emerge in 2019 was Viper’s newest signing Millbrook. With a consistent slew of singles proving his incredible ability from the get-go, Millbrook has quickly become a favourite amongst DJs and fans alike. “Rituals” earned the formidable talent early support from UKF, while his collaborative “The Rise” with Vorso & Mad Hed City was a BBC Radio 1 favourite for weeks – and that is just the beginning. Millbrook was also invited to contribute to Matrix & Futurebound’s ‘Mystery Machine’ remix compilation, a huge honour and ultimate testament to the rising star’s abilities, with his take on ‘Hindsight’ supported by Liquicity.

Now, entering 2020 in a big way, Millbrook is releasing yet another soon to be iconic single, this time in the form of ‘What Now’. A somewhat erratic opening paints the picture of a bustling market, slowly building in depth and intrigue as Millbrook masterfully layers in new sounds in what is quickly becoming his signature approach to drum & bass. Cinematic and incredibly enthralling, Millbrook takes the time to build an entire immersive world before tearing things up with a heavy yet groovy drop in an unexpected way.

Chaotic yet crisp, Millbrook’s sound design shines through in all his productions; paired with such creative arrangements and ideas, the result is something uniquely stunning each and every time, and this latest release is no exception. Millbrook has already proven he’s one to watch with such a strong 2019, and 2020 will undoubtedly be an even bigger year for the talented producer.

Millbrook - What Now || OUT NOW

Once again proving their industry-leading ability
to scout for exceptional artists at the formative
stages of their careers, prominent Perth label
ProtoCode have welcomed Moscow newcomer
Thir13en to their ranks with the release of the
guttural two-tracker “Jackin’” / “19 By 6”. Listening to the elusive Russian drum and bass producer’s
latest offerings, you’d never expect him to be new to the scene; his crisp mixdowns and bold sound
design make for one of the label’s most exciting drops to date.

From its outset, “Jackin’” lulls the listener into a false sense of security with its warm introductory pads
and plucky, throbbing basslines, its pop-tinged vocal samples implying that the ensuing crescendo will
take the form of a euphoric liquid roller. Instead, the track breaks out in jerking drops punctuated by
gravelly basslines, flitting synth stabs and careening mechanical buzzes, offering a thrilling contrast from
its breezy introductory passages.

Next, the intricate stepper “19 By 6” greets the listener with muted arpeggios and suspenseful synthetic
groans, soon working its way up to an intoxicating climax. Foregrounding the clattering, percussive
basslines and furnishing the track with plinking harmonies and exuberant drumrolls, Thir13en is really
able to flex his expert craftsmanship, packing every second of the song with meticulous synth work and
detailed drum programming to ensure that the track remains unpredictable up until its final moments.
While the name will undoubtedly be new to many, these two tracks should do more than enough to
cement Thir13en’s reputation as one of the drum and bass scene’s brightest new talents. 

Meanwhile, ProtoCode continue to prove themselves as a truly international outfit, breaking new talent from across
the globe all while operating out of Australia’s West Coast. Having recently celebrated their second
anniversary, who’s telling what the third year for this increasingly prolific label will hold…

Thir13en - Jackin'

Continuing to champion talent from all corners of the globe, René LaVice and his Device label welcome Australian and New Zealand’s finest duos Flowidus and Lee Mvtthews for their Device debut Reason.

Raphael and Garo AKA Flowidus have been causing a stir on the scene in recent months, with a slew of hits on Elevate Records including Wrong Boy Chat with Dread MC and Don’t Breathe In alongside TREi and Linguistics. 

Already known for their ultimate collabs, their latest with label head Friction for By My Side amassed over one million streams whilst landing the duo world-wide acclaim. This new single also follows the success of their breakthrough Arrival EP back on Elevate Records, whilst follow up Footsteps made waves globally landing the lads BBC Radio 1 support.

Recently awarded with Best Electronic Artist at the Aotearoa Music Awards, New Zealand natives Graham and Tom AKA Lee Mvtthews are also swiftly rising up the ranks beyond their hometown. Their breakthrough tune Takeover (Ft. Nü) from their debut Bones LP reached no.1 on the NZ Dance Chart whilst amassing over one million plays on Spotify and counting. 

More recently, their first release of 2020 Turning Back was the first single to be released on ShockOne’s new label Dark Machine Records, landing the duo BBC Radio 1 support, international recognition and multiple follow ups including Discipline and Don’t Say It on the imprint.

Two forces to be reckoned with whilst complimenting each other’s styles, Flowidus and Lee Mvtthews grace Device for Reason. Boasting oscillating rumbles, triumphant synth riffs and gritty drums, this double duo team have provided all the right ingredients for a relentless D&B banger.
