Meet Bomchello, a DJ hailing from Nicaragua who is now lighting up the music scene in Hamburg. His distinctive style effortlessly merges 90s acid house with deep grooves and minimal, creating a rich tapestry of percussion and minimalist sounds. Originally starting his musical exploration as a dancer with a passion for salsa and freestyle rap battles, Bomchello's journey led him to Germany. There, he embraced vinyl mixing, which enabled him to construct sets that span various eras of house music.

Bomchello is an integral part of the "Groove Kitchen" crew, an initiative dedicated to showcasing a wide range of house music in Hamburg and fostering environments that celebrate the art of vinyl mixing. As a member of the Incognito Collective, he supports migrant talents within the minimal music scene. Bomchello is also involved with the Intertronika network, which focuses on amplifying the voices of FLINTA* and BIPOC artists. Additionally, he is the driving force behind the "Spacement" party series, further cementing his role in enriching Hamburg's music landscape.

This edition of our Select series comes courtesy of Beirut-based DJ, producer and percussionist Julian Naman, aka JOOL. Inspired by his parents’ extensive music collection, he started producing tracks at the early age of 14, merging various sounds, from jazz, hip-hop and ambient, to progressive rock, techno and house. He has performed alongside a slew of prominent international artists, including Dasha Rush, Ion Ludwig and Answer Code Request, traversing prestigious dancefloors at B018, Ballroom Blitz, Paris’ Sputnik and Athens’ The Place.

Speaking of his Select set, JOOL says, “This set was born out of the challenging times we face in the region, where stress and uncertainty feel overwhelming. It’s a reflection of that journey - an offering of love, a message of unity through sound.”

Next up, welcome Emi Lee 👋  Born in Milan in 1987, raised eating music (first suggested by relatives and parents then searched tirelessly alone), he's a passionate record collector, co-founder of Taste Rec. (2019) @tasterecmilano and resident DJ of Bitte (a new artistic project).

The selection & mixing activity these days meets the music production and publishing side of things, with the aim of creating an eclectic catalog in the electronics panorama, "suspended between experimentation and contamination". The constant search for groove, love of synthetic sounds, sampling and hypnotic repetition derived from tribal patterns are central elements in his sessions from house, indie-dance, techno to italo and disco, as well as attention to compositional quality. His mission? 

"To support the independent scene, the underground movement, the dance counter-culture."

The mix in his words:
"When the music has a strong emphasis on the downbeat, it grooves." James Brown helped define groove. Technically the groove is made of a small musical cell that repeats indefinitely. But the groove is also a feeling, a sound that takes you away, getting you lost into dance. You have it inside or not, if yes you are a part of emotional people in the world who enjoy that. Something to die for."
