Max Essa and David Harks The Clean Trip get a pair of remixes that take the originals into new areas of cosmic Balearica. 

Hifi Sean gets to work on Lobster Boys to create a dubbed out mix of space-disco brilliance. Built around chords from the original, Davids vocal hook swirls alongside synths, arps and lots of psychedelic business. Elements of Baldelli are peppered throughout with Seans own signature sound. 

After wowing listeners with releases on one of our favourite labels, Leng, Takovoi lends his talents to Magic Eyes and keeps things on the sunset vibe with a stunning rework. 

Early 90s Ibiza is sprinkled with shades of A Man Called Adam, and Weatherall's St. Etienne legendary remix comes to mind as hazy broken beats sit atop a subtle 303 acid line, whilst the strings and pads do their things for the endorphins.

The DFA DJ edit of “High horse” has been kicking around for a few weeks, but now we can officially say Proper Monday Number are a Brighton, UK-based electronic duo featuring Suzi Horn (alumnus of the Prinzhorn Dance School) and producer Christoph. Their Deep clean your house EP is out June 6. You can pre-order it now via the buy link. It has more drums, wobbly bits, and phrases that belong on the front of t-shirts.

DC Promo Tracks: Cisco Cisco "Why Can't I Be You"

“No Cigar” is a track that didn’t make it onto 2023’s 5 Songs, which was, technically, five songs, so there wasn’t room. It’s a pokey, plonky bit of dance music from Shit Robot (aka Marcus Lambkin), made with Joe Goddard and Al Doyle at their RAE Studios in London.

It sounded… dubby. Like “what if Adrian Sherwood got his hands on this?” dubby. So we asked. And he said yes!

The b-side is classic Sherwood at the controls—a version that’s not fully exploded, but submerged, warped, a little demented. We’re honored and still hearing crazy new sounds every time we play it.

Eric Broucek was the ur-engineer of the most fertile era of DFA Studios, from about 2003 to 2008 (no one knows anything precisely about that time, as it’s all lost in the fog of chaos). His hand was on all of the remixes, LPs, dance 12s. He was there in that over-designed gear dungeon almost every day, recording, mixing, struggling to not roll his eyes at Tim and me. And somewhere in that fog, he quietly dropped limited runs of three 12-inch delayed reaction bombs on his own label Stickydisc Recordings—two under the name Babytalk, and one as Watussi with another DFA regular, Morgan Wiley.

Back in the day, Eric did not want his music released on DFA. He wanted to forge his own identity, which he did, sending out music that wandered from the DFA path with its uniquely wonky, upended and understated power. His music is so unlike everything else of that era, so profoundly singular, that it still sounds completely out of time.

A few years back, I started DJing the tracks again, and saw how the world was still surprised by what Eric had made, and the idea of this compilation was born.

So, in the end, Eric, we totally got to release your records anyway. We heart you, man.

Babytalk - Keep On Move (Original Mix)

Hell Yeah is back to extract another sublime single from Michele Mininni's Pop Archetypes album, with 'Vertigo' up next alongside a remix from label favourite and downtempo king Calm.

Italian leftfield wizard Mininni has released on the likes of R&S, Optimo Trax and Internasjonal, but on his debut album, he mixed up a new palette of broken beats, worldly rhythms, jazz, and live drums into a diverse and multicultural trip.

At the heart of it is the gorgeous 'Vertigo', a heavenly interlude of shimmering wordless vocals, yearning melodies and widescreen design with gentle synth notes bringing the movement. Calm is a label favourite who has remixed and released albums and EPs here many times before. He elevates the track by layering in a languid dub rhythm and synths that swirl around the groove while the choral vocals bring blissful feels.

Once the Pop Archetypes mixes are finished, stay tuned for a special 10” follow-up called Not Archetypes.

Michele Mininni - Vertigo (Calm Remix)

Whilst much of the attention around Kate Stein & Lord Fascinator's Primary EP has focused on the raucous cowboy disco of Horse House and Asteroid's festival ready joyful melodies, it's time for the EP's closer, Le Petit Martien to get its moment in the strobe light courtesy of a new remix from Mehmet Aslan and with its intergalactic western vibe and Morricone'esque guitar twangs Le Petit Martien is a perfect track for the eclectic Swiss-Turkish producer to work with.

Having made his name with imaginative fusions of electronic, ambient, experimental and folk music, all of that is again on display here as Aslan pairs the original's western aesthetics with a disorientating beat and a writhing acidic melody that snakes its way through the song. Hypnotic and disarming effect in equal measure, it's the ideal track to reach for when the club is ready to get a little a little deeper and a lot weirder.

SLIVERS OF YOU remix by Secret Circuit

Portugal's esteemed producer Tiago dropped the beautiful and aspirational Sea Power &amp; Change EP last year, and now the ESP Institute is delighted to deliver its counterpart, the Remixed EP. The Soft Rocks gang takes the eerie Strangefruit for a ride with an 80s dubby approach on side A, speeding it up slightly and throwing in a smack of a snare, only to be followed by a Secret Circuit (Eddie Ruscha of Laughing Light of Plenty) version of Wild Combination that juxtaposes wobbly synths and guitars in a spaghetti-western vibe. All is gravy once the record flips and we sink into the Jonny Nash (of Sombrero Galaxy) remix of Yesterday Is Dead. This is one of those remixes you can't link to the original no matter how hard you try, but why try when what you have is such a melted masterpiece on your hands? Everything Nash touches is gold.


A2 - Wild Combination (Secret Circuit Remix)

Following last years acclaimed Curse of Soft Rocks album, we're invited to revisit said masterpiece from an alternative entry — a robust compilation of remixes. The tracklisting follows its predecessor verbatim, however every track is re-contextualized so wildly that we're left with a beautifully obtuse yet complimentary rendering. The personnel employed vary in style and technique drastically, but such is the ethos of Soft Rocks, and furthermore the ESP Institute. At the end of the day, we implore you to shut up and listen.
