The famous 'Vox Humana' sound recreated (or an attempt anyways) on the Prophet-12. Since the Prophet 12 has enough LFOs and oscillators, there's enough to meet the requirements for Vox Humana.

Testing out my Vox Humana (or rather, 'Vox Prophana') patch on the Prophet 12 in more somewhat of a song. Sounds pretty good and I also have the bass chords with manipulating the Prophet 12's curtis analog filters (it has a lot of stepping because I had to use CC values instead of NRPN because it didn't function properly! So much for modern technology).

Here is a demonstration of the JUNO-60's resonance as produced by the IR3109 filter chip. Because it's done through analog the sound is quite complex and software emulations aren't able to capture the same harmonics. And the end is a bonus JUNO string pad I created as a custom patch that utilizes complex filtering from the JUNO and PWM. I've not heard anyone else design a patch quite like that but it's one of my favourites.

These are sounds typically not possible on digital recreations like the JU-06/JU-06A (and are probably not showcased for those reasons).

Here is a long demo with hand picked segments to demonstrate sounds that the Cherry Audio Mercury-4 VST cannot emulate. In particular: the IR3109 resonance, the ENSEMBLE chorus, inability to tune voices individually, and incorrect envelopes for the attack.

No external effects were applied, this is all 100% pure Roland Jupiter-4.

Resonance harmonics are extremely complex, and in the case of the vintage Roland filters they are famous for both sounding amazing and never being able to be done properly in software -- even by Roland themselves whose Boutique lineup can't get it right.

Jupiter-4 Sounds that are Impossible on Mercury-4 VST

Not at all musical, or even nice. Just random noodling to experiment with the Jupiter-4's ability to produce FM synthesis as its LFO is actually an "HFO" and modulates the Jupiter's oscillators as if they were carriers.

Unlike Yamaha's FM synthesis, doing FM synthesis this way is extremely unstable and practically impossible to tune. This is why Yamaha actually uses "phase modulation" so that everything stays in tune but achieves the exact same results as frequency modulation. Some people will argue that it's not 'true FM synthesis' but they're frankly just wrong and you can tell just by listening to Yamaha FM synthesizers that yes, it's FM synthesis :)

This is a remix on the original 1962 IBM 704 recording done of daisy bell and other phrases. Accompanied by the actual piano backing.

One caveat to note that it was fairly get the tuning correct against the old record recordings.
