Around the time we made "Torn" and had Mtwn remix t for us, we offered to do a remix of their Critical Level. It was the first time either of us had sat down to write a full on D&B stepper, it was quite fun, and again a really good example of how I (/we) treat remixes. Utilising as much of the original content, but putting a total rework into action, and using trademark sounds and techniques. This was given away as a free download, enjoy!

I started this a long while ago one night, I wrote in a basic drum groove and the infamous sample before the drop. I'd given the project to another artist as a collaboration, but sat around for 12 months, and at around that same time, we (Mauoq and I) were working with Kolectiv quite a lot, so we gave it to them to jump on, and within a few weeks it was full bodied and part of the EP project.

Mauoq gave me a rough project called 'Time Patrol' which I really liked, it took me months and months to get around to it, but when I sat down, I added a few hits to model the groove and added a hook to the bass-line. We then sat down and arranged the track and added the finishing touches. Craig & Sam @ Nurtured really liked it and wanted it for their label compilation, which we were very happy to be a part of.

KONGKAST #238 – Feat. DEXTA  (Diffrent Music, UK)

'Mukky Riddim' is my interpretation of Grime music, but in a tempo that is more native to me and my DJ sets. The track is fairly straight forward, with an unusual rhythm running throughout making way for the distorted Moog stabs and bassline.

This is my first ever independent (solo) release, and it's been a pleasure working with Silent Dust & None60, I've got a few more bits lined up with the label too, so keep your eyes peeled, and as always, expect the unexpected!

'Tempest Dub' is the lead track from my debut single on None60 Records, a grime and dub influenced track that I built up from a beatbox recording from my phone, which you can hear in the intro and in places throughout the song. It has a slow offbeat 4x4 beat which literally keeps the body moving along with the 64 bar live recorded bassline.

Third Life [Diffrent Music]

Chris Royle aka Dexta is a London based DJ/Producer who has been slowly contributing to the D&B scene since 2010. He is one of the co-founders of the giraffe mad record label imprint ‘Diffrent Music’ and has been fronting and developing the label ever since. 

Dexta has taken the Diffrent Music sound on the road since 2010 and tends to play an unexpected selection of music at every event. Bringing through new and unheard of artists, friends and collaborators and even influential music from outside of the D&B circuit.

Dexta has been a releasing artist since 2013 and since has released music on Protect Audio, Diffrent Music, Flexout Audio & Dispatch Recordings, with other work signed to and forthcoming on Clyon Recordings, Nurtured Beatz and his own imprint Diffrent Music.

Much like the Diffrent Music label ‘sound’, Dexta has a wide range of musical influences and this shines through when you listen over his output and the Diffrent Music back catalogue, it’s very hard to pin down a specific kind of style, it’s more about exploring and experimenting with new and different areas every time.

You can look forward to hearing and the possibility of releases of ‘communal’ and ‘general’ collaborations with artists such as Arkaik, Crypticz, Fearful, Lakeway, Mauoq, Mtwn & Sense MC.
