Liam Rees - Alap [KR15]

'ATELIER / FERME' is the debut collaboration between buddies Object Agency and Swim Platførm, as the two combine trumpet, guitar, saxophone and an array of analogue synths on a series sleek, heady instrumentals. 

Recorded in Strasbourg, 'ATELIER' sees pin-sharp found sounds woven amongst cavernous clicks, pops and weirdly synthesised voices to form an addictive, technodelic bricolage. Think Domenique Dumont floating in a sensory deprivation tank, or Joe Hisaishi enjoying a fine wine tasting holiday in Alsace. 

'ALTITUDE 1' is a hypnotic live jam recorded at Swim Platførm's home in Brussels, and features Devon Loch on sax. The 'FERME' sessions of side B, recorded live in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines, are all brooding orchestral stabs shot through folds of analogue organ, conjured from a snow-covered cabin. Recommended for fans of To Rococo Rot and Huerco S.

Bristol-based illustrator and musician Adam Higton welcomes you back into the mossy realm of the Cosmic Neighbourhood. With each song acting as a response to a series of paper-and-scissors compositions, 'Collages II' documents the daily goings-on of an imagined world. 

Sonically, this record straddles new and old, taking modular electronics, flutes, bells and softly pattering drum machines, before colouring them all with the amber glow of some forgotten, psychedelic kids' TV programme. Higton's benign toots and echoing jingles bring to mind Daphne Oram's early delay experiments or the meandering playfulness of Tom Cameron. Radiophonic and time-worn, it still somehow sounds like the future.

Cosmic Neighbourhood - Elf House [KR21]

French photographer, musician and lifeguard Roméo Poirier (formerly known as Swim Platførm) appears for his debut album, Plage Arrière, a deep sea meditation on a constellation of Greek beaches across three islands. Trumpets, echo-clicks and Harold Budd-esque shimmer piano whirl together on these seductive scapes, which recall the sub-aqeaous ambitions of Jürgen Müller or Sebastian Palomar. 

'Atsipades' is a keepsake from the song's namesake beach, on western Crete. Roméo writes, 'on the back of a boat, leaving an island. We can see a pool, but that is empty and covered by a net. People looking into distance. A man walks across the platform, hand moving towards his mouth. Maybe he is drinking a café frappé. During his time on the island he was drinking it every day. Now, on the journey back home, that café frappé represents a souvenir of the beach. In it there is water (sea), coffee (sand) and ice cubes (rocks).' 

Plage Arrière will be out soon on Kit, in the form of a limited tape, with risograph printed artwork by Roméo.

Tidal 4 is our contribution to the new collaboration between Kit Records and the bilingual (Swedish / English) fanzine and publisher of handmade books of art and writing, Timglaset.

'Errata' brings together Kit family with friends and artists we greatly admire, celebrating sound and image made in error - from bungled interviews to accidental recordings and forgotten doodles. Errata will be released on a limited edition cassette, and accompanies edition #7 of the mighty Timglaset, a 44-page full colour zine containing art by Lina Nordenström and Robin Tomens, writing by Malcolm Green, poetry by John M Bennett and Anthony Etherin, and much more.

The tape also includes work by Michael Björn, Helena Celle, Dolly Dolly, Time Attendant, Disasterpeace, Domenique Dumont, Jib Kidder, Mary Lattimore, Jake Messina Meginsky and Amanda Feery.

Devonanon - Tidal 4

HESITATION is the culmination of a slow-burning penpal friendship between Reckno founder Chris Catlin (aka Yaaard), and Kit Records honcho Richard Greenan (sometimes Devon Loch). Meeting in London in 2016, the pair recorded a woozy slab of improvs, using a battered organ, guitars, a saxophone and whatever else came to hand. These takes were then stitched together into a seven track LP over the following two years.

Veering from shoegaze to crystal clear electronics and fuzzed out jazz, the results pull two ways: slow and fast, meditative and exuberant. Here is a place where time bends and bubbles, drunk synthetic choirs follow an endless skywards pulse, and plaited melodies hover in warm air like motes of dust.

Recommended if you like the heart-on-sleeve whistle alongs of Tenniscoats, Zappa's foggier guitar serpents or the creeping black magic of early Sebadoh. HESITATION is a joint release between Kit Records, Reckno and videogamemusic. 12" vinyl out on June 22.

Premiere: Electric Capablanca - Capablanca Spin [Kit Records/SWIMS]

Named lovingly after the venerable boozer from Only Fools and Horses, The Nag's Head is the sonic moniker of Brighton artist Stephen Maskell. Combining on the fly recordings, kitchen sink instrumentation and addictively constructed beats, Maskell's music is - as one customer puts it - at times moving, at time hilarious and sometimes just great dance music.

Following a trilogy of tapes, ENTROPY NOODLE is Maskell's first LP proper, and signals a maturation of sound - bending, twisting and manipulating synthesis to explore every microtonal corridor of the sonic spectrum.
