Exclusive: Anthony Teasdale - Entwined Minds (For Andrew Weatherall)

Iconic UK artist Anthony Teasdale is back with his Decades of Deep EP on Euphoric State and delivers, just like the EP title suggest, some deeper facets of House Music with a breathe of Electro. Besides four unreleased tracks Teasdale's EP also contains Deep In NW5, a tune that was originally out in 1996 and considered to be as one of the key records of the UK Deep House scene in a 2021 edit. However, it's the B1, Entwined Minds (For Andrew Weatherall), we want to draw the attention to as this one holds, according to Teasdale,  'a special place for [him]', since he remixed Andrew Weatherall in 1997. The track contains Deep House elements as well as Electro-elements and due its hybrid character and string breakdown comes in as an euphoric dance floor heater . As soon as the 808 drums kick back in Entwined Minds captivates the last dance floor grouch and sprinkles its musical magic in the club.

DFA no doubt owes a very large part of its existence to the incredible, indelible Liquid Liquid, so it is with great and humble honor that we release this 12” from the New York no wave legends, a double a-side package featuring sorta-new versions&nbsp;of classic Liquids tracks.

This torrential take on “Bellhead” was recorded and produced by James Murphy and Tim Goldsworthy in 2004 and originally appeared on DFA”s “Compilation #2.” It’s an all-timer percussion workout, bursting at the seams with marimba, drums, and, yes, all manner of bells, a far cry for the see-saw slouch of the original.

The other side is an unreleased instrumental remix of “Optimo,” which (bear with us here) was rerecorded by the Liquids in 2008 and then remixed by Optimo (Espacio), the Glaswegian duo who are named in tribute to the song in question. If you followed that, then you know. If not, just remember that we’re all showing up here because of how important and essential this band remains.

In the summer of 2024 Sasa & I outlined the idea of creating two albums from the heaping mass of new tracks we produced in the previous year.

We would make an album called “Sliver Jubilee” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of In Flagranti. And then we were to do a follow up album called “NoTown Hit Factory”.

“Silver Jubilee” was to be a commercial album with proper promotion and a toned down approach targeting a broader audience.

“NoTown Hit Factory”; the second album, found us back in full swing creating something profoundly offbeat musically and visually for our fans who expect nothing less from us: just like we always have for these last 25 years.

So enjoy the bumpy ride through filth & loathing filled sounds & imagery that we are profoundly and perhaps for now, perversely proud of.

From the needle drop, the listener is swept away by Moving Still. The Jeddah-born, Dublin-based artist graces Bordello A Parigi with Close to the Shams, four works that summarise his broad range and even broader influences. Pulsating percussion push piano plumes and brass blasts in “Zaman.” A SWANA-inspired scent weaves through the track, with snare rolls adding spice and speed to this heady opener. Tempos drop for “Bang of Luban.” Beats are bolstered, acid squirms lending texture, while the central melody bends and turns from traditional refrains to house reimaginings.

Those traditional undercurrents continue into the B-Side. The title piece is big and bold, kicks split into broken beats while nuanced mizmar notes dip and dive with a swallow-like agility. “Sunday Rollover (Suntop Mix)” calls time on the quartet. A relaxed rhythm gives support and space to low-slung lounge lines, a dreamy and enchanting finish to an EP that illustrates the breadth and depth of Moving Still.
